Bought a large carrot juice, got home took a large gulp and threw up right away. Checked the date and it's 2 weeks past expiration. Went back to store and they said I needed the receipt, tho I pointed out exchanging it was the least of my concerns and how could they sell something so long expired??I told them I threw out my receipt when I bought it so they made me go through the garbage to find it, which I did and found it so they finally let me exchange. No apologies, no making it right. Just an absolutely horrible experience. From now on it's whole foods or trader Joe's. Shoot, even Walmart or Giant over this place.

As visitors to the US and our first experience of a Safeway, we were very pleasantly surprised. Good selection, good prices and friendly helpful staff - in particular the kind lady (apologies for not getting your name) at the deli/food counter who happily went out of her way to help us.

Recently remodeled, there is now more selections of grocery, produce, bakery and deli, with everything new! Even a new bakery and deli were put in!Bathrooms were even remodeled. Checkout lines much improved with self checkout, no more waiting in long lines!

If you live in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor you have (5) "major" options for groceries. (3) are "on line" and central to the corridor and (2) are slight detours. Each is a bit different and has unique pros and cons.Central:- Safeway (Rosslyn)- Whole Foods (Courthouse/Clarendon)- Trader Joe's (Clarendon)Detour:- Giant (Lee Highway)- MOM's Organic Market (Lee Highway)The Rosslyn Safeway was recently renovated into a fairly decent store. Pros:- It’s close to the majority of the offices in Rosslyn and convenient for those working in the area for lunch or grabbing groceries on the way home.- They offer free, 1-hour validated garage parking.- There’s a Starbucks inside that often has a much shorter line than the other two in Rosslyn.- Solid wine and beer selection at decent prices.- With the renovation they’ve added self checkout kiosks (finally, welcome to 2020), a hot-bar area, better baked goods selection, better fish and meat market, "FreshPet" refrigerated, natural meat and veggie pet food kiosk. Across the board, they've increased the number of items available and their quality.- SunTrust ATM, Locksmith in a Box Key Copy machine, Coinstar machine- The staff is also generally pleasant (Gary is an absolute saint) and they’re open until 11:00 (one hour later than any other store in the area).Prior to the renovation, this was barely a functional store. I previously lived near the Georgetown/Wisconsin Ave. Safeway as a student and it’s brand new in a great location with plenty of parking and a wide selection of high quality items.Living in Rosslyn, even when this Safeway was the closest grocery store, I would often avoid it because it was dirty and their stock was hit or miss.Since the renovation, it’s gone from non-functional to sufficient. They’ve gotten a lot better with their stock of overall items, including fresh produce. Their pricing is still a bit on the high side (especially for fruits/vegetables) for what you’re getting. Not quite as expensive as Whole Foods but significantly more expensive than TJ's or Giant. Need to add more carts, especially the smaller, half-sized ones.If it’s late and I need a few quick things, I’ll head to Safeway. If I have the time and am more thoughtful about my shopping and what I’ll be cooking for the week, I’ll head up to Trader Joe’s.

Do not buy any seafood from here! Like many other reviews have said it goes bad quickly and it’s a waste of money. I believe they’re lying on their package dates as well. Wish I could give a zero.

They need to examine their dairy dating practices. The saveway brand milk is almost always mislabeled, and will go bad weeks before it's expiration date. They also need to stop running the diet soda promotion where you have to buy 6 liters to take advantage. It leads to them being constantly sold out, and nobody wants to carry that much liquid back to their apartment.

Strategic and convenient location. The self-checkout cashier was attentive and helpful to everyone in the line. This safeway always has fresh produces that don't disappoint, and complete salad and hot bar. Prices have gone up throughout the years but there're always weekly deals, and meat and fish on sale. I want to highlight the store manager who went above and beyond. I was tired from being sick and did not have enough grocery to count for a cash back. He graciously helped me although it was my fault. Thank you Sir for showing kindness in my low moments

I am the type that rarely goes but when I do I go big. I love the fresh produce, the Strawberries this winter were the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen, and was a little sad that once summer hit the picture perfect strawberries had seemed to be replaced with well ones that were a little sad looking but even so still good because they get depleted rather quickly. Also it’s often painful to see many items completely gone and remain so for quite some time like oddly enough my favorite snack chocolate coated rice cakes. I’ve also noticed some items that are not even sold at this store all together which can be a bummer like, peanut butter Cheerios, cake in a mug, and molasses soft cookies :(. Other than that I like the convenience of many locations, fresh foods, cleanliness, and Im always delighted to see my savings at the end through there rewards program and weekly deals! I would also add that almost all employees are efficient, helpful, friendly, and that I rarely ever wait in long lines or have to to be at check out for long. I am amazed with how knowledgeable, organized and quick the cashiers are and I am never treated as a inconvenience like some other store employees have acted towards me, it’s even refreshing to occasionally we asked how I am and if I found everything ok. It’s safe to say I’m a loyal and long term Safeway shopper. I would recommend Safeway as a great place to shop!

