Living in a big city like D.C., a “general store” sign gets me every time. After visiting nearby Great Country Farms, my little family stopped by Bluemont General Store. Although it has general store vibes, think of it as more or a corner store with essential goods like soap, spicy sauce, and mac and cheese boxes. The more charming sections are the $1 hardback books, the soup corner, 50 cent candy necklaces, and the local kids books.Service is kind and the space is easy to navigate.

What an oasis in a very rural area. I was riding my bike in this area since the gravel roads around here are fantastic and beautiful. I stopped in here to replenish my water and refuel. They have everything here at this general store, even fresh sandwiches and hot soup. Next time I will come and try the ice cream since it was cold when I visited. I highly recommend stopping in here if you are in the area and in need of a bite or refreshments.

If you remember when general stores stocked what people want to buy and not just stuff with a long shelf life and a high markup, then you’ll love this store as much as I do. It has tons of quirky little snacks and things you don’t see on many shelves anymore. Really hope it doesn’t get replaced by another booze and lotto tickets “convenience” store.

Free parking and very interesting set up. This place has a lot to offer. From ice cream to WD40, from books to eggs. You named it.Also a deck with a small free library, pick your book and read it.Be sure to drop by for some ice cream or fun shopping.

What a hidden gem of a store. They have “everything” you need in a general store. Most of all they have the BEST ice cream for the next 500 miles! Would stop by this store whenever you’re in the area, you will NOT be disappointed. Enjoy!

Store seems nice, but the review is for the chickens. I bought some laying hens from them. Website says $12 a bird, sign in the door of the store says $16. I had to pay $16, what ever wanted the extra egg supply without the wait. Well three weeks later still no eggs. They need to update their website and not sell laying hens until they are laying. Employees were nice and accommodating, the store is nice too.

We love this little shop! Lots of yummy treats to choose from including homemade food and old fashioned candy! They have glass bottled milk that is delicious! Definitely worth stopping at and enjoying a treat on their cute little patio.

Excellent stopping place for bicyclists. Reading ginger beer is interesting, and the home style oatmeal raisin cookies are first class. The porch gets midday and afternoon shade.

What a great little country general store. Excellent variety! We got a whole key lime pie. It was amazing! Highly recommend a stop here! Even if it is just for a hand dipped ice cream or some pie! You never know what you will find!

Such a community treasure! Walking in is like stepping back in time. It’s favorite place to stop for ice cream on a hot day or a bowl of chili on a cold afternoon.

I stopped by the Bluemont General Store for the first time today on my birthday. I was absolutely disgusted by the fact that 5 innocent chickens was caged in a very small dog cage inside the store. The small cage was obviously designed for a small dog. My husband and I could tell that 5 chickens really want to get out of the cage. They look very suffering, uncomfortable, and hungry. They can't even move because the cage is too small. I felt traumatized as a customer and I won't come back again.I do not support animal cruelty at any kind. I urge the owner of this business to immediate remove those 5 chickens and place them in a proper chicken coop cage. It's not okay to make animals suffer at all.

Stopped in for ice cream and the store was awesome. It's still set up like it was years and years ago. Had many flavors of ice cream to choose from and got to sit on their front porch and eat it. Met lots of nice people, can't wait to go back and try a sammy.

Quaint shop with some fantastic Fry Pies! The clerk was super friendly. She made me and my family feel very welcome. We got ice cream which was super creamy and good, and other treats too.It was so good my in-laws drove an hour back the next day just to get some more Fry Pies.

Great small town general store. Reminds me of the only store in town where I grew up in rural Maine: a free little lending library, great snacks and treats, and super friendly staff. And just like that store in Maine, it's a central hub for life in the area, with folks using it as a place to see their neighbors and friends. Worth stopping in for a treat if you're in the Bluemont area.

I bought a quart of ice cream, it is amazing! The store is great with all the charm you would expect from a quaint little town general store. The only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that the only bathroom they have for use is a porta potty, but its hidden away in a solid structure. All in all its a great spot, I will be back

A traditional country store filled with eclectic items alongside all the necessities one might need. Lots of farm fresh and organic milk, eggs, and meat available. Candies, chips and all kind of snacks. There are always options of hot soup ready to eat, deli style sandwiches, pie, tons of ice cream to choose from and much more. Very friendly staff always ready to help a customer in need. Come in and brush elbows with the locals!

Great little general store dating back to 1846. Generous scoops of Hershey ice cream in cones or a dish. Nice stopover on your way to Bears Den, Appalachian Trail, or the nearby brewery or winery. Highly recommended.

I love this store because of the old time feeling. The staff are as always helpful and show the best hospitality. I have purchased live chickens in the past. Good food and a bustling lunch rush makes for awesome people watching. You won't be disappointed if you need some time travel.

If you're anywhere close, you HAVE to go in! Anything you might need they have from fresh matter chili and soups to ice cream, and farm fresh hard boiled eggs. I know this sounds like an ad but I was super impressed. Owned by two vet docs and a very sweet store manager who is extremely helpful and even makes the said soup there....super neat
