Barkley Square has been a godsend for our rescue doodle who had a history of abuse and very little grooming. The entire team at Barkley (all the way down from the owner to the greeters, bathers, and groomers) has shown great love, care, acceptance, and patience in working to decrease our dog's anxiety all while providing a top notch clean and cut each time.They listen to our concerns and have worked with us by providing tips and ideas to continue reinforcing a positive grooming experience. The work of their dedicated groomers, coupled with our own regular work and reinforcement at home, has totally changed his/our experience around grooming. We highly recommend their services and love what they stand for!

Our rescue Coton had an AMAZING experience having his first groom at Barkley Square. We were invited to come by several times for a quick sniff before our actual appointment, and it did a lot to ease our little guy's anxiety (as well as our own). When we had our appointment with Hayley, she did an amazing job making our fearful rescue feel safe and comfortable. She did a fantastic job and completed all the long-overdue grooming work without traumatizing him. She even gave him an Easter bow, and gave us a baggie with a lock of his fur. We are seeing now why both our fear-free vet and his foster mom recommended Barkley Square. All expectations were exceeded!

They’re the best groomers in town!I highly recommended, it took me a long time to finally find someone who understands what I want in my dog and treats him well at the same time. They love animals and they will leave your dog like a teddy bear. You won’t regret choosing them, specially GEORGE!

Cat owners, read!The only place I would groom my cats! They have a new groomer his name is Heesan and he did an amazing job! I highly recommend for any cat owners. Also the owner is amazing she made my experience great! Highly recommend this place.

After many trials with different groomers and pet store I have finally found the best trustable pet spa for my fur baby. Kristina, the kind owner genuinely cares for her furry customers and provides the best quality of grooming service. My groomer Milenka is fantastic. She does a great thorough job and makes my doodle look wonderful and he comes out happy!!

Jay is a godsend! He is a literal cat whisperer. He calmed down George like I had never seen before! He also was very gentle with George as if it was his own cat. I will be coming here from now on. The staff is warm, friendly, and attentive. I was updated several times of the progress of the service as well as his behavior. Can’t put a price on customer service and expertise like that!

Our dog was going to a big commercial place for his bath, nail trimming, etc. My wife heard of dog mistreated. I found Barkley by going to our CPA, and I decided to use them. Yesterday, was the first time we went to Barkley , they offered a very outstanding and professional personalized service, no rushing, relaxing music for pets and humans. I highly recommend their service and of course will we use only Barkley.

I love the dog friendly environment at Barkley Square. It is very relaxed and dogs are given special care. I always feel my Tiki is in good hands at Barkley Square. He also comes out looking and smelling like a million bucks. Last month he was chosen for pet of the month. See photo below!

They always do such a great job with my dog Loki. This past time in particular was amazing. I wanted to mix it up from his traditional puppy and teddy bear cuts and did they deliver! Lokis groomer had just taken an asian fusion cutting class and I told her to go crazy. I loved the results!!Further, Loki has never loved grooming, but he behaves soo much better here than anywhere else. You can really tell everyone at barkley square loves dogs.And it never hurts to support local businesses in our community! Highly recommend!!!

Five star experience all the way. My puppy went there for the first time several months ago and she had a lot of matted hair and hadn’t had a cut in a while, they took great care of her which took them double the time they planned, but they did upcharge me. I will continue using Christine and her crew’s services, knowing to take the best care of my little dog. Everybody has been great.

Barkley Square is the best! After trying many groomers in the DMV for our difficult Great Pyrenees, we finally found Barkley Square, where George is not only patient and kind with him but also does an incredible job on his unique coat! I have and would recommend to any and all of my friends.

I cannot say enough great things about Barkley Square! First, the online booking system is super convenient. I was able to book an appointment with Melissa easily. A friend recommended Barkley Square after we had a bad experience at another groomer in Alexandria. It was really important to me that the groomer was patient with my 6 month old, energetic, wiggly puppy. Melissa was just that! She took the time to come out and introduce herself and listen to what I was looking for with his cut. She texted mid groom to check the length. We have definitely found our go-to grooming spot and will absolutely be back! Thank you Barkley Square!

Very friendly and fast service ( just got a nail trim ). Wish they would have catered to our request to have the grooming area free of other dogs as my dog goes crazy in other dogs company. They cleared quickly but we did specify the special needs with our pup. Thank you for a nice job!

If you want to support a business that values customer service and know how to handle pets, this is not the business for you. I have taken my cat to be groomed at 5 places around the NOVA area (all less expensive than Barkley Square), and after every grooming session, my cat has never been scared for me to cut her nails. After getting groomed for the first time at Barkley Square, she was trembling when I attempted to cut her nails two weeks after her grooming appointment there. I had specifically told the groomer I had cut her nails before the apartment, but he advised he would be cutting them so she didn't scratch him. Clearly the manner in which he cut her nails left her scared for anyone else to, given that she has NEVER been nervous about me cutting her nails. Additionally, this business is not about customer satisfaction. I called the day after the appointment because they didn't do as I had specifically requested regarding her sanitary cut. My cat was groomed and it was clear they made no effort to actually give her a sanitary cut. It has been nearly three weeks, and I have yet to receive a phone call back. It is really unfortunate as I love supporting local pet businesses, but this one is NOT one I nor anyone else should support for both, care with which they treat pets in their care and their complete lack of making it right with customers and ensuring customer satisfaction (particularly for the prices they are charging!).

