I’ve been a volunteer foster for Wolf Trap Animal Rescue and fostered 5 puppies/dogs. It is such a good experience to foster and this organization is completely coordinated- the rescue pick ups, the foster, the veterinarian. If you are looking for an opportunity I highly recommend Wolf Trap Animal Rescue- everything every time runs so smoothly!

My boyfriend and I adopted a cat very quickly and easily. The application form was painless and we were able to meet our cat the next day, and adopt him the next week. The foster mom, Michelle, was very quick to respond to any questions we had and house-trained our kitty perfectly. We also appreciated that Dr. Amber Burton checked in with us ahead of time, and we got a call to see how he was settling in after a week. You can tell they really care about both the animals and the people adopting them. Highly recommend!

I’m a first time pup parent but the adoption process with WTAR was awesome and set me up for success. The fact that all the animals get placed with foster families first so they can tell you more about your animal’s personality along the way and give you advice on their care made me feel like I was getting good background on my lady. Our foster family had their own dogs at home that helped my puppy learn how to interact with other dogs and understand that outside is the place to potty. Their amount of experience contrasts my amount of zero experience but made me feel like I was being shepherded through the process. They also encouraged me to come visit my pup multiple times before the official adoption day so she was a little more familiar with me before we took her home. WTAR did an awesome job of including as much information as they could about my puppy when they gave me her history/medical history - great records of everything they did for her once she was taken in by WTAR and the shelter before them where she was found. The whole process was informative and easy, they give you a checklist of everything you need to do to complete the adoption and they called to check in on how we’ve been doing a few weeks after her adoption. Also the adopters get invited to a facebook group to connect with fellow adopters. Its a great community of people you get to stay in touch with and ask questions and advice from. Just awesome all around.

I have been beyond impressed with Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. From the moment I first spoke with a foster coordinator to the end of my foster period, I felt like everything was so well organized and the pets were in the best care possible. There are people available to support you with any questions or concerns you have. I spoke to Sarah about what would work for our family when fostering a dog and boy did she listen. We were considering a foster to adopt situation and she picked the PERFECT pup for us. She is a dream and fit right in with our family, so we of course adopted her.I began fostering a few months ago for another rescue and was disgusted with how unorganized everything was and how poorly these dogs were treated. I fostered twice through that rescue and helped with several transports and it was heartbreaking to see the condition they were in. It is a moneymaking rescue where the pups well-being is not priority. With Wolf Trap, these dogs are seen by a vet, spayed/neutered, vaccinated and have check-ins to keep the fosters/adopters accountable for following through with the proper care they need.Thank you Wolf Trap for such an amazing experience. I cannot wait until our sweet pup is old enough so that we can foster through you again! <3

i adopted my 2mo old pupp from WTAR in December. Although their process on adopting a pupp was concise, the part after you adopt is atrocious. i’ve tried a numerous amount of times to get in touch with their financial department, on some services that were charged but not completed and have not gotten a response. if you like not being heard and a mismanaged org this agency is for you. 2/5 *’s

I've been fostering for Wolf Trap Animal Rescue for almost a year now and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. This rescue works with you to meet all your needs and ensure that the dogs in your care get happy and healthy lives. If the puppy is sick in the middle of the night, Dr. Burton is there to help, if you need medicine or medical advice, they help right away. I've had 10 foster dogs so far and plan to continue fostering as long as possible. They are easy to work with and everyone involved truly is there for their love of animals. I've referred friends, family, and classmates to Wolf Trap and everyone I've talked to has had positive experiences.I also volunteer at their morning intakes when possible. Volunteering is a competitive position, as everyone wants to be involved, which just goes to show how much these fosters and volunteers enjoy this organization. I mean, why else would people be fighting to be in the freezing cold, snow, or rain to hold yelping, smelly animals from 8-12 on a Sunday morning? And although the adoption fee may seem pricey, it's really because it incorporates so much -- this includes up-to-date vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick control, microchipping, transportation from MS to VA, ALL supplies for a 2-3 week foster period (this includes food, bowls, treats, puppy pads, 24/7 vet care, toys, crates; all of this is SO USEFUL to the fosters), additional meds or treatment for puppies who need it, 30 day pet insurance, and SPAY/NEUTER. I recently had my own dog spayed, and it was $450 just for the spay surgery. This rescue's goal is to give you a healthy and socialized puppy, and they absolutely work with puppies and fosters to achieve this. These puppies sometimes are afflicted with Parvovirus or Kennel Cough and need the extra treatment that Dr. B provides. When you adopt the dog and pay the fee, you are getting the result of weeks or months of care, and it is absolutely worth it.Besides everything else, this organization is really like a family. Once you become a part of Wolf Trap, you keep coming back. If you have any questions, reach out to the volunteers and fosters, as they are more than willing to help. We're all just in it to save lives.

