don't recommend. Was racially profiled by a oversized manly looking women named AJ (owner)that was working on 04/27/24 at 11:15am .. I was interested in playing with a mini schnauzer. I then asked her to get the dog if possible . she then says only M-F & valid id is required ( btw I was with my little sister which was pointless of her saying that) or have to be looking to buy today .. remind you it was a white family that came in shortly before us that also wanted to play with a dog whom was sent to a play in spot .. never going back!! coward !! you need to be running with them animals or in the gym

These puppies come from a puppy mill!!! Just look up some of the breeder information, especially BJ and guys. I have been in this store many times just to check where these dogs come from and every single one comes from a mill. Do not shop to support the horrid conditions of puppy mills. They keep them in tiny filthy cages and breed them until they die. Puppy mill dogs often have many health problems and die prematurely. These puppies also cost at least 1800+. You can 100% find a local breeder where you will find healthier and cheaper dogs. Shopping here only supports puppy mills.

AJ is amazing! And so is the rest of the staff. It's clear they take great care of their animals and love them until they find their forever homes. Customer service is exceptional.

We came in looking for a Golden Retriever or a Goldendoodle and they just got 2 males and 2 females in of each. We played with all of them and the female Golden Retriever seemed to interact with us more and more willing to play. The kids loved her, the wife loved her, so... I loved her as well! We worked with Dillon during the transaction, the puppies just came in so they had to be cleared by the vet first so we had to wait until the next day to pick her up. We paid the deposit and he called the next day when she was ready. Dillon was an excellent employee and made a great impression. He left us alone with the puppies and would check on us randomly and would answer any questions he had. If you go in I would recommend asking for Dillon to help you as you know you will get quality service and he is a no BS kind of guy. You HAVE to take your new pup to their veterinarian to be covered under their in-store warranties at Bay Beach Veterinarian, so we did and it turns out we will be keeping them as our Vet! They are very attentive and friendly. Overall this has been a great experience and I would go back to Dillion any day when we look to expand our pack!

Went in and the way they take care of their animals is a shame. Most of the animals cages shouldnt be alone. And the cages they have the other animals in barely classify as actual cages. If you buy from this store shame on you.

Expensive! However I have a new family member that will give us years of Joy, Love & Happiness. Perfect breed I was looking for! I'm a fan of rescues, however , I did rescue this baby! As I think of it, it's not expensive compared to the breed I wanted.

Minorities.. PLEASE stay far away from this place !! Apparently African Americans are not good enough to interact with the pets. Shame on the owner !

In January 2017 we bought a puppy here, and have been disappointed in several ways with Family Pet.(1) She was labeled as a "puggle" (pug/beagle mix). As she has gotten older, her ears have straightened and now stand up, which is a characteristic of neither a pug nor a beagle. It is obvious she has chihuahua, (a breed we did not desire) rather than (or at least in addition to) beagle.(2)The store associate told us she would get to be about 30 pounds, however, the vet says she will top out at 12 pounds. A medium-size dog (which we thought we were getting) would have been a much better fit for our very active family of seven kids.(3)She has a significant under-bite, which the vet says is not typical of pugs, rather a sign of poor breeding.(4)Family Pet informed me she had one loose patella (knee cap), but it would probably resolve with age and strengthening. The vet informed me that she, in fact, has two loose patellas, and they will always be loose. This makes dislocations quite possible.(5)She was afraid of standing on the grass for the first few weeks, and we think it was because her feet were painful from standing on the wire floor in her Family Pet cage for weeks. We love her to pieces, but had we known all of this initially, we likely wouldn't have purchased her. We gave the store two stars simply because she is good tempered and has otherwise been healthy.Update: 4 months later and her age is now 10 months. The chihuahua in her does not have the patience we expected from a puggle. For a family with teenagers and toddlers alike, this is a big deal. Again, had we known she is part chihuahua and therefore not a great fit for small children, we would not have chosen her. We love her and are keeping her for now. However, should she become more impatient, we will find her a new home, breaking the hearts of the entire family. This would be a most unfortunate outcome that could have been avoided, had Family Pet Center listed her breed accurately. She does indeed have poor dental genes. As her adult incisors grew in, the puppy incisors did not fall out, but moved to the side and are very cramped. She requires very regular brushing because so much rawhide and stuffed animal fluff gets trapped between the teeth.