I recently took my 8 y.o. Samoyed here for grooming and Barkley Square did an INCREDIBLE job! My dog has never looked so good. There is absolutely no comparison to previous groomers I've taken him to. The staff were all very friendly and you can tell that they really care about their work and the dogs they're grooming. I couldn't recommend Barkeley Square enough!

I took my dog to Barkley Square today for her first grooming. Malinka took excellent care of Sadie and the owner, Kristina, took care of me (the nervous mommy). She looks beautiful and was well taken care of. I cannot say thank you enough!!

Agreed…as with the most recent reviews on here, I was a customer of Barkley for 4 years until my boy Grant passed away from an aggressive brain tumor. I never once complained about how there would be nicks or razor burns on Grant, my wheaten terrier, and love Kristina - the owner.Unfortunately their customer service has severely lapsed, and especially during the pandemic. As much as I have been flexible in my schedule, account management, and handling of Grant (even after another groomer said he seemed to be traumatized from previous grooming experiences as she was working with him on his last grooming); I never once uttered a complaint to them.Now when my my partner goes to contact them, after weeks and weeks of trying to get a hold of their accounting representative; they show no sympathy for my loss or for one of their popular clients that would always promote their business. In fact, they simply stated that his account “expired” and there was nothing that could be done. Thanks for nothing in this time of hurt in my life.

I have a 145lb Alaskan Malamute. We have been to three other groomers in the Northern Virginia area. NONE have been able to provide the exceptional grooming we receive at Barkley Square. Our dog has a double coat, he is a wooly malamute. The other groomers hadn't the experience require to properly groom such a large dog with a wool undercoat. I waited until Barkely Square had groomed our dog 3x before writing this review just to be sure it wasn't a fluke of good service for a new client. Each time our big boy comes back perfectly groomed and looking spectacular! I highly recommend this hidden gem!

Absolutely amazing! We got our dog cooper cut here and he looks fantastic. The people are very friendly and they give your dog 100% attention. The area where they get groomed is kind of open as well which is great because I can literally see they are taking care of him. Here’s a pic after his cut!

Pricier than their competitors but you get what you pay for. Jay did a very good job grooming my standard poodle. I also appreciate that 1. When I picked my dog up he wasn't stowed away in some unseen kennel but was instead chilling with the manager in his office and 2. The whole thing took less than 2 hours unlike other places that take 5+ hours for some reason.

I am extremely satisfied with Barkley Square’s mobile grooming service. The team does an excellent job washing and grooming our dog. I would recommend the service to anyone looking for a hassle free option to keeping your pet clean and looking good!

Been taking our pup there since he was 4 months old. They do a wonderful job. Even our breeder remarked how good his retriever cut was. Pup is not a fan of grooming and has a lot of hair. Every time we go the staff is so nice and wonderful despite the fact he is one of the least cooperative dogs. We did have a breakthrough at 9 months old where he finally is getting used to the routine. All the groomers are professional and do a consult w you before and after. I’ve used all of them. Our pup prefers Melissa she definitely seems to have found the magic way with him.

My dog has been going for the last 4 years to this place. Today I dropped him off and picked him up to find out they cut my dogs leg pretty severely. The hair cut was uneven and awful with razor burns all over his body. Additionally, my dog came out of the place in severe distress. Would like to find out who this person who cut my dogs hair is.

Been going to Barkley for over 8 years. Love them today as much as when I started. Good services. Great friendly staff. Best groomer I've ever found in terms of keeping pets only the needed time. Your dog won't be in a cage here for 8 hours. And if you have a puppy who needs to learn how to be ok at the groomer, they have a whole approach to just getting them used to the environment incrementally--setting your pet up for a lifetime of good experiences.

My prior mobile grooming service moved to another location so I transitioned over to Berkley Square. The transition process was very smooth and the staff was very communicative and supportive. I just had my first mobile grooming session for my dog and it was very convenient for me and my dog. Staff was very friendly and did a great job. Definitely recommend Berkley Square!

I went to the Pet Spa at Barkley square for about 2 years regularly with my mini golden-doodle. Kristina, the owner, is a lovely person and in general sets a welcoming tone. Previously, they had great groomers and service, but over the last 6 or more months I feel they have been struggling. I have experienced much longer appointments than expected (4-6 hrs), shifting appointment times and just sending a notice without asking if it works with my schedule, staff turnover and callouts, and scheduling and payment issues when they switched systems. The last straw for me was when one of the groomers cut square patches into my dog. I called twice to complain and ask for my next appointment with a different groomer and my call was never returned. When I said I didn't want that to happen again, the groomer defended it (professionally) and said it was because of matting and the shaving was what I wanted and she knew that because of her 10 years of experience. I think her name was Katie or probably Karen, but I don't need to pay more than $2000 a year for someone to disregard my wishes for dog's groom and to make it all about them. I believe the customer should have a say in what kind of cut their dog should get in consultation with the groomer but I didn’t receive that courtesy or reassurance it would be differently in the future. Unfortunately, the customer service is not up to my standard so I found a better place to receive service.
