I still think their deli is the best deal in town for a quick bite to eat. Even with prices going up some, you still get a ton of food for a reasonable price. The grocery store itself, though, is a mixed bag of good deals and overpriced. Just be a smart shopper, use the value card, and look for coupons. What you can't get here for a good deal is often less at Walmart.

My husband was looking for a used vehicle and we ended up in Big Stone Gap. I was pretty hungry and wanted some variation other than restaurants so I decided to eat at the Food City deli. Well that was the best decision I made all day. The deli was amazing. I had macaroni and cheese fried okra and beef stroganoff with a roll. I got me some bread pudding and Oreo delight off of the cold bar. With that said it took me about 20 minutes to make a decision because EVERYTHING looked and probably was so good. I usually go to Big Stone once a week and clean my building so you better guarantee I will be at the Food City deli eating off of the bar or shall I say bars. 🌟⭐💫🌟⭐💫🤩

It's the ONLY grocery option in Big Stone Gap what choices do we have without driving? Prices are ridiculous most staff are great but occasionally they'll have some smart butt manager or big wig in from outta town and in those instances I've had some negative issues with 1 or 2.... Meat dept great, Starbucks great, Pharmacy great, Most staff great Food Chain itself and Prices unexceptionable.

Some really good prices, but now that WalMart is gone I've seen them jack some prices up because patrons have no place close to comparison shop. And the prices in BSG are higher than Wise 😔

Went to pick up a few necessities. Not very friendly management. Kind of short tempered cashiers. Great baggers. 8-19-22 Update. Service much better. And selection much better. Update . Clean store. A lot of new hire young people, friendly but seem like they would rather be somewhere else. Still not very stocked. Update 9-24-23. Much better atmosphere. But this chain has the highest prices of any grocery store and I visit them all. If it on sale I don't buy it.

Would be better if they did something with that lobster tank in back. That thing stunk up almost the whole store. The closer I got to it in the meat department, the more it stunk to the point where my appetite was just gone. I catch crawfish for fishing bait and know the smell. That tank was horrific,nasty, and makes me question everything else in the meat department because it is definitely enough stink to hide the smell of other meats going bad.

Food city is a decent grocery store. It's selection tends to be pretty good. They do have good deli and fresh meats. The reason I am knocking them down a few notches is because the labels for gluten free items is hit or miss. It feels like they have really slacked on this in the store. Living in a household that constantly looks at labels for gluten free items it helps when a sign marks items already gluten free. Kroger, Publix, and food lion all do this very well. Food city also looks to maximize their profit margins by selling 2 to 3 brands of foods they own. In doing this it's impossible to trust any of their food brands. Having a good tested for gluten is expensive and I can't recall a single food city branded item that is marked gluten free. So having other big name brands that have been certified aren't in their stores.

Way over priced with the economy the way it is! And do not get hurt on the job and have to go out on workman's comp, they will run you down the road and not get anything done! Horrible atmosphere in general! 👎

Why doesn't food City let you buy money orders with a debit card? I can go to a register and get cash back a couple times and get enough money I need in cash to buy the money order. A debit card is as good as cash these days. The money is automatically pulled out of my account. Food City pays a fee on every single transaction that takes place so instead of paying one fee for the debit card, and I'm NOT referring to a credit card, they would have to pay multiple fees for every transaction that would need to take place for me to use cash. Food City is the only place that doesn't take debit cards in this fashion. The post office even told me that they realized how silly it was to not take debit cards because money is automatically pull out just like cash. What is the difference? Think about it food City. You're spending more money by not changing this policy. I understand that you can't use credit cards for that but why can't you use a debit card? You offer cash back for a debit card

We come to big Stone pretty much every weekend, and unfortunately where we live doesn't have any Food City stores. One of my favorite things about visiting Big Stone is being able to get things from Food City that we can't find in other grocery stores. The prices are amazing, and the store itself is clean and organized. The main complaint I currently have is the self check out and how it's been moved around. It makes it annoying to actually get into the store, and if there's too many people I have to go all the way around all of the check out lanes just to get to the left side of the store.Otherwise, the building and parking lot is conveniently placed and easy to get to, and the staff is all very kind.

The workers all seem super helpful and friendly. Everytime we've been to this location everything looks very clean but there are gnats on everything, in the donut case, swarming the produce, and the salad bar. I think it's more of a building maintenance issue instead of carelessness or uncleanliness, but I'm still not comfortable getting any type of produce, salad, or bakery/deli item.

Store's always clean and we'll stocked, MOST of the employees are courteous and helpful. The Boston program for local school's is a wonderful program. The negatives are, prices are WAY TO HIGH, the gas is not the best. Not sure why, but I have never got good gas mileage with their gas, regardless of the vehicle I'm in.

Nice people work there! A little hot in store. Like no a/c in there. Feel sorry for employees. Prices a outrages. They have a monopoly in the area unfortunately. So people need to eat go to Wise food city it cheaper cause they don't have a monopoly up there because there a wal mart super center and a grocery outlet down the road so the keep prices reasonable.