I purchased a bichon who had allergies and gum disease. He was a joy. He passed away May 15, 2023. If I new he had these problems I wouldn’t have gotten him, I sacrificed and took care of my baby. I had him15 year.

The manager is the worst kind of racist. This lady said “we dont allow people to play with pets unless they plan on buying one today”i said “i might buy one today, how do i know if i want to buy one unless i cant meet them”. The manager “well we just dont allow people to play with tje animals” i was planning to buy a puppy for my dog that i bought from there years ago. Im a black women, who can certainly buy a dog if i choose. But the manager would bot let me see any more than one. Meanwhile… the white lady next to me is playing with 3 puppies at the same time (all 3 dogs were in the little cubby with her)

Staff was absolutely amazing! Have always been very sketched out about adopting from them because honestly some of the pets just look sick. We bought two beautiful birds from here and as expected they're still settling in and nervous. But, the staff has been more than helpful with our journey with our babies!

This place is just horrible. My sister and I walked in looking for cool pet supplies for our dogs. Instead we saw dogs in small little glass cages. I don’t know how you are allowed to keep dogs there, but the place made me and my sister walk out within being there for one minute. The smell was absolutely awful as well. Animal control needs to be involved with this pet store.

What circle of hell is this? Shut this place down. Every dog looks depressed. Small cages, they don't seem to be cleaned. Lazy workers. I don't understand how places like this stay opened.

These people are so unprofessional. I drove 1 1/2 hours for a puppy i was promised and 10 minutes before I arrived at the store they let another customer buy the puppy I was promised. I was reassured that it would be held until i made the 1 1/2 hour drive to get the puppy. I was crushed. The dog was for my daughter. We arrived to the shop and the lady literally just gave the puppy away minutes before I made it there. Than tried to offer me this frail timid puppy, when the puppy i had drove down for was in the window just as playful and as loving as in the pic. I was devastated and my daughter didn't even know what to do. She was willing to get the timid puppy because we took all that time to drive down. I was not going to allow that or spend $2500 on a puppy i did not want. Unprofessional and bad for business. Would never recommend this place and the puppies dont even look all that great. Like something you can buy off the side of the road. Not worth the money. I'm glad to take my business else ware

They were horrible. When me and my daughter walked in, the two large size white women looked at us like we were some kind of criminals. they did not say hello or nothing welcoming. Then when we asked to see a dog, one responded that we could not visit with a dog unless we are buying it. But we observed a white man was visiting with a dog, and he did not purchase the dog he was visiting with. Straight up discrimination!!! We are black. And if not because of our race for some other reason. I will never buy a pet from this lousy store again and I have brought two puppies from them in the past. Those two employees were horrible and need to learn to treat all people fairly. It's your lost. We left and went to the Pet Store in Lynnhaven Mall and was greeted and welcomed and were able to visit with any dog we were interested in.

My husband and I visited this pet store often since we just moved a month ago on a search for a puppy. They always have puppies every week and a variety of them. We just recently adopted our new Australian shepherd and Keeshond mix 10 week yr old. Their pet visits and first shots all included into the price of the puppies. They also do holds to hold onto the puppy till you are ready to take them home for $100 a day, each day hold amount gets subtracted from the total that your puppy costs. Ivey and Sarah were super helpful to us with the process of getting our new baby. We love our puppy, she's healthy smart and very active.

This is the absolute worst place to buy a pet. I bought a miniature pinscher in this store that had to stay in the hospital over night 3 days after purchase. Turns out the puppy still had a condition that was documented as resolved by this pet store before purchase. This visit resulted in finding out that my puppy had a condition that would most likely take years off of my puppies life. I also had to take the puppy to NC state at my own expense for medical care. The shop didn’t want to refund my money, cover medical expenses, and also took the registration of my puppy away.

