Outside it's an unassuming building but there's a lot of charm inside. Durty Nellys is a bar from the 70s and even under new ownership, the bar's ambience is timeless. It feels like your cool uncle's basement. There's live music almost every day. They had standard beer and some craft VA beers. Haven't tried their food yet - but I'll definitely come back.

Pub grub that satisfies.Gets pretty busy during the lunch & evening rush. Very popular workman's lunch stop. The Henny Penny wrap is a generous portion, and with a side of Beer Cheese, makes for a very satiating meal. The chicken is nice and thick cut with good condiments and complemented by their special sauce. The Beer Cheese made for a good dip. The seasoned crackers are also a nice added garnish.--This is a pretty close quarters location, both for parking and dining. So if you have concerns, you would probably want to take your order to go.--Men's bathroom was pretty rank.

Just had the Combo for lunch, my wife had the Reuben. Both were excellent! Quick service, very friendly staff. A Charlottesville institution for good reason. Prices are unreal. They could easily charge more. Just wish I had left some room for a slice of pie.

It's a fun locals hangout kinda place. Good music all the time! I've been coming recently for a quick lunch. In the winter it has one of the best fireplaces too!Vegetarian options: Several different veggie sandwich/wrap options. Parking: Generally it's easy to park onsite. However during a music event it might be challenging.

Delicious food at great prices! My wife & I stopped by for some food yesterday and was filled up when we left. Try not to come during the lunch rush. The parking lot is small and can be very hard to maneuver especially if you’re in a truck. Stop by here if you want great food!

I have been going there since the 80's. They have the coldest beer and the best sandwiches. The sub you see pictured is a dagwood. It has the most meat. Love the atmosphere here. The place has a store and a game room. OP

I placed an order to go over the phone. I asked for extra dressing on the side of my Monte Vista and didn’t get it. My sandwich was so dry after waiting an hour to eat it that I couldn’t enjoy it. Unfortunately, we were 25 minutes away by then. I can’t believe we paid over $25 for two sandwiches and I didn’t enjoy my $11 choice. . They don’t even offer the sandwiches I used to like especially the Country Gent or the Lady Godiva. To the grocery store we go! I’m not wasting good money.Wheelchair accessibility: Not very accessible with the uneven brick floors.

Great spot. We love finding little, local, hole-in-the-wall places. This is a good one. Wood burning fireplace, which was nice on a rainy, chili day. Both Matthew, the waiter/bartender and the lady making the sandwiches were very nice and attentive. We enjoyed the food and conversation. My husband got the Hot Sicilian which he loved! Said the hot pepper relish made it. I got an egg salad sandwich which was delish. Will definitely visit again when we’re back in town.

Not a lot of parking but if you get there around eight pm like we did we were able to get a spot without a problem. But it sure is filled up by 10. The live band for the night was great. The customers all seemed really friendly and we're talkative. The crowd was very mixed meaning old and young students and retired people and everything in between. Very inviting definitely an older dive bar type environment but I would definitely go back. The drinks cost less than most places. I only had soda and it was $2 for a large glass the mixed drinks for affordable as well.

Seemingly the most hidden gem in town (100% not a bad thing) Super homey, amazing food, great atmosphere, literally no actual negatives or negativity which is rare! My father in law is a regular and got us to check it out, try their nachos or stop at the deli! Live music with a crowd that DANCES too! Super neat. If you wanna sit back, relax, and have a beer alone or with friends, try this place out. It's an overall fun place and quite charming

First time here, but boy was I impressed. You don't come here for the atmosphere or the ambiance. Parking is cramped, and inside is a bit of a dive. However the steady stream of folks going in should let you know you're in for something special. I had the Pastrami Reuben, and I was not disappointed. What an amazing fresh deli taste. I did order a side of coleslaw and was surprised at how little I got. Literally a tablespoon! Outrageous. Sides need to be more generous than that. Had to deduct a star for that, otherwise this would have been a perfect lunch.

We went for the local songwriter night (Koda's Coral) and it was fantastic. There was tons of people signed up to play music with a sizeable crowd. Yusuf the bartender is always personable and Ni (spelling?) Is always on top of whipping up sandwiches fast as hell. The scene here is really laid back and even though there is new ownership, it's sticks to the classic vibes that have become tradition for charlottesville over the years. Update: this place still rocks! Always felt unwelcome here. Been in this neighbourhood for almost twenty years and this place has always had a bad vibe. Don’t come here if you are a mere shade off-white or look funny in any way. You’ll just get cold shouldered. Used to play the pinball machines before they took them all out. Awful awful service and demeanor.

Customer service left a lot to be desired. There were a lot of problems as well: they were out of at least one of the menu items, the prices were inflated greatly beyond the amount of food we were given. A trainee was on duty, so I understand some of their issues. But the manager who was working with us seemed stressed or not on top of her game.Our meal - a few subs, chips, and some sides - was a standard long dine-in wait. I stress the long. Food portions were small, but the taste was quite delightful I do wonder what was happening behind the scenes that led to this disappointint experience.The presentation of the deli was pretty low quality as well. A window displaying 2-liter bottles for sale actually was a different store. The attached pub was fairly neat, but the overall experience was poor for the deli.tl;dr Okay. Very good food, tavern aesthetic next door. Rest was poor, but maybe it was outside of their control.

Constantly great music. Deli has fantastic sandwiches. Service & Best bartender in town, plus a wide variety of beers featuring local breweries and imports ! No place better in Charlottesville to warm up next to the fire on a cold windy night and listen to good music

Stopped in late very hungry, apparently everywhere shut down at 9 due to covid and we had missed dinner. The lady working was one of the nicest people we have ever met. She had already closed down for the night and was waiting for her last customers to leave. She still offered to make us some sandwiches and they were fantastic. Thank you so much!

My favorite hangout place with friends for a night of drinks peppered with long conversations and awesome live music. The atmosphere is nice for a relaxed evening. I only wish the deli was open for longer hours.
