My husband and I have adopted two fun and loving cats from here. All of the staff were extremely knowledgeable and gave us all of the background information needed. We are so happy that we could give these two fur babies their forever home with us. We have had Achilles since he was 6 months old - used the safe room technique and became best buds with our dog (mini golden doodle). They love to play with each other and often cuddle! We just adopted Aegon on Friday and are currently using the safe room technique again. Aegon has been introduced to our dog and they get along great, Aegon is also playing with Achilles. To anyone looking to adopt I highly recommend using the safe room technique - it truly helps the fur babies acclimate to their forever home. Amazing workers at this facility, you can tell they love what they do. 10/10 would recommend.

We adopted a very sweet pit bull from here last night. He as adapted very well in 24 hours. And we’re very pleased with him. This shelter is amazing and so is the staff. They were all very knowledgeable on all the dogs they had. If someone didn’t know about that specific dog another one did. They made me and my daughter feel very welcomed last night! Will be recommending them to everyone!

I went in to visit the cats yesterday hoping to find a companion for my cat (that I adopted last year from the C-ville SPCA). However, there is a new policy that cats cannot be removed from their cages. The volunteers could not tell me if a cat was friendly with other cats since the cats are not allowed to interact together. The cats are locked in their cages all day. This cannot be in the best interest of the cats.

It’s heartening to see a place with as much care and respect for animals as the Cville SPCA, it’s a really blessing to the community!

We adopted this sweet girl about a month ago. She had a terrible start to life but is absolutely amazing and had made herself right at home with my daughter who has special needs and my daughters emotional support dog. The staff was so attentive and did absolutely amazing with her rehabilitation.

We adopted a dog, Millie, earlier this month. The staff and volunteers at CASPCA were the kindest, most caring and involved that I have ever experienced at a shelter. We could tell right away their love and passion for all the animals. They helped talk us through everything with Millie's background and even offered for us to borrow a crate when they found out we didn't have one that would suit her. We are so thankful to have Millie and are so thankful to CASPCA.

I am volunteering with cats here so can speak regarding them. The shelter is a clean and happy environment. The cats are well cared for and happy.

Love this place and the people there! Highly recommended after having tried other shelters. They made the process easy and matched me with my best friend Timon! I emailed them the night before and received a message in the morning saying that they had the perfect puppy for me and they were right. The best part is that the SPCA drove down to New Orleans after hurricane Barry and saved him along with others. Thank you SPCA! I couldn't be happier.

I got an adult cat named Lady here during the promotion for free adoption. All of the animals were well cared for and come spayed, vaccinated and micro chipped. You are left wishing to to take them all. The staff is super helpful and sweet. We went to look the first visit and came back the next day to pick our cat up. On the way out the doors the staff where all smiles and congratulation for me and my new kitty. It felt very special. If you need a pet you will find one here!

We had originally heard some people having bad experiences at the Charlottesville SPCA. I haven't heard that it is difficult to adopt from them, even though they say that they are at times. I have to say that we had the complete opposite experience. From the day we walked in and the original SPCA handler basically interviewed us after we had our paperwork done, we were worried that they were judging us and thinking that we would not be able to handle a big dog. The other three small fur babes that you see in the photos are our original dogs. We have had them for years. We were worried that adopting a big dog trouble and that they wouldn't get along. Our small dogs have big dog friends, however we have never taken any big dog.I could not stop thinking about this white pit boy since we met him on Sunday, 3 days ago. Yesterday I called and set up a meet and greet with him. The meet and greet with our other dogs, the SPCA workers decided that they did not need to do a home inspection, that we are good and responsible pet owners. They told us we could take him home with us. That we did.He is beyond happy. We are elated. To all who took care of him, trained him and helped us with this process... THANK YOU. ❤ I have a new running buddy. His name is now Griffey.

Overall, the organization's purpose is a good thing. However they are painfully bound by exorbitant fees for adoption. It's almost as if they are a profit driven corporation. I paid $250.00 for a common hound that most shelters can't give away. It soon became apparent that this dog simply could not be contained by any fence. He also chewed through several thick leashes used as leaders on a dog run. I wrote two desperate emails to the SPCA explaining my stress and worry in trying to contain this animal as I am 63 years old. They ignored both emails. He has escaped daily causing Crozet travelers on busy Rt. 240 to pull over by the dozen trying to catch him to no avail. Twenty hours later I received a call from a man that finally caught him.I brought the dog, Bradley, his shelter name, back in and was turned away for an additional highly stressful 5 days. Their excuse was they had no room for him and I needed a formal appointment to return him. I made an appointment but I decided not to give him back to them so they could make big money on him twice. And who knows, maybe even 3 or 4 times. I politely asked for a refund or partial credit towards another dog that I could handle and was told, "No Refunds".There's lots of good dogs for free on craigslist from people that don't treat dog adoption like a business with hopeless bureaucratic procedures and Executive Directors. The low level employees and volunteers at the CASPCA do have their hearts in the right place. But at the top, that's another story.

Terrible experience 1 star is too high for this place how are you going to approve somebody getting a pet and say you don’t open until a certain time and give their pet to somebody else I’m front of them before it was even open?! We were told it was ours to pick up and we drove an hour away on our day off to pick it up yes we have the screen shots from the conversation the night before to prove that you said we could pick the pet up at the right time the manger was rude and didn’t seem to care at all also to make things worse our beloved family pet passed away just few weeks ago and we were looking forward to this so thanks for nothing!!