Adopted our new pup two weeks ago from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue and the process couldn't have gone smoother. They are very attentive to detail and the website walks you through the entire process without any confusion. We're very thankful and lucky that WTAR and the foster parents take such good care of these pups prior to them finding their forever homes. Having some initial crate/potty training with the foster has made it a huge help giving us a jump start with taking care of a young dog.Grace and the Foster-mom Mary were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Could not have asked for anything better. Please support this incredible group of folks and all the hard work they are putting in!

My (adult) daughter had wanted to adopt a puppy for years so when she was finished with graduate school in DC she was ready. She had been going onto the Wolf Trap Animal Rescue website everyday and found the most darling puppies from the "P" litter (six females) from Mississippi with an adoption date of 10/15/21. Because she had moved to Delaware for her job, she had to drive down to Virginia to do the meet-and-greet with the foster mom, Abbie, and the puppy she wanted to meet. My husband and I went with our daughter to hopefully meet our new granddog. Well, when Abbie got out of the car she had one of the sisters in her arms as well. That was it - we went right home and applied to adopt the sister. The application was very easy to complete yet very thorough. I appreciated the questions that were asked as they showed great concern for the welfare of the furbabies. Every step in the process was designed to find the best fit and to ensure that they went to a safe and loving home. So, now my daughter has Pippa (WTAR Pine Cone) and we have Remi (WTAR Pie). We were impressed with the health records we received from WTAR (spaying, vaccinations, etc.), and with the follow-up a few weeks after adoption. When we took "the girls" to our vet he described them as "exuberant" and they are still the happiest of puppies. We live close to each other so Pippa and Remi see each other constantly. We credit WTAR for our beautiful girls and applaud the work they do. We are equally grateful to Abbie and her family for providing a great deal of love and socialization during those critical first weeks. We met Abbie's daughter and, when we drove back down for the "hand-off", we met her husband as well. They obviously cared a great deal about the girls and gave us their favorite blankets, toys, bowls, and even a dog bed. Of course, Pippa and Remi still try to squeeze into the cat's bed (with the cat in it). THANK YOU to WTAR and to Abbie and family. It will be an even happier holiday this year!

I had such a wonderful experience. I adopted a little "big" cutie named big bend as a 7 month puppy. To be fair, we meet 2 dogs but the first foster parent never got back to us, but so we met a 2nd puppy. It was great happenstance as this fellow fits into our pack so well. Our foster mom gave us a shirt she wore with food and his favorite treats to help us transition. They also were very accommodating knowing adopting during covid could be tricky with follow up vet appointments. Fortunately, our vet is quite responsive and we didn't need it, but could see how people would. We couldn't ask for a better experience.

My husband and I decided we wanted to adopt a puppy at the beginning of this year, but we were uncertain if our resident pup, Barley (8 years old), would also be on board. WTAR's bespoke foster experience was the perfect way for us to acclimate ourselves and Barley to puppy-rearing, so we went through the 3-week process of fostering a 6-week old puppy (WTAR Pigs in a Blanket) in January. The fostering experience was SO wonderful - we felt incredibly supported by the foster team and Dr. Burton. Sarah Barker was extremely thoughtful in pairing us with the perfect puppy, and WTAR provided us with ALL of the essential educational materials, puppy gear, and vet attention to set us up for success. Within the first few days of fostering Pigs, my 12 year old niece fell head over heels for him, so my sister and brother in law applied to adopt him. We were so sad to see him go by the end of our foster period, but knew it would not be a goodbye since he was staying in the family :) Fast forward 2 weeks later, we had set up a couple of meet & greets with WTAR puppies that we thought would be a great addition to our family. For the 3 of us, it was love at first sight when we met Coco (WTAR Bedazzled, pictured here) - and it definitely helped that her foster family was beyond incredible in caring for her and communicating with us. She came home on 2/26 and our lives have been changed for the better ever since. I would not hesitate for one second in recommending WTAR as a top option for anyone interested in fostering, and especially for people who are thinking about adopting.

We recently adopted a puppy from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. The decision to adopt was definitely less than well-planned, and we are so happy we did!WTAR's website and process for screening is incredibly thorough and yet very easy to use.The fosters were so kind and communicative. We actually were between 2 possible pups at the time. The foster of one was very upfront about some of the challenges with that particular puppy. I new immediately that she would not thrive in our chaotic house and we could actually harm her progress. I am so appreciative and grateful that the foster took the time to be honest and explain, instead of just trying to push the adoption through. That sweet girl found a home with a quieter home and she is so lucky that her foster was so patient and honest, to ensure she found the best home. The foster of the pup we ended getting was AMAZING as well. She took such good care of the little lady and got her socialized with her 2 dogs and cats. She started simple training - leash, potty, sit, etc. She communicated every day and shared info about her schedule, what her favorite toys are and more. The actually process of adopting was definitely strange because of COVID, we didn't get to go anywhere to meet anyone from WTAR. We also had limited interaction with the puppy beforehand. None of that hinder our confidence because of how well thought out their website and planning is.We have stayed in touch with both fosters and are tremendously grateful for their communication and kindness.I have also referred several friends and neighbors to check out WTAR.I'm so impressed with all they do.Our new family member is healthy, happy, and home in no small part due to the incredible work of Dr Amber Burton, Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, and all of the fosters.

