Absolutely wonderful staff of ladies there this afternoon! The amount of care and concern they all exhibited during my difficult situation was exceptional! Thank you to Linda and everyone who helped my good ol' boy peacefully pass. I am very grateful!

KILLERS!!!! me and my husband went to adopt a puppy. we filled out the application and waited then had to have a meeting with the Director that lady is a monster, all the staff truly are. they don’t care about the animals at all. it’s all money and killing innocent animals for them. we did a meet and greet with the pup. we ended up bringing our dogs the moment we walked in the door we knew they was judging us. anyways they brought the dog in the room with our dogs all was leashed at this time so was the pup, the lady threw toys out the box without asking which was incredibly wrong because they don’t know how our dogs would act. my dogs obviously included the pup into the pack straight away, they was all fine playing without toys and on leashes, when the lady threw toys my dog of course wanted to play ( he is a bully he plays rough) i tripped on a toy and went down no big deal but it scared my dog that was holding on a leash while the worker let the pup go off leash and i of course know my dog very will around toys , i personally made sure my dog couldn’t bite or scratch anyone because he was already scared, they lied on my dog saying he bite the pup which is a complete lie if the lady would of saw that she should of picked up the dog right away but she didn’t she let them play again making it worse. then when she was done and tired she grabbed the dog and yacked the poor pup back to the crate . Let’s just be honest this place is horrible and the Director herself should get the needle because you lying on peoples dogs because you want to kill innocent dogs and cats is not cool in the slightest. but that’s OK. I went back to the shelter I used to work with and I adopt That was bound to get put down that day. If it was not adopted, he is settling in just fine

This place is nothing more than an euthanasia mill. 2023 save rates was 25 percent for dogs and 10 percent for cats. I don't know how the director keeps her job. She is a nasty piece of work! There is nothing HUMANE about this facility.

I wish I could leave no stars I can appreciate the process of trying to find an animal a good home but this is a little extreme not only did you lie on my dogs but your staff is not trained on meet and greet procedures for dogs and me and my wife felt judged from the moment we started an application you said my dog had attacked another dog which was a lie and I had seen the reaction of the staff when I came in to do a meet and greet with the dogs I already have I do not appreciate being lied to and I feel like the coordinator should not even be there if she does not know anything about animals it would be better if the process was a little bit easier for everyone and that staff took in consideration on what was best for the dogs instead of their personal feelings I plan on also filing a complaint with the city of Danville the coordinator should feel ashamed about herself

Our experience here was wonderful. We adopted 2 very bonded dogs about a year and a half ago. The director and every staff member that we met were pleasant and helpful.

IF YOU WANT YOUR DOG TO HAVE A CHANCE TO BE ADOPTED, LOOK ELSEWHERE. THIS SHELTER WILL KILL THEM WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT. A friend dropped her dog off last week (7/24/23) because they were moving and couldnt take her. I had intentions of adopting her by the end of august when I move into a house (couldn't take her while in an apartment). I called to see if she had been adopted and, if not, I could begin the process of adoption...come to find out they euthanized her NOT EVEN A WEEK AFTER BEING PLACED THERE. Do NOT put your dog here if you care about them AT ALL. They do not care to give these animals a chance--not even a shot. Not even a week. Not a chance for anyone to call. If I had known, I would've gotten her out the next day and she could've stayed with someone temporarily until i could take her. But no. They didn't even give Ella a chance--just decided to kill her after a mere FEW days of her being here. This is a TERRIBLE shelter and obviously does not care for any of these animals. If you cannot take care of your dog any longer...please PLEASE exhaust all other options before putting them in a shelter. And if that is not a possibility, then look for a no-kill shelter or AT LEAST one that will give the dog longer than a WEEK to be adopted. We are upset and grieving and anyone employed at this place should be ASHAMED. R.I.P. Ella girl 😔

cats went missing from thereit hasn’t even been that long since someone dropped them off.. Nov 30th missing then came to get them 12/04/2023 i visited there no one claims to have seen them when they had told me they have them and to come monday in which i did and the cats are gone and they switch their words up and say they never seen them when they even stated the name of the person who took them. Half explanations =Mental Confusion about your pet/s! Not helpful attitude seemed like I was bothering their day, dog all seem extremely unhappy there and like they are caged up all day, no escort to show you around or let you go in the rooms. AVOID HERE AT ALL COSTS! I HEARD THEY KILL ANIMALS HERE TOO SHUT THEM DOWN STOP EUTHANIZING ANIMALS

