We stayed at the Oneida late April 2024 and the river and view were incredible! Can’t say much for the accommodations. The bed and couch both were ridiculously worn out to the point that they should have been trashed! So bad that very little rest was had! Extremely disappointing! DO BETTER NRR!!!

We stayed at Anisidi Lodge for 9 days. The house is beautiful and the kitchen is well equipped. The property is excellent and location on the river is very nice. We had a great time kayaking, fishing, sitting out by the fire at the river.The reason I only give it three stars is because the listing says there is a game room in the basement with pool table, air hockey and corn hole boards. All of these items do exist but they are all broken or in such disrepair that they are unusable.The pool table and corn hole boards need to be added to the fire pit. I just don't even know where to begin on what is bad about them. Just trash.The air hockey table works but the goal on one end is broken so one player has to hold it with one hand and hope the puck doesn't smash their fingers in the process. Also it is plugged in to a light fixture in the ceiling with an extension cord that is most definitely not up to code.It just costs too much money to rent a home that is not what the listing claims it to be.I suspect that New River Retreat does not actually own this home so I doubt that anything can be done other than ask the owner to either upgrade or get rid of the game room. I alerted New River Retreat about these items in an email, they said they would look in to it but then never got back to me.

If I could give it ten stars, I would do it for the New River Retreat Customer service and hospitality. We stayed at the Starry Night from April 25- 28, 2002. Although we had unfortunate luck and were involved in a car accident, we had an excellent experience staying with the New River Retreat team! Kate and her team/family provided us five stars customer service!! At New River Retreat, they treated their guest as a family. They went above and beyond to ensure that their guests received top-notch service. Their staff was easy to get in touch with throughout the stay! I was super impressed and grateful for their fantastic hospitality!! The cabin was super clean and fully equipped with kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom stuff. The environment was so peaceful and beautiful. Dogs are welcome and have ample space to run and play! Great place to get recharge and refresh!! Great people to get in contact with! I highly recommend the New River Retreat, especially the Starry night, for your next getaway vacation!! Thank you! --Nam

We enjoyed our stay at the River House last weekend! ☺ The house is spacious yet cozy and very tastefully decorated. Of course, the river and surrounding views were gorgeous as well. We were pleasantly surprised by the S'mores kit left as a courtesy by the staff. The price is a little high when you have a dog (who is very well behaved btw)and 10 am is kind of early for checkout...anyway, I did enjoy it and look forward to future stays.

My husband and I stayed in the Whistle Stop Inn (New River Retreat) from June 22-25, 2017 for our 21st Anniversary and LOVED our stay. This small, quaint, beautiful little cottage was "brought back to life" from the late 1800's and was the original train station/depot of Allisonia, VA. Our main reason for visiting this area was to bike the New River but our cottage we rented made our stay even better. We could not have asked for a better place to have stayed for our weekend. Very clean and equipped with everything we needed. Thank you New River Retreat!

Great homemade food. The environment was interesting and fun to look at the Mercantile shop. They also have a yoga studio in the basement. A party room on the main level and a masseuse on staff. Plus sometimes they have a theater group perform in the evenings. This is a place full of cute eclectic things and good food. I would definitely visit here again. They also serve breakfast until 3pm win win!

We had an absolute blast at Abigail's Lake View for graduation weekend. The property was right on the water with an incredible view and amazing amenities. NRR has awesome customer service and was there to fix our dishwasher in a matter of minutes (even though it really wasn't even broken). Highly recommend!

I booked AYITA cabin last minute i found it on my phone. My other plans fell through quickly. I could not have been more pleased!! the people on the phone were awesome. The check in, check out was super easy. The cabin was so clean had everything you could need. The spring water pipe on the property was wonderful. I cant wait to go back! It is now one of my happy places.

The stay and the house were great. The rental company, however, not so great. They charged my debit card $750 for bogus cleaning fees. DO NOT rent from this company! They charged my card before sending me an email laying out their ridiculous claims. This was a family vacation for us, my husband and I, our children and my elderly parents. They accused us of having a house party!

