What are a great outfitter. I just completed my second trip with this outfitter and it was perfect. We did a 37 mile three day two night canoe trip with them. From start to finish they are top notch. The campsites are great and well suppied. Highly recommend this outfitter.

I've done a 2 day 1 night and a 3 day 2 night glamping and both were so much fun! Zelda had a blast!Beware of ticks. I pull 10-20 ticks off the dog but that's what you expect from camping in the woods.

10/10 for this amazing venture. Everything was arranged so well and every little detail was taken care of. The maps given along were so well made and the glamping sites were very well taken care of. It felt like we had nothing to worry about, except from paddling from A to B and not getting wet feet. On the way we were lucky enough to see otters, turtles and even a bear!My dad asked for some additional information on the AT trail and the owner’s wife Emily went out of her way to gather information and a map for his trip.This was an adventure my dad will never forget. I will definitely return.

My friends have been making fun of how often I write reviews. So I had to write another one. I have done two Twin River Outfitters trips over the last two years. We did the trip from Eagle Rock to Horseshoe Bend for camping and then back to Twin River HQ both times. Both times were excellent, but I will note that this time the process improved even more. Once our group of 14 people arrived, we went to a debriefing room to talk through the route, safety precautions, and ask any questions we had. We were also shown a video of one of the rapids that gives people a hard time (Richie's Falls). This was so helpful, considering the first time I went on the trip I struggled with that Class II rapid. This time I knew exactly where to go and felt much more confident in my approach. You also get a very helpful waterproof map to show how you should approach certain rapids and where landmarks are. The campground is really nice. You get a great view of the river, there's plenty of dry firewood, and a porta potty on site. There are multiple spots to exit with your kayak to reach the campground, which is also helpful when you have a big group. The customer service is great and every single person we encountered was so friendly and helpful! We happened to be there on a very rainy weekend and a few folks didn't feel they could continue on the second day of kayaking. So the staff were very accommodating and picked a few people up from our group and also took our extra bags. This was such a relief considering we brought so much stuff for a big birthday party (and rainy conditions). When I was done I decided to buy a $20 t-shirt from the welcome shop. I earned it! Plenty of bathrooms, life jackets, dry bags, and of course kayaks and paddles are provided as well. There are also a few restaurants within walking distance in case you want to grab a bite before ending your adventure. I will definitely do this again.

Second time here. We had such a wonderful time tubing on the James River. We laughed ourselves silly because we had so much fun. I'd highly recommend this adventure. Maybe next time we'll try camping overnight with them for a canoe or kayak trip.

Nice location along the river in a great little town. Looking forward to using their service for an upcoming overnight paddle this spring.2018 update.So, if your looking for a multi day river float with camping included this is a no brainer!We did the 3 day run from Iron Gate back to their store in Buchanan.The safety film before we left on the shuttle and all the employees were nothing short of impressive. During the shuttle ride up, they stopped at all our camping spots and made sure we knew exactly where to get out along the river. They were concerned about the quality of the water in the river, even though I brought filtration and gave us 6 gallons of water for our 3 days.Their campgrounds along the river are right on the water and what you dream of for camping. Free ambient noises for your sleeping pleasure included. If anything, they could improve their bathroom facilities.Now the river;Great class 1 and 2 rapids on our 3 day run. Twin Rivers gave us wonderfully detailed waterproof maps for our route as well as campsite information. Lots of locals fish this stretch of river and seem to navigate those class 2’s no problem, so don’t let the technical part keep you from going. My novices on our group had no problem with the named rapids.This is your float trip if your in for a multi day.Do it!

PERFECT weekend on the upper James River thanks to Twin River Outfitters. They think of everything so all you have to do is paddle and enjoy! The maps they provide are excellent and the scenery can't be beat. Highly recommend this slice of heaven!

We booked the Eagle rock to Buchanan trip and had a great time. Twin river outfitters is a well organized, well run outfit. Friendly staff and locals. The shuttle driver shared lots of interesting things about the river and the area’s history.All the resources you need are available. Accurate easy to read maps. Very nice campgrounds. Walking throughout, We found group sites, hammock specific sites, and well laid out tent pads. we paid for the firewood option, and it is worth it. Plenty of dry wood all split up and in the shed. We cooked steaks over some nice hot coals. I would definitely recommend Twin river outfitters to anyone. We do plan to return.

3 Day 2 Night 38 miles river was 2.4ftHad a great time 29 fish landed, lost a ton, caught an 18 inch large mouth was the biggest. And drifted over some monsters on the way down.Done a fair amount of canoeing in the Shenandoah but by far this was way way better of a trip with less hang ups. Was able to navigate thru all rapids and took the larger rapid falls down the middle lane. Great trip great time.Did see otters in morning of Day 2 and minks Day 3, Bald Eagles, crane's, great blue, wood ducks, deer and may other birds.

This place is absolute amazing. We are new to river sports and had a great time. They have high quality tubes that don't puncture easily. We went kayaking for the first time and they gave us detailed instructions so we would have the best safest trip. The staff is amazing. We will definitely be back!

We have been doing canoe camping trips for over 30 years and Twin River Outfitters is the best Outfitter we have ever used. The service in outstanding. We used them to provide shuttle and camping for a week long canoe trip. The campgrounds are clean and well maintained. The owners and staff are professional, responsive, friendly and well informed. We plan to come back and do the trip again sometime in the future. I strongly recommend you use Twin River Outfitters, if you are planning a paddle on the upper James River.

Great experience. They are well outfitted and knowledgeable. We got on the water for 1 overnight stay quickly, and they provided canoe, water jug, dry bags, life jackets, and paddles. Check-in was smooth. The entire trip was great with a nice campsite. They were right on time for the pickup to shuttle back. Would book with them again.

The kayak trip was a lot of fun! A quick safety and introduction brief followed by a quick van ride to the start point. The trip was a lot of fun and didn't feel like it was unsafe at any point. Definitely bring sun screen for the sunny days!

My wife and I have gone canoe camping several times with Twin Rivers and have always had a great time. We most recently did the three day, two night trip and everything was perfect. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, from checking in and getting set up with dry bags and water, to stopping along the way up the river to show you where your campsites are. The maps you get have lots of detail to help prepare you for the various rapids, none of which are particularly difficult. The water this last time was a little low, so we did get stuck on a couple rocks, but nothing about the trip would require more than the bare minimum of paddling skill. It's nice that you can go as quickly or as slowly down the river as you want.The route has plenty of spots to pull off and swim or picnic on the shore. You pass under tons of abandoned bridges and other interesting sights. Even in the middle of summer we rarely saw many other groups, and even if you do, it's easy to speed up or slow down to help feel more secluded.The camps have clean portable toilets and come stocked with firewood. The camp sites themselves are a bit more cramped than we would have preferred, but wasn't a problem.

I live right up the road and when I need a water break I just reserve myself a kayaking spot and come float. Right now the water is too cold to get into so I'm looking forward to it warming up so I can cool down when I get to hot. The staff here are amazing and you'll just have the best time floating with Twin Rivers.

I went tubing for the first time in decades with my grandkids. We had an awesome time. Everyone at Twin River was very nice and helpful. The river was very calm with just a few areas of very slight chop. Highly recommend this adventure for anyone 6 - 100! We went twice... You'll have a great time.