I have adopted multiple dogs and cats from CASPCA and have been super pleased with their support. I have found lost animals & unfortunately had to give back animals that weren’t the right fit with my other animals. I have fostered and found the foster care people amazing. The vet clinic is also awesome. I also love that they save so many animal lives from Texas and the Buckingham County animal shelter. They are all angels for what they do!!

From the first year to 14 years later Sniper has been our best addition. He gave us almost a total of 14 great years. Not needy nor selfish, mean nor angry. Just this big gentle giant. I knew he was getting slower and had less control but didn’t want to have to make the decision and he didn’t make us. He passed away last night in his sleep still leaving a broken heart in his wake. We had no idea what or how we would deal with his remains. There are options but most are beyond the grasp of middle class or lower income families. That doesn’t mean we are lacking in any way as great owners. We wanted to give him the respect and dignity he deserves. Charlottesville Albemarle ASPCA didn’t take any time nor haggling about money just told us to bring him in. There were fees but nothing like the hundreds of dollars to just walk in the door of some of the local Veterinarian offices. Others wanted to charge extra because of his size. This is the last thing you want to deal with after your loved one passed. I can not say thank you enough to your kindness and the excellent staff that took care of our sweet sweet boy Sniper!!!!

Terrible experience here, they claim that if you're a veteran you can get a dog for no charge. We tried, they want you to pick a dog that's been there for a while. We're looking for a buddy for a 1.5 year old Pit mix. The first one we met it didn't work, she, their dog was way too aggressive. Now today they have pitbull puppies so we thought we'd try that approach. Only to find out the pups aren't available to Veterans for free, it's $325. My wife and I have been involved with several rescues when we lived in CA and their main purpose was to find loving homes. Apparently here in Snobville it's all about the money!!

OMG, I can't imagine a better shelter. Just adopted my 3rd dog in 5 or 6 years, a Pit/Pug, a Catahoula mix from NOLA (look it up, State Dog of LA), and now a Blue Heeler/Pit mix that I've had for 2 weeks. I foster for them too. Much respect 🙏 much love ❤ to CASPCA, especially Katie, in charge of adoptions....

Excellent place to get low cost spaying & neutering for your cat or dog.Currently, they have a program to spay/neuter hounds & pitbulls for free. Also, they do free spay/neuter for feral cats/kittens (Catch & Release program)The personnel are polite & efficient. Thank you staff & volunteers!

Much better experience this time around, with the newer staff. We had a great time talking to the kind volunteers and learning about the different cats available for adoption. The application process was smooth and the workers were great about explaining the adoption contract to us. Very pleased with our experience and thankful for the work the volunteers and staff are doing!

Two years ago today I adopted my dog from the Cville SPCA. Marley was the best decision I have ever made! I didn't go there expecting to fall in love with a small chihuahua mix, but I did! Since I was not expecting to come home with a dog, the team at the SPCA helped me select some essentials, gave me the dog food Marley was eating and her favorite toy. She was loved by the staff and they celebrated her adoption as we walked out the door. A great place with people with loving hearts.

I called multiple times, no one answered. I finally got a chance to go there 20 minutes later and they’re all just sitting at the front desk talking… someone could have answered the phone and saved me a trip all the way across town.

Adopted a great new family member. The no-kill center does everything possible to care for the different discarded pets on a limited budget.

So much great work being done here! Come visit the sweetest cats and dogs Charlottesville has to offer. There is little places you can take pets to play with them and get acquainted before you make your decision. It's a really great experience regardless of if your adopting a pet or not. The staff is super polite and helpful. Just the kindest animal lovers around. Definitely visit if you love animals or take someone who does.

Adopted my first pup this past weekend and the staff was lovely and answered all my questions. They sent us home with antibiotics for his Lyme disease free of charge, and provided lots of resources to get us started taking care of him. The staff is very friendly and certainly care about what they're doing.

Wonderful people work and volunteer here!! Definitely see these folks for your next furever friend. Michelle is amazing. They also have tons of things going on. Like spay/neuter clinics, shot clinics and other items. They also take food and other pet products.

Super staff, super volunteers, and great organization performing a valuable community service. Recently underwent some renovation and capacity increased. Nonetheless, many animals you see on the website are actually in a foster home program, not necessarily at the shelter. Call ahead to make sure you can meet the animal you want to adopt! New management has boosted the organization to even higher levels of excellence.

The managment before the recent change was horrible, and it got a bit better but its still very bad. As an old coworker here, I can confirm that some of the staff are extremely rude and treat everyone except customers with nasty grins and yelling and insults. An old woman named Donna is a prime example. Since the first day I came in, I've witnessed her talking down to my previously new coworkers and supervisor, and the next day being a victim of her rudeness when I was yelled at for something I didn't do. Apart from some rude staff, my girlfriend's appointment for her cat to be spayed was canceled and gave her no reason. The dogs are living in poor conditions with some of their kennels being smeared with their mess and not cleaned until midday, water not being given to them in the mornings, and more than half of them not taken for morning walks because of the lack of staff. If the management changes again for the better then more people will want to work here and it would be better for all the dogs. Very filthy place to work physically and mentally.