Where to begin....First.... some pros: the lake area and cabana are pretty cool and the view is beautifu.We are a couple that has stayed in various air bnb locations and private vacation rentals OCONUS and CONUS. This place was NOT up to par in comparison and we harbor many regrets about booking here. We payed just shy of 700.00 to drive down on a Friday evening after work (3.4 hours) and checkout Sunday morning since their strict cancellation policy would not allow us to cancel 9 months in advanced due to military business(tdy). We chose to just reschedule and use the lakehouse since we had to pay either way.4 TVs no wifi at all. Rained the whole time which is fine.What better then to stay in with a glass of wine and watch a good movie on a rainy day? At least we got The Breakfast Club and Grumpy Old Men on direct tv.Not a lot of thought put into guests. It honestly felt like geared to owner not consumer. Many upgrades made but didnt upgrade decor with it. Dont get me wrong, the view is beautiful BUT in the back of my mind was thinking " we payed 700.00 for this ?!"Lots of posted notes all over house of what not to do but very little thought put into consumer minus plugging in deck lights and leaving coffee and cream in cabinets.When you are paying nearly a grand and arent even staying an entire weekend we expect some sort of effort to be made in the overall experience and feel of the place. Clean space and amenities were expected due to it being a business .Simple things like leaving a few bottles of water knowing folks probably made a long trip and dont know the area, leaving towels out for guests and not stocking towels that dont look like they were hand me downs( mismatched/faded) and thrown in closet are not that difficult to provide especially with the money guests are spending. Maybe have some bathroom storage for people to place toiletries, a coat rack , a place to hose off after walking in the mud to lake(its a lake house). I think if you want to offer secluded home with BYO supplies and no internet, offer it as such but for the money I think that it can be done right, at least for us. The market is so competitive that I am surprised this books and has such high ratings especially with an additional 500.00 event fee for anything above occupancy.Truthfully, I have had better stays for much less money.Overall dissapointed and wont stay in a house associated with this company again especially with the strict cancellation policy and being dual active duty couple. Not worth the money or the drive, even with the grand view.

Had a terrible experience, with my wife going into labor prior to our reservation and they would not refund the money paid. Not the people I would want to do business with. They recommend that you buy the Insurance in case you were planning on the last minute cancellation, or if you are like me, may be having their first child. I guess I should have asked my son what time he wanted to come, then I could have given New River Retreat a bit of a heads up. So unless you are good at mind reading, or can predict the future, I wouldn't recommend New River Retreat, they won't help or even attempt to help you.

Rented "Reflections" from July 27th - August 3rd. House was amazing! Log-home style inside; 2 bedrooms with 2.5 baths; 2 levels- kitchen and living room on main level with master bedroom; lower level has TV room, bedroom, full bath, laundry, screened in porch and access to walkway to river. The walkway was VERY steep- house is on side of mountain. The two level dock with canopies and water slide were great. No wifi or cell phone connection so you are truly 'unplugged'. We rented kayaks for the week and did a lot of fishing and swimming. Not much else to do in the area but it was perfect for spending quality time and relaxing. Definitely recommend it!

UNSAFE HOMES, these homes are outdated, in poor condition, particularly the Phoenix. DO NOT STAY HERE.The phoenix was supposed to have 3 bathrooms that worked, well it had one shower that worked or that was safe to get into. One shower did not drain at all and the other you had to step onto a plastic slippery step stool to get into the shower UNSAFE!!!!!!

We were right along the new river, and watching the sun set from the back porch every evening was so special. Clean and welcoming interior, great location, and overall, a wonderful stay. Thank you, New River Retreat!

I was better off vacationing at a bee farm. We stayed at Red Hawk Rising early April 2017. The outside of the house was swarming with carpenter bees, wasps, and yellow jackets. I am not talking ground nests - these were coming from the house! You had to be around 75 feet away from the house just to have the bees not bother you. There were so many holes in the wood of the house it is clear they had this issue for some time. We had someone come out and they even they said this is really bad. So they send out someone who claims to be an exterminator but has never seen carpenter bees? He fills the holes with caulk (yeah right, that will hold for about 2 weeks) and place around 10 traps all around the house which successfully caught a whopping 2 dragonflies. I felt like a more experienced exterminator killing many wasps daily INSIDE the house. I woke up one morning with a live wasp on my bed. I could not even relax outside until it got dark. This was absolutely miserable. Unless you own a bee suit, please avoid this place. It looks nice from the pics online but was truly a terrible experience and not relaxing. This is early Spring. When summer comes, I would hate to see how many bees are around as well as in the house. Not worth the money at all and you should avoid. I would avoid all of these properties since management really does not care about their customers.