We adopted our dog Luna from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. We started off as just fostering but after a few days quickly became 'foster failures.' Wolf Trap Animal Rescue was so organized and make the ability to be a foster AND adopt seamless. They are also extremely responsive as well as the vet Dr. Burton when I had questions. Will always think of them when adopting a dog in the future!

We had a very pleasant experience adopting our kitten from Wolf Trap! We were concerned about wait times and options during this crazy pandemic, but Wolf Trap made it easy. We filled out an application online, and within one day, we heard back from a foster family! We set up a meet and greet right away, and we brought our kitten home within the week. He is the perfect new addition to our family, and we are so thankful to Wolf Trap for their efficiency and support throughout the process!

I would 10/10 recommend WTAR to all people who is considering adopt animal!1. WTAR is very responsive. Paola always replies message promptly and provides very helpful information (I did contact other shelters at the same time for the adoption, none of them provide me such a good supporting.)2. WTAR has very high quality foster families who are taking care these little ones very well. Since my kitten was taken care very well by her foster family, she has very good personalities and habit and she is our sweet heart in my family. Thanks the foster family a lot!3. WTAR is very professional. The vet handled everything before you get the little one.

We adopted our sweet baby Theo (previously puddle) from wolf trap and cannot recommend this place enough. We saved so much time and money as he came already neutered and didn’t have to worry about that and the initial shots. Due to the socialization he got from being fostered, he adores people and dogs (we even got him a sister)

I started off with WTAR by adopting my boy from here. He is such a perfect addition to our family. Calm, smart, a great running buddy, and total love bug. I have volunteered with WTAR, fostered for them, and helped my friends get their fur babies from here. Love this place and what they do to help control the pet population!

We couldn't have had a better experience adopting our two puppies from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue! We signed up as fosters and ended up falling in love with our sweet girls and had to make them part of our family. From day one, every single person we met from the rescue was kind and super helpful. The entire foster and adoption process was very easy with lots of communication throughout. When I had questions, I received responses quickly. I would definitely recommend Wolf Trap Animal Rescue to all of my family and friends whether they're looking to foster or adopt.

I was looking for an affectionate kitten for my daughter. What we found was the sweetest animal I've ever known. Everyone from Wolf Trap has been amazing. From the INCREDIBLE foster mom we got our little boy from to the organization as a whole. I have only amazing things to say about Wolf Trap Animal Rescue!

WTAR is awesome! We decided to sign up to foster in 2020 after we moved and had a little more space as we have one dog already. The rescue was fantastic at answering any questions I had and the rest of WTAR foster community was great at answering little questions I had about fostering. After fostering our older dog was so sad to see the puppies leave that we ended up adopting from the rescue shortly after. The foster was very responsive once they received our meet and greet request and once we were chosen as the adopters was fantastic at giving us updates up until the day we brought him home. Once our dog was old enough, we’ve continued to foster and continue to recommend the rescue to any one we know looking to foster or adopt.

We are so glad to have discovered Wolf Trap Animal Rescue - the organization is incredibly diligent, thoughtful, and organized. Their mission of focusing resources on puppy transports because of the realities of adoption demand is not only pragmatic but humane. It's clear that they care hugely about the well-being of their rescues, from start to finish. The adoption process was easy to understand, but very thorough - they definitely take the time to vet their applicants. We were thrilled to receive word that we were approved for a puppy, and have had a great first few weeks with our pup. Everyone at WTAR has been quick to answer our questions and follow up with our vet care in the weeks since our gotcha day, and joining the Facebook page for adopters has been great in building community. We are doing a meet-up with our puppy's transport mates in a few weeks, and are thrilled that we can provide him with some sense of family/continuity despite how life started out for him. Thank you to everyone at Wolf Trap!!

We just recently adopted our dog as a new family from WTAR. What stood out to us was the clear expectations laid out by the website, the Foster, and the operations team at WTAR - it made the entire process so smooth and enjoyable. Our foster was also communicative throughout the adoption process and did a great completing the basic training for the puppy. We overall had a very positive experience adopting from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue and have already begun recommending them to friends looking to add a furry friend to the family!

We adopted a puppy a couple of weeks ago and were very impressed by the quality of care from the foster family, and the organization and efficiency of the process. While with the foster family, the puppy had a few health issues that they were able to help him recover from thanks to great care from Wolf Trap's vet. Communication was very open, which was very helpful to ensure that we were aligned. That made the transition to adoption very smooth. Thanks, Wolf Trap!

The people at Wolf Trap Animal Rescue are great! They help find homes for tons of animals in needs. I adopted an amazing lab mix puppy from them, and the process was clear, fair and simple. The puppy came to me from a great foster family who had already started training her, and she had been spayed and microchipped. The staff follows up to make sure you have everything you need to start your life with your new companion. I can’t say enough good things about my experience with the WTAR family.
