While the staff is nice and there is a good selection, this Food Lion has an interesting and unsettling crowd. People in Pajamas and shower caps, a man screaming into his phone in the parking lot, etc. There is a 24 hour ATM on site.

Their weekly ad runs Wednesday through Tuesday. The Deli offers a good selection plus they have fresh chicken rotisseries daily. They even have a wing bar that is great for a quick lunch. The produce has a nice selection of fresh daily cut fruit for grab and go. If you don’t want to shop, go online and order and they will have the “To Go” team do the shopping for you! They do not have self checkout, you will actually have a human being to interact with. They offer a lottery scratch ticket kiosk and a Coin Star machine. This is a great grocery store and most of the employees work very hard.

I took my service dog in here one day just to get some Creamer and a woman who work there stop me and ask for my papers ,ok I showed them to her and she still keep on giving me a hard time ,I haven't been back since and I will not go back. Terrible place

We go here every week and I will say it has went down hill, at least the produce section has! Very spoiled, old, yucky section. The rest of the store is still grand though

It doesn't suit to ask anyone at this location about stocking a new item. Over the summer, I made requests in 3 different departments. The kindest reply I received instructed me to shop at Kroger where the item is already available.No one at this location is friendly or courteous. The cashiers rarely say "Thank you".So, maybe I should just shop at Kroger.

I like the organization of the store. We receive a small amount of WIC and Food Lion has the largest selection of qualifying products. The people are friendly and the customer service excellent. They strive to meet the needs of the community and have succeeded. My rating has been upgraded from 4 stars to five because of the consistency in their management and the quality of their team.

I would rather go to food lion than walmart for two main reasons. Walmart is only ok early the the morning before the crowd. I also refuse to use self check out. You want my money check me out.. The staff in altavista is very friendly and helpful and I have never found a nasty bathroom there. The deli is very patient and helpful. They aim too please.

Nice selection and clean store. Staff is friendly and helpful when you have questions. It has its busy times with lines at times, but they do what they can to move you through. Open 7am to 11pm for your shopping convenience.

It's a fine grocery store for a small town. My family just wishes they had more vegan options. My little girl loves her vegan grilled cheese sandwich but all they have is the go veggie cheese which by the way isn't completely vegan and it's disgusting. Offers lots of morning star products, but also not vegan. Though I do hear morning star is going vegan. This small grocery store is probably still selling their in stock items. So as long as you're a meat, dairy, and egg eater, you'll be fine just not exceptional.

I like the new layout of the store, especially that some of the shelves are lower. When you're only 5 feet tall shelving over 6 feet high leaves me at a disadvantage for top of the shelf items.My question is what happened to training cashiers? Are they not trained to put specific items together? I put my groceries on the counter in the way they should be and I want them bagged. I may be old school but hot and cold items don't go in the same bag.Neither does a loaf of bread or produce get bagged with something that will squish it. I rebagged half my purchases as the cashier continued to scan my purchases. I had to ask for the bread to be bagged separately.The store is always clean and those stocking shelves helpful.

Total rang up before MVP card scanned. This is second time has happened. They told me to go to customer service where associate informed me he would have to unbag all my groceries. Last time it happened, they rescanned only MVP products. I had a cart full and needed to get home. Most of all of my groceries had some type of MVP markdown. Not sure how much savings. But for $100 bill, probably significant. Very disappointed.

We are moving and ran out of boxes. The gentlemen working in deli meats seafood and produce were most helpful in getting me boxes unlike other businesses I enquired at. I have noticed the Altavista Food Lion has great customer service! Thank you!

I have lived in this area for not quite 2 years and I must say that today's visit to our local Food Lion in Altavista was a disappointment. Since this is the only big box grocery store near here, other than Walmart, I would expect a pretty decent selection . However, the deli at this Food Lion is terrible. The small selection of meats and cheeses hardly warrant having a deli section. Another constant issue is that upon check out I always have to beg the cashiers to allow me to use my own bags rather than pack my groceries in those horrible plastic bags. I always feel it is an extra burden for them to pack my groceries in my bags. I hate those small, thin plastic bags. A year ago this store seemed to have a much better selection than now and the people working there were much friendlier. It is sad that there is no other decent grocery store in this area. Oh Kroger, where art thou!!!
