I would give this place more stars if I could. I enjoyed watching Joshua's videos for months (years?) and learned so much, and then was so happy when he was able to open his own school not too far away from me, and I got to take a class, the 3-day introduction class. It was amazing. He is such a good, clear, and patient teacher and the class had a perfect blend of instruction time and then time to apply the teaching ourselves, great class size, easy location. I recommend his classes and videos even for conventional/power tool woodworkers because there are situations where a hand tool is actually better.

I took the "Introduction to Hand Tool Woodworking" class. It was wonderful. Joshua is an excellent instructor and is skilled at working with students of varying degrees of experience. He teaches with patience and an abundance of good humor.

I'm fortunate to live nearby and was surprised and delighted to have discovered the school. I've taken 3 classes there. Joshua is friendly, engaging, and highly knowledgeable. The shop is impressive and very well equipped. The instructors are skilled, highly experienced and, fortunately for me, patient. I will probably add additional classes in the future.

Joshua is immensely knowledgable of his subjects. His style of teaching puts one at ease, and makes learning from him a pleasure. I visit this site frequently and greatly benefit from the information Joshua presents. His thorough and easy-going style takes away the reluctance to try new techniques or correct errors.Any wood worker, but especially beginners, should bookmark this site. All material is well presented and sufficiently detailed--great presenter and very good production quality.I just wish I was able to take one of his in-person classes.

Joshua's hand tool buyers guide has been very helpful. I've been able to use those review to avoid buying tools I wouldn't need and to buy quality tools I do and will need. Although I'm not a beginner, I found his 10 steps for beginners spot on and also his videos are helpful. He has provided a great resource for wood workers.

I took a two day bowl carving course here last summer. Great location and a fantastic shop. Joshua and his team were friendly and fun but, more importantly, very knowledgeable and eager to share thoughts and ideas. First class school in my opinion. It's a long way away from Toronto Ontario but, I'll be back again!

Joshua has created little slice of woodworking heaven just outside of Charlottesville, VA. The facility is well-equipped and the instructors are very knowledgeable. I particularly enjoyed the small class sizes that allowed for excellent interaction between students and instructors and between fellow students. Joshua also provides regular informational posts via his email subscription which I have found to be very useful.

I've not been to any of Joshua'a classes but I love to receive and read his online blog from Wood & Shop! He provides great knowledge of wood working hand tools of which I am a true fan. I would encourage anyone interested in hand tool woodworking to subscribe to his blog. If I lived closer to his location I would definitely love to take some of the many classes he offers and would encourage others to do the same!

Enjoyed taking the basic class. The workshop is well organized and students are able to work at their own pace. Joshua is very experienced and a patient instructor. The online videos are great as well.

I truly enjoy watching videos. I find themInformative and provides a perspective that helps me with my woodworking. I would love to take one of his classes, but I do not like to travel much and of course the expense is something I also consider. Please continue the videos as they are not like the class room, but it does give me insight that is difficult to get from a book. Thanks for taking the time to produce them. Lyle

If you are at all interested in woodworking, especially woodworking using traditional hand tools, you definitely need to check out Wood and Shop. I have learned a lot from the many excellent videos and online tutorials available on the website. I look forward to taking a class at Wood and Shop in the not too distant future. But in the meantime, I have purchased several of the videos that Joshua has made. All have been of exceptional quality and packed with useful information.

I have taught at a number of woodworking schools and at Wood and Shop Traditional Woodworking School as well. Josh's school is very well equipped with benches and tools. The school's location is spectacular, in the rolling hills of central Virginia. Very close to C'vill for dining and points of interest. Josh has a tremendous line-up of instructors (excepting myself, of course!) and there is excellent opportunity to learn great new skills.

I am on this companies email mailing list and regularly receive emails. I find the information included to be of excellent quality and highly practical and applicable to the type of woodworking that I enjoy performing. The author provides easy to follow in-depth detail on all necessary facets of the subject and includes links to sources that are able to provide tools and materials for sale. In summary, I am very pleased with the high level of quality information provided at this site and eagerly await to receive and review the content of all future emails. If future conditions allow, I will give strong consideration with regard to traveling to the site and taking a course.

I had zero woodworking experience prior to taking the three day introduction to woodworking with Joshua. I learned so much in three days. Joshua is a wonderfully kind and patient instructor and the workshop is extremely comfortable and well-equipped with a range of well-tuned hand woodworking tools. I can't wait to take another class with Joshua or any of the other accomplished instructors who visit the school each year.

I took a one day joinery class on 2-10-19 with Joshua, Wood and Shop founder.I will say my skill set did not increase to a point where I can say I'm proficient, but I can say, having the hands on tutorship and instant access to reinforcement on technique and perspective far outweighs the inflated belief, either by watching YouTube videos or just reading a "how to" manual, that you can figure your way through a piece of wood.Kindness and patience was how Joshua taught the class, I would not only highly recommend Wood and Shop, but I would actively encourage anybody interested in woodworking in the Mid Atlantic region to take 1-4 days vacation in lovely Charlottesville Virginia, and attend a workshop.

While I have not had the pleasure of personally attending one of Mr. Farnsworth classes. His online offerings are, now and in the past, an incredible resource. Maybe one day I will be able to merge the two by learning from him in person. Thank you for teaching this old dog, I am 70 years old, many new and useful lessons.

Joshua's articles and videos have been a major help for me as I have taken an interest in traditional methods of woodworking. I have purchased several used planes using his advice and have learned how to use them to join and smooth rough lumber by hand for a bed I'm making. Josh,I have taken two classes at the school, and have throughly enjoyed both of them. I found the shop very well equipped and a pleasant to work. Both of the instructors were first rate and very knowledgeable. I hope to be back soon.
