I love to visit the store to stock up on my favorite anchovies and other miscellaneous items. Today, I decided to try the Berkshire sandwich for the first time, and it was truly extraordinary. It was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, and it seems like every visit to this place brings me new and amazing experiences. I always stand out in stores due to my appearance, and sometimes I am unfairly profiled in a negative way. However, the staff at this specialty store always treat me with respect and make me feel comfortable. I can't help but sing praises about this place - it's a definite must-visit in my book.Cheers!

Really cool deli & wine shop just 6 miles east of Crozet Tunnel. Indeed a great sandwich. Perfect for a post tunnel hike lunch. Should have taken a photo, but well, hungry.

Their sandwiches are well worth the wait. I love that they carry craft ginger ale from my home state of SC. Before I discovered my preference for maine root, here was the only place I could find Blenheim. AND, you carry maine root! Anyway, great coffee, and friendly staff.

I gave this place 5 stars before. Now not so much. My wife and I ordered online and when we went to pickup our sandwiches at the time they told us they were ready, they told us we would have to wait another 20 minutes. Reading other reviews indicates this a common problem.Sandwiches were not as good as they used to be. The Blue Slate is overpowered by the chili sauce and ruins the whole sandwich. All I tasted was a sauce that made me think I was eating a refried bean sandwich. Not worth the price at all. I had this sandwich 2 years ago and I gave it 5 stars. This is not the same sandwich from 2 years ago at all. I would never give this sandwich anything higher than 1 star now.The next day I ordered the Italian. It was just ok. Nothing to write home about. I don't know why Italian subs are served on rock hard baguettes that rip your mouth apart but please stop making Italian subs on rock hard baguettes.The third day I ordered the egg salad and bacon. What could go wrong with egg salad I thought. The egg salad was bland but they tried to spice it up with too much black pepper. If you can't make egg salad that isn't bland then maybe you shouldn't be in the sandwich business. Also we had to wait an hour for an egg salad sandwich which added an hour to our drive home. The staff wasn't that friendly either. Another common comment in these reviews.I don't know what happened to this place in the last couple years but it's not good. I doubt I'll be going back next year if this doesn't change. I know you can get better sandwiches for way less money somewhere else.Update 4/7/24: I am now downgrading to one star because I bought a bottle of half and half and it went bad in 2 days. I should have looked more closely at the sell by date. I bought it on the 30th of March and it had a sell by date of the 1st. It went bad on the second. I still have a cartoon of half and half from Wegmans I bought last month that is still good till the 24th of April.

I was in the area for work and heard about this place from a colleague. The Blue Slate sandwich was delicious! If I had more time I would have browsed the shelves as there were a variety of wines that caught my eye. While there I also purchased three chocolate bars and a small bag of chips and my total was $26. The sandwich was a little pricey but it was worth it.

Terrible customer service. I placed an order online with a specified time frame and then waited for an additional 20 mins without any acknowledgment or consideration for the order, and then when I asked if my 3-yr old could use the bathroom I was told to go down the street to BP. Unbelievable.

Lovely gourmet food shop at the bottom of Afton Mtn.I travel from Staunton to Charlottesville often, and stopping here is such a treat. Scrumptious deli, pots, pans, wine… flowers pots galore. A sensory delight. Best gourmet sandwiches anywhere. Sometimes I wake up dreaming about the Melrose.Pro tip: Call at the top of afton mtn (traveling 64 E) and your sandwich will be ready as when you get to the bottom.Highly recommend any prepared food items in the cold-case, the Melrose and Araucana.

Very expensive but their grocery curation is excellent. Sandwiches are really good, and solid wine selection…would definitely come back but their prices were outrageous high…$7 for a small bag of chocolate covered pretzels? $10 for a small sandwich with no sides? Ingredients were fresh enough but sheesh…prices aren’t even this high in NYC.

Friendly grocer on our way to Wintergreen..Great selection of local beer, cider, wine, cheeses, meats, and many other staples. Lots of vegan options and dairy free as well. Their prepared foods are good, especially the mediterranean pasta salad. They also make sandwiches and burgers to go which are also delicious. Support local businesses like this one!!

