Horrifying the number of birds that were in this store. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling, Fighting in cages that had too many birds. Deafening and deplorable smell. This place is not what it used to be 15 years ago. We left within 5 min and my kid burst into tears as soon as we were outside. Fairfax Co. Health Dept and Animal Protection were notified.

Lots of variety of birds!!! Everyone is in good shape. I have one cockatiel at home and i know how hard it is to keep everything clean and dust free. Cant believe people here actually complain about the smell. Its a lot of work to take care of more than 50 birds in here.Your doing a great job! Keep up the good work

I decided to give this place another try but was sorely disappointed. Cages everywhere, no place to walk if someone else is in the store. As soon as you walk in your hit with the strong urine smell. I should have walked then. But tried to walk around until I saw a mouse in the middle of one of the rooms. Decided to high tail it out of there and almost stepped on another mouse.

The sales person was helpful, gave me time to look, knowledgeable, and friendly. I will go back for any supplies needed.

TLDR: Rodent infestation and birds DYING then being EATEN by their cage mates. This place is so horrible that I was compelled to report them to the police. The person I spoke with told me this business is well known for the number of complaints they get. The moment you step foot through their door, you are slammed with the overpowering smell of urine. No, the parrots don't pee, the smell is from a rodent infestation. There are mouse droppings EVERYWHERE. Some of the products they sell have even had droppings and have been chewed on. Yes, I can distinguish between bird and rodent nibble marks. There were even holes that had been chewed in the walls. I've never seen anything this disgusting in my life. When I made it to the back, I saw the horrific conditions these poor birds live in. They are crammed into tiny cages that are stacked on top of each other. There was a cage full of young white ringneck parakeets with a dead one at the bottom. It had been dead for a while since it looked stiff and had toes missing from its cage mates CHEWING ON IT. THEY WERE ACTIVELY NIBBLING ON THE DECEASED BIRD. I left in horror without informing any employees since it was apparent that neglect and abuse were the norm. I had to change my clothes because the scent of urine clung to them. Unfortunately, I was too shocked to think of taking any pictures and was only passing through Virginia.

This place is awesome!I took my wife here to pick out a conure. We ended up falling in love with an Umbrella Cockatoo named Buddha. Ed is absolutely fantastic and offered to help out in any way he could. Throughout the process he's been great if I ever have questions. The prices are very fair, esp considering they handle these birds daily and offered follow up nail trimming as well. We will be back!

I visited this store recently after not having been there for 8 years. I was shocked by how much it has changed, and unfortunately, I left feeling concerned for the welfare of the birds there. There were many, many more birds than the space can healthily house, in smaller cages and with minimal enrichment activities (toys). The odor was overwhelming, indicating the crowded conditions and the fact that the hardworking staff can't keep up with all of the necessary cleaning. The staff I encountered were friendly, and I don't doubt that they work hard, but the birds deserve better conditions.I encourage anyone who cares about the welfare of birds not to purchase from this business until things improve. And I'm sorry to have to say that, because it's a business I was so impressed by when I visited it in prior years.

I visited this store recently and was appalled by the conditions that they are keeping birds in. When you walk in the odor of it hits you like a wall, and I could smell it on my fiance's clothes for several hours after having left the store, it was that dirty. There were far too many birds per cage based on the size of the cages, and several of them were clearly fighting each other and unhappy in the conditions. The bigger birds were alone in their cages without much to do, and seemed bored. Many of the birds appeared to be self-plucking, especially the cockatoos.I am sure the employees are nice, but as a bird and animal lover, this was unacceptable to me.

The employees were friendly. however, this place is poorly ventilated, and the parrots are crammed beyond belief. I witnessed two green cheek conures being boarded in a Prevue travel cage (model: 1305 White, 20-Inch by 12-1/2-Inch by 15-1/2-Inch), with the cage stacked on top of other cages in their boarding room. Furthermore, there is no barrier separating the boarding room from the other rooms, which means that people can freely enter and potentially feed or harm your parrot. Even in an emergency, I would not consider leaving my parrots here, not even for a day. I sincerely hope that the owners take note of this feedback and take action to address the ventilation issues, reduce the number of parrots they take in, and implement measures to restrict access to the boarding room.

