This store has been my dog's favorite place to go on Mt. Vernon Avenue, and I always loved taking her here for a treat. The staff have been extremely friendly to us both.But lately, the owners have put up a bunch of signs opposing Zoning For Housing, our city's attempt to address the ongoing housing affordability crisis.And as a relatively recent resident of Del Ray, these signs tell me that the owner of The Dog Store does not want me here.They don't care about my family and how hard it's been for us to scrimp and save just to barely get a place to live. They wouldn't care if we were priced out of the region forever. They don't care that so many of our friends already have been forced out. "Del Ray is full, go away" is the message these signs send to me.(I wonder how many of the always friendly staff are paid well enough to live in Del Ray...)I can't in good conscious spend my money here anymore. I can't support a business that screams in my face "YOU AREN'T WELCOME" every time I walk by.

Neat little pet shop! Annabell was super nice and a pleasure to meet during our first visit! Lots of toys, dog and cat gear, and quality dog foods. Was a little sad on the small selection of refrigerator raw foods they carried but everything else was great! They even have a rewards program with their dog food! We will be back!!

This place has a big selection of chews that are not available anywhere else. My dog loves them! We live an hour away now, but still go back every once in a while to stock up

Great selection of toys, treats, food and supplies. They also have a small selection of cat items! Prices are comparable to what I’ve seen on Amazon, so shop local and help a small business. :) The staff is friendly and they provide helpful recommendations that actually work.

I went into this dog store with my girlfriend after a few margaritas and the dog salesperson was extremely helpful. She assisted us in finding our part good boy part beagle a new toy for his new home in del ray. We appreciate their customer service and professionalism in helping out dog find a new dog toy. Highly recommend!

You won't find a better place for your puppy. They love them as if they were their own. It's like being in a indoor dog park but only better. Because all dogs go through an evaluation so you can rest assured that all the other dogs are friendly. They are well supervise. If you board your dog here. why you're away they actually sleep in the room with the staff member they watch TV as if they were at home .Best place ever. They get to play with all their other friends while you're away. It's like a mini vacation for your dog.

I love the dog store located on Mount Vernon Ave. A year and a half ago I adopted my gentle beast, lucky the golden retriever. I walked in and wanted to make him as comfortable as possible due to him being a pandemic puppy and his previous owner not having time anymore. My teacup yorkie and I welcomed him in, with new toys and all. Last year , I purchased a bear, fluff and tuff brand, and boy did it last. It’s lucky’s favorite toy, but after almost 2 years together , he finally destroyed the squeaker. On 8/22/22 I walked in around 12pm-1pm and a wonderful young lady helped me out. I explained that I needed the same bear … destroyed and all lucky would not allow me to take it away to discard. No luck, however this young lady knew exactly what I was referring too and she showed me the same brand just different animals. I went with elders the elephant from the fluff and tuff collection. When I got home , lucky still bummed out that his bear no longer squeaks, was introduced to the elephant and away he went. I love the dog store , I have always had an amazing experience with them. Even when I was gifted my teacup yorkie and knew absolutely nothing about teacup or toy size dogs (only labradors ) they assisted me with my picky princess’ needs. My beast , well he’s no different from toys to treats to basic needs , they have everything you could possibly need. The best part yet, the nice rep was able to help me find a brand new Mr. Honey Bear on the website , and he is now on the way!

Hippo LOVES his new Hippo! He also loved the treat that we got him. The store was well stocked with treats, food, accessories, all things dog! They also had a section for cats :)

Small store with a great location, better selection of dog focused (and some cat) products, and the single best group of staff I've had the pleasure of interacting with at a pet store. We love going here, and every time it seems like we find something new that becomes a favorite for our dogs (and a new kind of food our cats adore). When we have questions the staff have been great and, honestly, will keep going here over the local big box.

My partner and I just moved to Del Ray from the other side of town, and we made it a point to commit to shopping locally. We have two fur babies of our own, and were SO happy that The Dog Store was a 10 minute walk from our house. This place is THE BEST. They carry the best brands and always treat us like we're family. Kadeem is the man! He will never hesitate to make sure you're taken care of and will always give your babies all the love. There's no competition here - The Dog Store is the best pet store in the DMV. We are so happy that they're around.

This is like the doggo version of a favorite bar. We stop by a few times every week for a cookie, a favorite dog food, or to try something new. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Sometimes quirky, occasionally chaotic, always a good place to visit.

The place is really nice looking and had some great stuff, but the women running the store on Sunday, July 31, 2016 was extremely unfriendly. I have managed a boutique store before, and if she were my employee, i would have fired her. We would've bought more and probably become regular patrons if she even tried to help us or respond with words when we tried to talk to her instead of just pointing and then looking away from us. Really disappointing, especially for a dog store where you'd think staff would be pleasant and at least mildly enthusiastic. There are better dog stores around where the people actually seem to like dogs.

Your dog’s wildest dreams are about to come true. I’ve never seen so many different products made from so many different things--specifically for dogs to chew and enjoy. You kind of have to go see for yourself. Pick something up and watch your dog devour it...you’ll be amazed!

This is a fun store to visit when in Del Ray. They DO love the dogs and there always seems to be new things to see and learn about. The windows are always themed and it makes for a fun stop for all ages. The outdoor patio was also a fun and unique spot to share treats with our dog after our visit.

I'm always looking for random stores to take my dogs. The big box stores all carry the same thing, so it gets a little mundane. I'm really glad I found this gem, they had tons of stuff I hadn't seen before and what was even more surprising was their prices! My dog breeder was really assertive about buying high quality dog food, so I got in the habit of buying Orijen, Acana, and Heritage, all of which never offer discounts. This place has the best prices I've found so far, and I buy several healthy chews that I haven't found anywhere else. The gentleman who helped me was awesome, he had a wealth of product knowledge and advice. Bonus points for being across the street from Dairy Godmother custard, just another excuse to stop by!

this is the best dog store in Alexandria by far....the times that I have been in I am always greeted by Jiff,I think he's Swedish maybe..a jovial bespectacled fellow who is always willing to steer me to the right food and such for my little poo-poo...I only really shop here because of him..its a little out of the way for me but he makes it worth the trip..a pleasure to stop in every time he's there...his knowledge far exceeds dogdom... he is a human encyclopedia of randomness...you gotta love the guy!top notch,highly recommend!!UPDATE!no manager Jiff then there is no customer service....I went in this week and the unperson able robot salesperson trash talked the old boy...i could read into the small minded small business "politics" a mile away..from what I could piece together sounds like he got a better job offer somewhere else and the owner took things personally,one of "those kind" of bosses..all I know is i will never step foot in the store again...the atmosphere is very stale and negative without the guy,also seems a bit messy and disorganized now ..hopefully he was scooped up by the competition down the avenue and puts em' out of business!

Nice boutique, staff very unfriendly. We brought our dog for our first visit to the store today and the 2 women working never spoke a word to us! No hello or goodbye, nor did they acknowledge the Dog. Very disappointing visit. No intentions of returning due to such poor service.