I'm giving this Safeway an improved review by 1 star. I think in the almost 3 yrs that I've been here, the offerings for prepared foods, bakery, and florals have improved appreciably and so has the friendliness of the staff. I had one really nice guy search all over the store to help me find the Kitchen Bouquet recently. My main complaints with this store are these: (1) that they do not always have a full-service checkout line in the mornings. I'm sorry, but I am not going to buy a full week or more of groceries, with produce to weigh and count, and then check it out and bag it myself. I'll walk out of the store and go to the Safeway (or Giant) on Langston Boulevard. (2) Sometimes shelves are bare in places. I do realize that with the pandemic, a lot of stores are having issues with keeping certain items stocked. Me? I'm missing my America's Best popcorn.

Has most things you would need. The fresh produce section is quite well stocked. There's an extensive wine rack, I wish Sake was available (the site shows it but can't find it in the shop). The sushi is underrated, give it a try!

I would give zero if I could. In the morning went there with my wife, we came to cashier for checkout but we forgot to say hi to the guy maybe he was so mad 😠. Thanks for his help let me pay for the groceries. Well , I need to confirm the parking ticket and I saw a cloudy face there no human reaction at all 😂. My favorite shop everywhere in the USA. Club card is very helpful, yiu get discount for everything. Fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, sausage, cheese, drinks, snacks, medicine- you can find everything for friendly prices. I love their shrimp salad, cheese cakes, croissants, soup and many other stuff!

Don't ever drive to this store. After parking in the garage and shopping, I found the elevator gate locked, and couldn't get back to my car. Nobody could actually open the gate. I couldn't take all my shopping bags down the stairs. So some nice guy watched my stuff until I got my car. BUT. I had to pay $8 for the stupid parking because apparently the 1HOUR limit was passed. Worst shopping experience ever.

This place is very expensive. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of money on a few items. One thing I really dislike is that lack of clerk's running checkout. Oftentimes there'll be a single clerk performing checkout or none at all. This forces customers to have to do self checkout which is always a terrible experience.I think this place is sufficient for getting some bare staples or couple of items but I recommend going to MOMs instead.

Absolutely waste of time unprofessionalism is unbelievable I spend hour and 25 minutes to send a WesternUnion transaction and it took so long because of miss information that the worker gave me ! When I approach to the counter, I asked the worker. Hey I submitted online transaction do you guys take cash or debit card? He told me that they take cash and debit card so I waited. It took almost an hour and 20 minutes for me to find out that they take only cashThe money I supposed to send if for emergency situation and it was crucial for me to send it that day but unfortunately I came around 6:35 to the store and now it’s 8:08 talk to the manager Dir Jung I spoke to her over the phone because she was off that day, and as I understood some angry customers calling her on her off day the unprofessionalism is on charts to get rid of me. She just start finding out excuses and just simply been annoyed with me I swear to god I’m am a religious man I don’t get angry easily but OMG how ppl can be this ignorant I just don’t understand

Safeway have great prices and I really like the $19.99 for 4 packs of meat under the special that they have which may consist of shrimp, chicken, ground beef, sausage, beef, steak, pork, seasond meats! They have vegetables that are special variety priced.

I don't understand why this place has bad reviews. This is a great store that has a great stock of items. The store is usually pretty clean and everything is fairly priced. I love that they have free garage parking and you can get in and out quickly.

It's small, and like most small stores, they have to prioritize their available space. They seem to have most things, but there just isn't a lot of selection. There are some items I like to buy every week that I can't find there, so that's why I don't shop at this location frequently even though it's closest to my home. However, I think their fresh fruit and veggies always look pretty good when I visit. And the bakery items are tasty. Because the whole neighborhood caters to area workers, it's never very crowded on weekends for residents. So that's the opposite of most stores.

The place has food shortages, lack of fresh produce, food that expires within days. It’s no frills on price, but no frills on quality. It has a lot of issues with selection, quality in foods. The lines are abnormally long, the staff have attitude, no desire to help you find things.The hours are lousy. Yes, it’s true that it’s convenient via foot traffic, and it’s not a full size Safeway, but still, it is very subpar. It feels like a bodega, not a true grocery store.They do deliver food, which is helpful. But that’s about it

As of 11/09/2022 I hate this place after they so-called remodeled, and this place is in chaos. None of the signs over the aisles describe what's in the aisle. In some houses household goods cleaning products in the same aisle with food. The store is a mess and whoever decides to do the so-called renovation should be fired. I go to the Safeway across the bridge into Virginia to buy my food now.

This is hands down the worst store I've ever been to.- Small and variable selection (unless they are keep moving stuff around, which they also do)- Personally seen multiple instances of rotting produce on the shelves. By far not the first one either.- Slow restocking time, many instances of empty shelves- Outdated interior, bordering on non-functional.- Long lines, almost every day. Sure there is a normal after work rush, but there isn't even an attempt to open more check out lanes or put more staff on the schedule around that time.The only redeeming characteristic is some of the staff is quite kind as long as you can make it through this hell of a store without being totally grouchy towards them when you finally make it to check out.This is completely unacceptable for any store, but especially on that is doing exceptional business. There is no less than 10 apartment buildings in walking distance and they have no other competition. (no the new Express Target, isn't close to a replacement to a full grocery.)This store needs a major overhaul.Where the is Corporate? 40+ Google reviews, 110+ Yelp reviews all both average below 2 stars.

We quickly stopped in for some ingredients for dinner. Unfortunately one of the items wasn't ringing up and it took a while for someone to run and find the price. The rest of the checkout process was rather slow but the service was friendly, and they even scanned a members' card for us to give us a discount.
