We stayed at a local KOA which we highly recommend, part of our ventures brought us into this quaint small town. The beach is lovely and has beautiful sunsets. Lots of places for great photos. Even though there were a few events, the crowds stayed manageable and the people were respectable. Never at any point did the population feel overwhelming or on the verge of unbearable. People were cordial and laid-back. The vibe was great. There was a noticeable sewage smell near the end of the street where the road ends at the beach entrance, yes its right near the porta-potties as one commenter noticed. It is definitely not the potties but something in the sewer right there. Not sure but hopefully it is a temporary issue. It was not overwhelming but noticeable.

The beach is perfect. In April it is still cool, but beautiful. The town in April leaves a lot to be desired. There are 3 coffee shops and two bakeries. The bakeries open only on the weekends. On Tuesday there was literally not one place open in the entire town to get a cup of coffee. On Wednesdays there is one coffee shop open at 9 but there was a line by 8:45 and all of the outdoor tables were full before it opened. Tuesday night there were two restaurants open in the entire historic district and both had more than an hour wait. So my advice is that if you come before May there is nothing to do besides the beach. The water is too cold to swim and the fishing captains say the fish aren’t biting. There are only 6 stores open in town during the week and they were very cute but we had gone through them all in an hour,

Visited with family last week. I was stun by the shops and growth of little cape Charles, so very charming. We ate at the Shanty restaurant.. excellent food and location beautiful. My family history goes back to 1889. Karpa family of Polish descent bought a house near Catholic school and church. My grandmother was born at that house in 1904, last of 9 living children. My mother grew up there til family moved to Newport News maybe 1940. We continued to return to visit by ferry til bridge completed. Family buried in old cemetery… brought Mom over on Mother’s Day in 2011, dinner on the boat dock. The locals said stores are closed on Tuesdays, although several were open (the day we recently visited in October) , still had a wonderful time. Look forward to Spring and summer and a stay over weekend, beach beautiful. So much family history. ❤️❤️

I love cape charles. This place at the water front is very quiet and clean. Also on the summer weekends this food truck called GORDO'S is the best you can ask they have authentic mexican food with fresh ingredients and also have fruit

Amazing small town tucked away from big city yet just across the bridge. Small golf carts zipping by because it's so small. It's alive during the summer. Beach is small but amazingly clean and calm perfect for kids. This haven is for retired folks during the winter, like Florida without the humidity and hurricanes. Seems everyone knows everyone here.Perfect place for families, kind and friendly folks. Expensive to rent or buy.

Walking on Mason to the beachfront, I almost vomited from the sewage smell. It wasn't the portable toilets because I caught a whiff of those as well. Such a shame. Otherwise a cute place with nice shops and places to eat. Beach is interesting, with shallow water and little hermit crabs everwhere.

Beautiful but very small area. Great for visiting. Needs more (and better) parking. Beach goers and those wanting to stroll the main street compete for parking with locals just trying to go home. Area has really grown in businesses. I love the little shops, especially the Candy Shop, Tim's Place and Deadrise Pies. Cape Charles is the new place to be!

We always enjoy visiting this small Beach town on Chesapeake Bay. There have been many old houses remodeled over the past 10 years. New businesses also which helps with tourism. We LOVE the Cape Charles Coffee House!

Cape Charles is a wonderful place on the Eastern Shore. We sail here often from Deltaville, and love staying at town docks. It has great boutique shopping, wine store with free tastings, incredible ice cream shop, hardware and general store. There are many great restaurants in which to choose, free family and pet friendly concerts in the central park on Saturday evenings, A small farmers market is near the museum where I purchased the best arugula I have ever had. A little further is Cape Charles Brewery, which we quenched our thirst after a long bike ride.We have bikes on board so can ride and explore the many hidden gems of Cape Charles. For those who boat or sail, there is a cab service that can take you to the winery which is about 17 miles down the rode and is worth the visit. Chatham Vineyard, I believe... has a lovely outside area for kids to run around and play games including cornhole boards for the adults. Just cannot say enough great things about this wonderful sailing destination.

I just love Cape Charles for it's small town charm, golf cart living and clean little beaches. A great little gem to visit and so close to world class golfing, fishing, boating and romancing.

As someone who grew up in a coastal community loving it, this town makes me feel at home again. Visit once and you'll want to stay forever like we did.

23 long years I've been spending my summers here. 23 years, and I can tell you no matter how much the place changes, it always stays the same. Breakfast at Rayfields, beers at the pub, and beachdays all days.

Charming small costal town with quaint owner operated shops & art galleries selling quality goods. Good eateries as well as local brewery, distillery and hard cider mill. Well worth a visit!

Stayed in a home built in 1913 one block from Central Park, great concert venue. Lovely refurbished homes, ordered on Sears and Roebuck at the turn of the 20th century, shipped in by train, built by artisans, absolutely lovely.

Very nice small town. Some historic buildings around. There's a small local bakery, pharmacy, brewery, distillery, a couple of churches, playground, restaurants etc. Great place to visit with family.

We were in Cape Charles 15 to 20 years ago, and it was very run-down ..... not any more ! Great rejuvenation of a historic port town. Great food scene, too.

Quaint with a small town feel, dotted with massive historical structures. Decent selection of local shops and restaurants. Good for a nice walk around during the day.

Friendly and quaint. I do wish a few stores had longer hours but owners and employees do deserve some rest time.