REMI I had called Rayne , was welcomed in after a phone call to assure they had a spot for her. They dont turn any animal away. Tho we'll missed she was too much to handle, for me being on my truck all day but she is a sweet girl, and even knows commands like sit with a morsel in hand and she loves head rubs while you speak to her or wash her face ... she will make a great family pet.. sure miss her.

I am so thankful to have a shelter in place for these animals. The shelter keeps the facilities clean and well stocked. Everyone has been extremely helpful and friendly every time we have been to visit.

It’s a long read!!! I am never one to leave a review I have actually never left one. But anyway here is our story on trying to adopt a dog. We went to look at dogs to adopt on 9-9-23 and we FELL IN LOVE with a dog he was supposed to be one years old he was a corgi – dachshund mix so we asked all the questions and decided to put our application in for him every thing went fine they told us to call back in 2 days so we called back and they told us to call back in another to days and we did And they asked us to come in to have a meeting with the Director they didn’t tell us what for but anyway we went to the meeting she asked us all the normal questions and then asked if our dog was neutered (he is not) she asked us why and we explained he is a house dog so there is no way for him to get a dog pregnant and it has never been a problem for him (she did not like that) so she told us that it’s “not her decision” it has to go before a Committee because our dog has not been neutered and because I’m 19 (witch Is understandable) so we said that is fine no big deal. After the meeting we ask if we can go back and see the dog before we leave and ofc she said yes so we go back there and i look at his card on the cage and it now says he is 3 years old and has pneumonia and kennel cough and that he is not eating so ofc we ask about it and she tells us that the dog has been at this Shelter before he was a re-surrender so obviously we ask why and she told us that the people who adopt him took him to a vet and were told he had lung cancer so they brought him back and they took him to the vet and it. Magically Disappeared….. 1 why were we not told about this from the beginning!!!! She told us she doesn’t know why it says on his card that he is sick she had no idea…….. PLEASE make it make sense!!! Mind you this is the DIRECTOR. She told us to call back in 2 days to see what the Committee will say so we called and got told to call back the next day. We call back and she explains that the Committee doesn’t like that our dog is not neutered and that he doesn’t have his flu vaccine his covid vaccine and his Bordetella shot all unnecessary(he is up to date on everything else). So she explains that the committee will only let me adopt the dog if we get all of the vaccines they want and have him neutered. So moral of the story is don’t ever try to adopt a dog from them. The director should not have that Job at all she is the worst!!!!!!

I am never one to post a review, but I believe in this situation it is justified. We dropped our dog off here because she wasn’t getting along with our smaller pets. They told us it wouldn’t be an issue and that it was likely she’d get adopted quickly. We called to check on her repeatedly and they said she was doing well. Only to call yesterday to find she has been euthanized. I am furious, heartbroken and grieving.

First time going here. So I got my sister to tag along. People at front desk not very friendly or informative. I was trying to ask questions about a puppy. Never got a answer. Got ready to leave told me I was 3rd inline for that puppy. I did pick 3 out. But I didn't call back to see if I was awarded the adoption. Because I felt I was going to be taken someone else's puppy. Sorry