Great store with lots of unique items available from chocolates and coffees the local meats and cheeses. Some things were local other were not.This would be a great place to find a unique gift for a foodie friend. The beer selection was good and the staff was friendly. We would probably be regulars here if we lived in the area!

Mind boggling & varied selection of locally sourced food, wines, beer, & sundry mercantile offerings. Staff was amazingly personable & helpful. Definitely a must stop & shop location for locals & visitors.

Horrid service. Ordered on-line for pickup one hour later. Arrived exactly on time. Sandwiches were not even started. Waited 20 minutes for my order. Why have on-line ordering if you ignore it? I ordered three sandwiches and received two brownies "for my trouble ". What about the third person? They don't deserve anything for waiting? I'll never go back.

This store was recommended by a nearby winery for sandwiches and picnic food. The sandwiches were delicious, but they are pricey. $23 for 2 deli sandwiches, no sides, no drinks.I was shocked there are no restrooms available for customers, even though there is seating outside for eating food. I didn’t realize that was legal. They suggested we go a mile down the road to the BP gas station to use the restroom. 😱 I’m sure the owners of the BP appreciate that.The store is super cute with a great selection of wines.

The Sammy’s are delicious and worth the wait. And the Bearded Iris Homestyle reminds me of home. Only downside is that they carry Jeni’s Ice Cream. But that’s only a downside if you’re worried about getting fat off of ice cream. Which I am.

The two young girls working behind the counter were talking really poorly about my two little boys when I walked out of the store, they were unaware my husband was still standing in there. They looked like they saw a ghost when he poked his head around & looked at them. Called them annoying & they acted ridiculous, etc etc. Mind you, my kids are 2 & 3 that were exhausted from the heat & starving. They were whining a little not screaming. I spent over $30 on two overpriced sandwiches. Customer service is everything to me, & they lacked it. I fell in love with how cute the store looked & made a sharp U turn to go support a small business. I will never go back or recommend. If you can't be kind & thankful for the business you're getting from a mom of two LITTLE kids, you do not deserve my money or a kind review. So disappointing. Do better!!!!!

Stopped in while on a Sunday drive to pick up a bottle of wine for dinner and sandwiches for lunch. This is very well appointed high end market, but I must admit the young lady at the cash register wasn’t all that helpful and actually was quite rude. We waited and waited for our sandwiches and I finally had to ask one for the girls in the back of our sandwich status….. they were ready and had been ready!!! The Cash Register girl chose to ignore us. I will not go back for this very reason. I believe they called her Megan.

One of the most impressive roadside grocery/delis. I’ve had about 7 of their sandwiches so far and they’ve all been unique and amazing. Wonderful selection of craft beers, cider, & wines.This is a gourmet grocery with prices to match for most ingredients. However, the quality reflects the price.They’re open for in store shopping, with a mask, now!

Stopped here to pick up sandwiches while on a wine tour. The service we used for our wine tour (Norm's Transportation - the best in town!), suggested this local gem for our group. We ordered ahead and picked up sandwiches to take to the winery. Hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Everyone in the group was RAVING about them. I had the turkey, but they all looked fabulous. The store itself is adorable. It is a must try if you are in the area!

No public bathrooms, no place to wash your hands. They do have outdoor tables and chairs for dining though. Is this legal?I got a $11.49 sandwich with mozz, arugula and peppers on a baguette with no side offered. It was disappointing for the price. Place carries to much product for the space...no room for wheelchairs or strollers.Won't be back...

Had been wanting to try their sandwiches for a while now, but every time we drive by it was too early for lunch. Finally got our chance today and their sandwiches were really good! Husband got the roast beef and said it was probably the highest quality roast beef he has had. I got the Melrose with the portobello mushrooms. Very tasty! A lot of local items - beer, wine, honey, etc. Loved that they had a 44 oz of local honey, which I havent seen for local honey and veey reasonably priced. Will have to stop by after I run out of my local honey. There was ample parking since there was some to the side of the store, which we didn't notice at first. Also had a shady spot for eating our sandwiches. Will definitely be back again!
