We just returned from a phenomenal stay at Windymile! The cabin is cozy and perfect for a refreshing get away. We were treated to multiple sightings of wildlife and the pups were able to experience cows pretty up close. The yard is perfect to allow the dogs to run free and explore nature, and we really enjoyed the outdoor fireplace. The location is just close enough to enjoy local sights and restaurants, but far enough away to relax. I would recommend 10/10 and hope to return in the coming months. Do yourself a favor...pack your pups (or your kids) and visit for a few days to experience the mountain air - you will thank me!

We chose this rental because it was centrally located to the things we wanted to do -- river tubing and the Jefferson Pools in Warm Springs. But we were so pleasantly surprised at how nice the cabin was and how convenient ---- it feels totally remote but is only a few minutes away from shopping and Downtown Lexington. The cabin was immaculate and the accommodations wonderful. So very comfortable. My husband was disappointed at first by the size of the TV but it really wasn't an issue. The cabin is such a great value. And the owners were so nice to us and easy to deal with. If we travel that way again, we'll be sure to stay. I bet it's incredible in the Fall with the changing leaves and views of the mountains.

The Dixon cabin was wonderful for peace and quiet, but close enough to venture out for the day. We had such a relaxing time just sitting outside watching the dogs play, reading and just enjoying each other's company. The cabin was clean and had the basics for you in the kitchen. The outside of the cabin has a gorgeous view of mountains and farmland. Enjoy it all by the fire! When we did adventure outside of the cabin, we checked out some horse shows at the Virginia Horse Center just down the road. We also checked out the downtown area of Lexington, Goshen Pass for hiking and views and the local craft breweries (Blue Lab and Devil's Backbone). It was a long weekend that was way too short. We will definitely be back! Dave and Aubrey live on the property. They leave you to enjoy your time away from home, but are very welcoming and helpful if you need them for anything at all. I wish I was back at the cabin right now!

I searched all over the area for a place that was quiet, had great views, and could accommodate the whole family for a reasonable price. We certainly found that with Windymile. The owners were accommodating at every step of the way. The cabin was great and really had everything we needed to spend time with family. While Lexington certainly has great things to see we spent a great deal of time at the kitchen table laughing and playing games. The views in the morning were wonderful with a cup of coffee. It was isolated enough to give privacy and a quiet atmosphere, but still close enough to Lexington points of interest. I really did search all within a 50 mile range of Lexington and this really was the best deal for for a family of 5 and the parents. I was there in August 2013, and I would love to return when it is cooler outside. It would be great to sit around the fire ring on a brisk evening. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful cabin with us!

We had a great stay at Windymile. It is such a beautiful setting and our dog loved romping around the yard. We really enjoyed the sunsets, sitting by the fire, and watching our dog go crazy seeing cows for the first time. The cabin itself was clean and comfortable and the owner, Dave, was very helpful in telling us about the area. Thank you for a great stay!

My wife and I along with little dog Eddie spent winter, January and February 2020 in the Windymile cabin and had a wonderful time. We are from Minnesota but have spent the last 7 winters in the tropics of the Shenandoah Valley. The cabin is in a spectacular setting, accessible to Lexington and Staunton, restaurants and breweries along with amazing outdoor resources. We loved waking to the cattle and view of the mountains. Hosts, Audrey and Dave are laid back, helpful and we enjoyed getting to know them. We are retired and frequent travelers. We highly recommend Windymile!

Peaceful setting... fantastic views... very dog friendly!
We stayed at This Lexington Virginia Cabin on two separate nights and were not disappointed. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed and the 2.5 acre fenced pasture was a blast for our 4 dogs to run around in and explore. The views are just amazing and there is no way you can't just relax in the peaceful setting. Definitely going back to explore more of the beautiful Goshen Pass area and eclectic city of Lexington... plus, the dogs are looking forward to barking at the cows again.

We have stayed at Windymile twice and can't wait to go back. People often joke that parents don't get vacations on family trips, they just keep doing the same cycle of cooking and cleaning just in a different place. At Windymile, though, all of our parents duties are made infinitely better by the lovely setting, simplicity and ease of staying at the cabin, and the spectacular views. Our two little kids and two dogs loved exploring the property and watching the neighboring cows while my husband and I enjoyed the stunning sunsets, stargazing, and cozy outdoor fireplace. We loved how quiet it was (and that the kids and dogs could make as much noise as they wanted without disturbing anyone) and that everyone was safely enclosed within the fencing and set way back from the road. Another big plus for us is that the cabin is one story with no stairs. This made it easy and safe for the kids to toddle in and out and we could keep an eye on them very easily, and there are two bedrooms with doors that close for nap time. Dave was super helpful in setting us up with everything we needed and suggesting fun places to explore. The cabin is equipped with basic kitchen supplies like pots, pans, silverware, and cleaning solutions. There is also a dishwasher and a washer and dryer; a big plus! We seriously wish we could live there.

What a wonderful Cabin. Our family stumbled upon Windymile on Foursquare for a last minute Cabin rental near Lexington VA, and we couldn't have been happier to have found it! Dave was very attentive and helpful, and the cabin itself was a great place to stay. We enjoyed the views, the outdoor fireplace, and the cows. Don't miss Goshen Pass with its nearby swimming and fishing! We hope to return to Windymile Cabin!