My husband and I just purchased a toy Australian Shepherd from here. She is very sweet and the staff was very helpful. From the moment we walked in, all staff members came to ask us if we were interested in seeing any of the dogs and to just let them know if we had any questions. Once we inquired about our pup, they promptly brought her out and let us play with her for a good while. One of the ladies, Kim, gave us her card to let us have some time to think about it and give a call back if we were interested. After talking everything over, we came back and decided to take her. We were informed that she had a slight tear in her knee that would improve over time and that she did have kennel cough which she was cleared on while there. We have yet to take her to the vet and proceed with any examinations. Shots were up to date, just needs her rabies shot and needs to be spayed as she is already 6 months old. We are happy with our purchase. The staff was great. Do not know why they received so many poor reviews previously but may be under new ownership. Will update review after vet appointment. :)

Walked in to this store for the first time yesterday and was immediately concerned for the puppies. They have them in small cages, some cages have more than one puppy, and most importantly...the cages don't have solid bottoms. I can't imagine expecting a puppy to sit and walk across these uncomfortable metal grids all day. After seeing all of the reviews about people buying sick puppies from here on top of my uncomfortable experience...I'll definitely be making sure PETA or ASPCA is aware of this store and the puppies conditions. PLEASE do not go to this store. Yes, the puppies are adorable but the best way to shut down puppy mills and pet stores who are only in it for the money, is to stop the people who are buying from them.

The puppies are in terrible condition. They are constantly walking on bare wire which damages their paws and leaves blisters. They are being fed through hamster feeders which do no provide adequate water for dogs. They're hardly let out of their cages, and I firmly believe this is a puppy mill shop. Please help report this place and get it shut down

I wanted so badly to get a puppy I fell in love with out of this place, but unfortunately had to consider the reality that these people are keeping puppy mills in business. Look up any "broker" you see on the cages there and you will see a laundry list of violations. It is absolutely astounding this place is still in business. The puppies are in the most uncomfortable conditions possible (wire flooring??) and now let’s talk about the bizarre policy they don’t have listed anywhere. I went in to see a puppy on Wednesday and asked the girl if I could see one of the puppies. She dismissed me as they “only let the puppies out on certain days” and some gibberish about vet recommendations and older dogs having priority. I have been in this store multiple times and I have never once seen an “older dog.” It is absolutely heinous to only let puppies play on 3 days out of the week and the rest of the time force them to remain inside these cages, lacking any sort of socialization or even fresh air once in a while. I leave, call back to inquire again about the puppy, and I get another lady telling me that the puppy play dates are Mon-Wed…meaning the first girl basically lied to me and wouldn’t let me see the puppy for some reason! She told me many people were also interested in the puppy and if I wanted to actually play with it I had better hurry in that night. I’ve heard from some people that the “policy” is Mon-Thurs so I’m not sure this lady was being 100% truthful either. Either way, this is absolutely ridiculous and I’m so concerned for the well-being of these animals. I know it is hard to not want to take the puppies out of this environment, but the best way to stop puppy mills is to not buy from them. I pray that one day, Family Pets will be better regulated and perhaps have shelter dogs or other animals there that actually do need a home, not puppies that were bred out of malice and greed.

When visiting this store for the first time, the puppies seemed in good health overall. I asked the staff if I could see a basset hound puppy and their reply was - we can only allow you to visit with a puppy if you intend on taking it home, otherwise no play dates allowed due to COVID. Honestly, that makes zero sense. How do I know if I want to take the puppy home unless I visit with him/her first? Animals have personalities that you don’t know or click with until you meet/interact with them. The staff wasn’t rude about it at all, but this scenario was very frustrating to me. COVID shouldn’t affect a visitation/play time with puppies that need a home. This store and franchise lost my business today and I will not be back.

I am absolutely disgusted that I still live in a world where places like this exist. The dogs are kept in small enclosed a on steel grates… there is no justification for allowing animals to be brought into conditions such as this, even if the time period be for a few days. Breeding dogs is not in itself cruel but allowing dogs to exist in conditions such as this should be criminal. Definitely a puppy mill.
