This happened in approx 2009-2010, but still disturbs me to this day. My families’ 2 rambunctious 9 year old German Shepards ran thru their electric shock collar barrier, probably for about the third time in their life and we always managed to call them back or chase em down but the last time we must have not been home or distracted, bc they made it to our neighbor’s property and we didn’t put tags on them. They left in perfect health, then they ended up here and my dad had a lot of trouble getting them back; it took about 2 weeks of bureaucracy & paperwork proving the dogs were ours, we missed them terribly and we finally got them back horribly sick. Their noses were dripping like a river, terrible cough, weak and shaky clearly suffering it was so sad. We took them to the vet twice who said it was a “kennel cough” like humans get the flu and to wait it out and they will recover, we treated them like a sick family member made them rest and gave them the best care we could, but first one passed about a week after coming home and her brother died about 2 days later. Absolutely heartbroken to this day. 3 stars bc I hope it has improved with the spreading of illnesses & pray this hasn’t happened to anyone else. Also other times we needed animal control services they were helpful

Intake officers were very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the process when turning in a stray dog. They were gentle and welcoming to the dog I found. The facility and pens that I saw were clean.

Let me tell you how cute it was when I called to make a lost pet report, that the girl taking my pet's information cracked a joke about my pet. Yea, it was awesome. Glad to see my loss is her entertainment.

Almost adopted a dog this weekend. Unfortunately the dog was cat aggressive. The staff was unbelievablely kind and took the time to see if the dog would work with cats. 5 star guys awesome job!!! We'll have to keep checking back for updated dogs 💔Also there is a great DOG PARK located next to the shelter!! Has a " time out" and benches for parents!

Went to 4 shelters looking for a dog for our family and this is the only one that would let us in to see the dogs. I understand COVID is real, but we have 5 young children (8 yo and below) and it's already hard enough to get a good grasp of a dogs personality when taking them out for a bit with 5 kids surrounding it, I can't imagine doing that by looking at a picture. Unfortunately the dogs that need us the most are suffering because of this and I was happy to see at least one shelter in my area realized the same thing.

I recently adopted a precious pup from Hanover. He is a true dream. When I arrived to visit the dog I came to see was outside waiting. After less than 10 minutes I knew he was the one. I filled out info, signed for him and was handed my new doggo. I had noticed some spots (hot spots) on his legs when there at Animal Control. I took him to the vet the next day because that is what one does with a new animal. The vet told me that he was having an allergies, the hot spots....he had a U.T.I., & he was having sinus issues. For the past 2 weeks we have been working to undo a lot. I have been to the vet 3 times and we are still working on getting him to 100 %. I spoke with Andrew (Manager)Hanover Animal Control and asked if there was anything they could do to help. His response was no, and that I could surrender the dog. I mean come on. Before you adopt make sure your animal is checked out first......and to think he went to the vet to get fixed, but not treated for anything else. Sad, sad facility.

We adopted a kitten and were not allowed to take him home until he was nuetered. In the mean time, they let in cats without quarantining them and our kitten got an upper respiratory infection. 2 vet trips later, we found out he also had worms. These people neglected basic care for the animals in the shelter. Thankfully our boy is home and healthy now. We really did rescue him.

If I can give these jokers zero stars I would. Last August my mom called them to help getting her chickens off of her former home (long story) so she called Hanover animal control and they were very helpful on the phone but when we got there the guy who was post to help me with the chickens was a total jerk. He was very rude and insensitive to me. Instead of helping me get the chickens off the property he just sat in his car the whole time while I was in 98° temperatures and tore my favorite shirt. These people aren't worth my tax dollars.

We adopted a kitten from this animal shelter everyone there was very kind and because the kitten was so young they explained how we should feed it and made everything very easy and you could tell they really care about the little furry friends

They have a recording that asks you to leave a message and someone will call you back. I did that and waited two days before calling back again, only to be told, "Oh we don't have an answering machine or service; we don't know where those messages go." So, if they KNOW they can't retrieve a message, why do they ask you to leave one? Very exasperating, especially if you're looking for a lost pet!
