I had a fantastic experience with Great Outdoor Provision Co. today, as I have in the past. I called last week and spoke with Tim, whom helped me order AND install Yakima roof racks on my brand new Mazda. He worked very diligently to make sure that all of the measurements were correct for the fitting of the racks, taking his time to do it right the first time. I couldn't be happier!The interior of the store is brand new, and have a plethora of outdoor gear that they as a company are proud of to carry. Every interaction I had with the employees was positive and helpful.Thank you Tim and other friends that helped me today, I will be back!

Great selection and absolutely brilliant staff. There's no substitute for knowledgeable and enthusiastic people helping you find the right product. I might have saved 10% by buying on Amazon but would 100% have ended up with the wrong equipment. Seriously, buy your kit in person, and buy it here.

Yesterday I visited Great Outdoor Provision Co., and this store really has a lot to offer Charlottesville VA! The staff here are very friendly and helpful. I liked how the various departments were organized, so it was easy to find various merchandise. Thankfully, this store had a nice short sleeve shirt by Duck Head that I really liked as well as an attractive pair of Patagonia shorts. I ended up purchasing both items. Also, I am grateful this store has a very nice community bulletin board where I could post a few flyers for a property listed at Trice’s Lake in Cumberland County. Great Outdoor Provision definitely has a lot to offer for people who like the outdoors!

Beautiful store with a great selection of outdoor adventure gear and apparel. The customer service (resident pup included) is top notch. Drew spent a lot of time helping us select the best Yakima roof rack/SkyBox cargo solution for our vehicle and even helped us install it! Highly recommend!

Awesome place to stock up on the most up to date outdoor products and gear! We found some awesome brands that we live here including Prana, Birkenstock, Patagonia, KAVA, Chacos, Keen and more!Done of the specialty areas I noticed in the store wear bags for outdoor usage, sunglasses and hats for sun protection, and pet supplies to take you furry friend along with you on these Virginia trails!The staff is super friendly and helpful when looking for sizes, products, and even class information regarding upcoming events! I'm looking into the wilderness survival course!If you are in need of any outdoor camping, sporting, cooking, or fashion-wear, this is the place to go to!

I was on a bike ride around cville and I got a flat near Barracks. I stopped by this location and used their outdoor bike-service station to replace my flat. DREW (I believe) noticed me through the storefront window and came out to ask if I needed any help. He also brought a pump for me to use since the outdoor wasn’t currently working.I really appreciate his initiative and friendliness! I didn’t buy anything from the store, but I will definitely return in the future if I’m in need of any outdoor goods.

Great service! I was in a rush and got the wrong size shoes before a kayaking trip, and came back hoping to exchange. Most places would say no or only give partial store credit since I had clearly worn the shoes, but they set me up with the right size shoes and didn’t charge any extra! Highly recommend a visit.

Really nice store and great selection, really helpful staff. Knew their stuff. Worth avoiding the online time suck and just working with GOP in person.Just bought a new backpack from Drew and Tim, who were both extremely helpful as were all the other staff I interacted with. Wish I had skipped looking online and just gone here to meet with these guys first. Would CL have saved time.

I searched everywhere for a kayak and found this /store. I emailed store and they got back to me quickly about availability. I bought the kayak over the phone. When I went to pick up the kayak Tim told me everything I needed even helped me get it on my car. Then let me try it my self till I felt comfortable getting on to my car my self. Tim helped me for 2 hours working out the best way mount the kayak on the car. This was the greatest service I have had in a very long time! I will be back to do more shopping here because of Tim and Zack

The quality of service I got here reminded me to STOP shopping online and to STOP shopping at big box stores and support more businesses like this one! I was looking for a pair of lightweight hiking shoes, and I had some preconceived notions that would have caused me to spend $50 - $75 more on a pair that would have ultimately bummed me out. Drew provided completely amazing service. He helped me figure out the perfect shoes for what I wanted them for, and then he measured my feet and ALSO helped me realize that I needed a slightly different size than I thought. My mind was blown! I took those shoes out for a trial hike this morning and they were amazing. Ab-so-freaking-lutely amazing. Honestly, this is my new favorite store in the entire universe. Please skip the big box store that just opened in town, please skip online shopping, and go support these people!