This experience was a disaster from start to finish. I'm new here in Danville, Virginia, therefore, I relied on Google Maps for directions. The directions took me east on Riverside Drive which turns into South Boston Road, then after Main Street, make a right turn on Old Halifax Road and make an almost immediate right turn which took me into a metal recycling yard. It's extremely rare for Google Maps' directions to be erroneous, but it has happened to me in the past. At the corner of South Boston and Old Halifax there were vehicles with labels, "Public Works," parked at an unlabeled building. I drove into this parking area hoping for someone, or something, for assistance in locating the Danville Area Humane Society at 996 South Boston Road, but a man in a yellow truck completely ignored me waving at him from the driver's seat of my car. Then I called the Danville Area Humane Society and spoke with a lady that was sniffling throughout our conversation and who obviously was not listening to me at all. This ding-a-ling had me drive back to Danville which was a left turn off Old Halifax Road onto South Boston Road going back in the direction I came. When I told this dingbat I was at Main Street, she said that I needed to turn around and she directed me to exactly where I was when I phoned her: at the corner of South Boston and Old Halifax. She said that there were no Public Works vehicles there (there were and are) and she didn't know anything about Old Halifax Road, but insisted there was a Susie's car lot on the corner ~ there wasn't any car lot there that I could see. Then she said to drive up the hill towards the Adult Detention Center. Again no sign anywhere labeling any building Adult Detention Center. This dingbat had absolutely no idea how to direct anyone to where she was employed! She handed me off to someone else who directed me up a steep road (double yellow stripes delineating no passing ~ that's a road IMHO) and then halfway up at another fork was a blue sign on a utility pole that read, Humane Society, with an arrow pointing up above the words. After that there was the Danville Humane Society on the right which I learned later was almost a quarter mile from South Boston Road on Old Halifax Road, but the Humane Society's address is 996 South Boston Road! The dingbats at this place should have someone answering the phone that has the ability to direct customers to their location, as it's obviously obscure. I updated Google Maps with the correct location, but I was/am perturbed. Furthermore, the place is a pig sty! Flies, knats everywhere, and completely unprofessional attitudes at the front desk. No smiles, these morons acted as if I was interrupting their day and made me feel unwelcome. No escort to view their dogs, and when I complained ~ I was labeled the one with a bad attitude and was told that they felt that they would not be able to satisfy me. Leave, you're bothering us, was their attitude ~ we will treat you poorly and you better accept it, was their attitude. Poor cats and dogs are probably starved for love and attention at this facility. The ladies there have Zero personality ~ completely devoid of any human kindness ~ at least they showed me none.

Horrible customer service they give you the runaround for any kind of adoption they give you half answers ridiculous reasons and no fullexplanations behind why you can or cannot adopt an animal I highly recommend going anywhere else in the world. Who is directing this place and what are they doing

I’ve owned animals for years so I had vet information ready when I visited this facility. I live in the next county over and I was prepared to provide proof of neuter when my puppy was old enough. When I visited on Friday, the info card on my chosen puppy stated it was available for adoption.I went back Monday and the card had been rewritten to state it wouldn’t be available for another two weeks. When I questioned staff, they said they really didn’t know how old he was or his gender. Very frustrating!

Turned over a small adult cat of mine, due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to end up putting him to sleep, I wanted to have him cremated, but they said they had already taken him to the landfill, the dump... That just broke my heart into a million pieces,,, I know they do good work, but I didn't like the way that was handled.that is a picture of Fe♥️

My 3 month old puppy went missing and someone dropped him off there. When I went to check to see if he was there everyone there was so nice and concerned. But the bad stuff happened 3 days after I picked him up. He died. He started throwing up and diarrhea. He got worse and worse as the days passed. My heart is still breaking into. I'm sure he caught parvo while he was there. Because he was healthy until he was in that nasty dog prison.

This humane society is staffed with people with bigger hearts than the state of Texas! It's a clean, safe no-kill shelter with the healthiest of animals. It is run by a woman named Paulette Dean and she is the most loving, kindest, caring person you will ever find at a humane society. She continually amazes me by going above and beyond on a daily basis!

Theres a Moluccan Cockatoo, so sweet. I visit frequently because i love animals and it helps my anxiety. I asked about adopting her once and they were so rude. Apparently she was owned by someone who was getting "house renovations" done and they were keeping her.She was fully feathered when i started going there. Its been a year and several months and she is still there, i visited her recently just to see a huge gaping bloody wound on her chest. You can tell, how lonely she has been.ive never seen such a bad plucking problem as her.It makes me so sad seeing what was once such a happy, sweet, healthy bird start to practically rip herself apart. Please, if you're reading this, dont take this as a warning not to visit this shelter. Please do.Please pay attention to the parrots. They have the emotional and mental development of a 5 year old.