This is the first time we had been able to get away in several years and Windymile is just what we needed. Our dogs are part of our family so it is very important that we can take them with us when we go. The cabin has a large fenced in yard for the dogs and everything the humans need as well. We spent our time visiting Natural Bridge, hiking Goshen Pass, sight seeing and antique shopping in Lexington. It was nice to come back to the cabin in the evening and building a fire in the outdoor fireplace and looking at the stars. We look forward to returning soon.

Peace. Tranquility. Solitude. Dog-friendly. I found all that and more at Windymile Cabin. If you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the place for you. Windymile is an easy drive from Washington, DC. I came for a solo retreat with my two city dogs. They loved being able to sniff and run through a couple of fenced acres and bark at the cows. The cabin is situated on a quarter acre fenced lot with another 2 fenced acres surrounding it. Beyond that is a cow pasture, the host's place and amazing mountain views. You'll feel like you are away from everything (and everyone) on your own peaceful oasis. The cabin was clean and had all that I needed including a great stash of DVDs. Internet and cable isn't provided but I connected just fine with my Verizon cell service. There is a lot to explore in the area - hiking trails, fishing spots and lots of places to just roam around. So grab a good book, your hiking shoes and your fishing poles and head out to Windymile. And don't forget your dogs!

This cabin is exactly as described on the website. It is very clean and cozy, but not luxurious. The views are beautiful and and the surroundings are very quiet. The cabin is well stocked with the basics and is a great set up if you are travelling with pets. The owner was very hospitable and accommodating. The only drawback (if it is one) is that it is a little ways out of town - about a 15 - 20 minute drive to Washington & Lee campus. We did not spend much time in the cabin as we were in town with our son for Parents Weekend most of the time, but we would definately recommend it.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet at Windymile Cabin near Lexington VA. It is very clean. It offers simple accomodations, but it has everything you need, and is a great value! The kitchen is nicely supplied. We Loved the outdoor fireplace and watched shooting stars while we made s'mores . Firewood was available, and the scenery was without equal. We are looking forward to coming back to enjoy biking and hiking. We would definitely recommend this Blue ridge Mountain Cabin in Lexington Virginia!

We had a wonderful time at Windymile. The cabin is very clean and it has everything we needed. The views are amazing. We really enjoyed watching the fireplace and making s'mores. Our dog loved the fenced yard. She ran around the yard and barked those cows for hours. The owner, Dave is very nice and he was pointing out the places for us to visit. We plan on coming back next year. Thanks so much Dave.Cathy Trang

We enjoyed peaceful living at this Lexington VA Cabin. Windymile is very clean. Simple accomodations, but it has everything you need. Loved playing Trouble! The kitchen is nicely supplied. I would definitely bring your own food because it is a bit of a hike into town. It was very cold, so we didn't use the outdoor fireplace. We made our s'mores in the microwave instead! We looking forward to coming back in the summer to enjoy mountain biking and hiking.

Hands down the best value for your dollar! Amazing views. Peaceful serenity. The sunsets every day are unbeatable. I think I took over 1,000 pictures the week we stayed. So many great things around town to do and see. My kids think it is the best place, and I have to agree. Everything is always clean and comfy. If it was for sale, I would scoop it up in a heart beat! Can't wait to continue our tradition of yearly visits here.

Everything about this cabin was fantastic! The combination of stunning star skies, owl hoots, mountain sunrises, comfy beds, wonderful open kitchen and fire pits makes this place unbeatable. The nearby hikes are beautiful, and the cabin owner knows the area like the back of his hand. I'd highly recommend this cabin rental!

My parents and I found ourselves on this beautiful property a couple of years ago when we wanted a vacation from the big city. The owners, Dave and Audrey were absolutely wonderful and very accommodating. The cabin was comfortable and the views were stunning!

Our family of seven (the parents, 3 kids, and 2 dogs) had a fabulous Memorial Day Weekend at the Adair cottage. I was pleasantly suprised to see that the cabin was more comfortable than expected. (I am not a camping girl) . The cottage was clean and homey. The kids and dogs LOVED all of the space they had to run around outside. After having day trips to the local sites, Natural Bridge and Caves, Foamhenge, Virginia Safari Park, and downtown Lexington, we spent our evenings at the cabin around the campfire or flying kites. The kids never missed their wi-fi. We would definitely love to spend another weekend at the cabin and would recommend it to everyone.

I absolutely loved the simplicity and lovely, happy vibe this cabin had to offer! Though I was slightly concerned when I saw how close the cabin was to the owner's house, Dave and Audry were quiet and we had no idea if they were even home! Dave was very friendly and made sure we knew he was just a call away, then we didn't see him again. The beds were kind of small and the support was horrible, but since the mattresses are so light, me and the hubby just pulled one into the living room on the floor, and THAT was PERFECT! We had such a wonderful time and we really didn't want to go home; I look forward to returning to this peaceful little place! Thanks again for letting us stay! We've never felt so at home! ♡ we brought our 9 month old daughter, and we were worried she would fuss, but she slept through both nights. She felt safe and at home too!!!

Great place to get away from it all. The cabin had everything needed and the yard was wonderful for the dogs to run. Outdoor fireplace was well worth using each night. Very relaxing and quiet location. I hope to return someday.

We rented the cabin with our 2 young children for a Washington and Lee parents weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nice clean cabin and very friendly owners. Would recommend it as solid maintenance- free accommodations with beautiful views at a very reasonable price.

Five stars. We know this area very well, yet we had no idea there was a place this beautiful that we could rent. The cabin is in excellent shape, airtight and comfortable, and the views are spectacular. Dave made himself available for anything we might need, yet he wasn't intrusive at all. Can't say enough good things about this place, and we can't wait to go back.