I have been in the customer service realm for over 29 years, 6 of those years I was in charge of the customer experience metric for a privately owned business within the outdoor industry. This was my first experience with this company and I must say they have customer service down!! I live about an hour and 15 min from this location (Charlottesville)o and could easily spend my money locally in Richmond. The effort Zach and drew put forward made me want to spend my money with them. In the outdoor industry (especially in Richmond) I can buy most things not far from home. The difference between GOPC and other “retailers” both big box and mom & pops is simple. Customer service with a personable touch. It’s not complicated and it costs the company nothing but requires everyone on the team to model this behavior to complete the entire picture. I would imagine the management team models this behavior and has set expectations for nothing less than stellar customer service! Tim you have an awesome team so keep up the great work. Big thanks to Zach and Drew for getting me and my Hobie back on the water where we belong!!!Thanks again!Byron

Marissa was amazing!!! My husband and I frequent this store all the time and all the employees have been so helpful. Our most recent trip was to have our packs checked over before our AT trip. Marissa helped us with EVERYTHING. She was so knowledgeable and friendly and really made me feel so much better about our gear and our trip. She was the bomb!Would recommend this place 110% for anything outdoors. They have great selection of everything

Great selection with quality brands. Associates are all friendly and helpful but can be overbearing for my taste. I was asked if I needed help by 5 different employees in the span of 15 minutes which is off-putting when trying to browse. Otherwise good overall.

Recently, Zack assisted me with a warranty issue on a solar charging product. Zack provided stellar customer service and ensured that my problem was remedied as quickly as possible. Great job!

Some of the best, friendliest, most knowledgeable customer service around. Whatever your adventure entails, they will help you get set up with the right gear. Generous return policy if a purchase doesn't work out for you. Sometimes I find great deals on their clearance rack too. This place is a perfect example that you might save a few bucks shopping online or at a big box store but it will end up costing you more in the long run. When you walk out the door of this place, you know you have exactly what you need, that it's a good fit and that the quality is top notch. Highly recommend this place!

Absolutely recommend this store! The people are very helpful, nice, knowledgable, and patient. They spent over 45 minutes with me on the phone - patiently answering all my questions and staying upbeat - when I was interested in purchasing a kayak (mind you this was before I purchased, so they had no guarantee I'd buy). They also were not pushy at all and gave me real and helpful advice.Then when picking up the kayak, they spent over 2 hours with me showing me the boat, as well as teaching me how to load the kayak both with a partner and solo. I've been able to easily and successfully load the kayak solo multiple times while being a 5'3 and loading a 12' boat on a small SUV.Owe many thanks to Great Outdoor Provision Co. for a great experience. I'll be back!

Great store! Can't say enough about their customer service. The guy helping us in the Brooks tennis shoes (forgot to get his name) was amazing. I needed a wide size which they didn't have, but he was very knowledgeable about all the brands and was able to offer good suggestions. He was also very patient while I tried on the shoes they did have. Would definitely go there again.

I have an excellent experience every time I shop at Great Outdoor Provision. I love this shop for its friendly and knowledgeable staff and great deals. I have always been able to find exactly what I am looking for related to my kayaking, camping, hiking, backpacking, or traveling experience. Recently I was struggling with putting my new roof rack on my SUV and gave them a call. They made an appointment and my rack was on in a jiffy. It looks so great now! I recommend this shop to anyone who loves the outdoors and wants the best customer service!

I am absolutely blown away by the wonderful customer service I received while shopping for 2 kayaks for myself and my son during the COVID-19 pandemic. We began with numerous phone calls with Tim at the store to help me determine what kind and what features I needed, and having him help me pick out accessories over the phone. When I showed up for curbside pickup, Tim and Drew went above and beyond to help me install my new kayak roof rack, make sure I could load the kayaks by myself while standing by to give tips and help when needed, help me get fitted for a life jacket and a paddle and explain kayak basics to this paddling newbie (all while completely respecting social distancing)! They stayed past the closing time of the store to make sure I was comfortable, and even told me that if I had trouble loading the boats or didn't like them once I took them out a couple of times that I could bring them back!Absolutely so happy that I shopped here, will definitely be back for any outdoor sport equipment needs I may have! Thank you!

I went in looking for a birthday gift for my boyfriend. I was greeted by Katie who was knowledgable, passionate, enthusiastic and a joy to talk to. She made the whole experience so fun. She asked what my budget was, helped me find options, told me about her personal experiences using the products, then brought me pen and paper to calculate total costs. She took care of my every need and was really fun to talk to. I came away very happy with what I purchased. (A water filtration system and hiking maps.) Haha, this is more a review of Katie than the store. :) (The store is great too, very well stocked and so fun to browse.) Anyway, managers, I hope you know what a gem you have in Katie. She made my experience outstanding. It was the highlight of my day. I will definitely come back soon for holiday shopping!