Horrible smell hits you when you open the door. Small birds crammed into cages that are too small for the number of birds it holds.Cages are dirty, and water all over the floor. Cages are too close together, making the whole store difficult to navigate. Horrible!

Lots of birds but not much else! Cages were dirty and there were a lot of birds to a cage for the smaller birds! Bigger birds did not have much in the way of toys/enrichment in their cages! Not sure when the name changed from American Bird Company to Parrots Parrots Parrots just Parrots, but maybe it was better back than? Older pictures of the store showed books and toys on the shelves but nothing there today! Disappointed that I drove over an hour to get there.

Excellent place, with lovely collection of birds. They take great care of their birds and the birds that board at their store. I always leave my birds with them when I go on vaccation. My bird comes back soo happy after I return. I would definately recommend this place to people who are interested to get a parrot home.

A lot of babies. Old crowded house. Prices are high. I got my Dusky for half of what they are charging in Chantilly. But they do have more variety. Lots of good toys and variety of cages available. Staff knowledgeable

Im so disappointed. My family and I drove 1 hour to get there and Google maps said it was open for 11:00AM and when we got there it was closed we saw people there walking inside the store. And it was 11:00 already and we went to ask when is it going to open and they siad that 12:00. I told them that I needed a cage if they can tell me if they had it and the two people I asked just went in and lock the door keeping us outside while they went to check. It took them 8 mins to see and Call me that they had no cages. This is how stores lose money and Customers and not even one cage available and they pointed where they store the cages and it was a horrible mess in the back there was broken cages and trash. I will not be coming here anymore this is unacceptable.

Very small place but they seem to have a lot of baby birds to sell. The birds are hand fed and their store bird Snowball is super cute. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful.

A great place to visit. I have seen this place for over 30 years, yet it was my first time visiting. The day I went there was a preschool class there. Sheer magic watching those kids relating to the birds. It was clear that the birds had different personalities, some loud and boisterous, others more reserved. The store has an assortment of parrots in many colors as well as other smaller birds. Now it will make it more difficult to choose my next pet. Will it be a bird or a gecko?

I great place if you are looking for exotic birds that you cannot find other places. The store is a bit cramped, and so are the birds cages, but they take their birds out regularly, and take good care of them. They also carry a variety of cages, food, toys, and goods for birds of all sizes, from finch to macaw.

Girlfriend and I stopped by. Magic was one of the sweetest birds and the owner is always willing to talk without pushing a sale. Definitely excited to see some of the new ones coming in this week.

This is the best place around for parrots. Beautiful birds. But remember they live to 60-70 and need love and affection and time out of cage.

Pat Boros (founder of American Bird Company) and her ex husband Steve sold us our first parrot-a Citron Crested Cockatoo, and then within a year our second bird-a Yellow Nape Amazon (T-Bird & Willy) We have had both birds for more than 28 years of our 30 year marriage! Pat continued running ABC (American Bird Company then later-Parrots, Parrots, Parrots) till her death in the Spring of 2014. Pat stayed a small part of our lives as we would buy either food or toys or cages for our 'kids' there or even just stop by several times a year to say hello and hold some baby parrots. She truly cared about the birds that she sold (wild caughts when the industry was a legal government overseen industry to hand raised domestic birds when new laws came about.)I remember her telling me many years ago that she would screen potential customers to see if they would be abusive or negligent bird owners, telling the ones she disqualified "I'm sorry, that bird is not for sale" ;-D-Bless her heart! She has left behind a legacy in the establishment of American Bird Company, having made a good name with the community. She is most certainly missed by my wife Ellen and me.
