Tried going to this address 3-29-24. As far as I can tell does not exist. I was met with private property signs and no mention of an animal shelter here.Edit: I can't respond to the business owner's comment but if you could please put a picture up of what you entrance looks like it is not welcoming to newcomers. I also tried calling your place of business and could not get in touch with a person or any information that would help me confirm that place -- 39710 Goodpuppy Lane, Aldie, VA 20105-- is an an animal shelter. Maybe it seems obvious to you from the name of the street "GoodPUPPY" that is would be an animal shelter but that is not always the case. When I see that many private property signs and I also read news stories of people being shot coming onto private property, and it's Virginia where legislstion is in favor of gun owners, I know I am not alone in going to hesitate coming onto that property. If you could do me, and anyone else wishing to visit there a favor: put up at least one sign that clearly says, larger than the 4+ other private property signs, "Animal Shelter". Thank you.

This is an excellent organization. They are familiar with the habits and personalities of the dogs, and try really hard to match the right pet to the right family. They give a heads up and advice on animals that may need special care or training. It seems like they have a lot of of love and concern for all the animals. The dogs at the shelter get walks and have regular play times with other dogs. The seniors dogs are also have special living spaces. Overall, it is a wonderful place. I have adopted two dogs from them

I adopted my first dog from FOHA in September 2007. I had an interview process prior to me getting to the shelter. From what I can tell they were courteous and asked relevant questions. They also had a home inspection later before the adoption process, which tells that they do want to make sure that their pup goes to a safe location. Lanie was around 2.5 years old when I got her, and had been there for almost 1 year. She was a Smooth Collie / Alaskan Malamute mix and had been properly cared for as long as she was at FOHA. They followed up after about 3 months later to make sure that I was comfortable and had no issues with Lanie.Lanie recently passed away just a few weeks ago at a little over 13 years old.

I want all the doggos!!!!This is the most incredible place to adopt your next best friend. They have genuine care for the animals they house. Volunteers are attentive. Staff are educated. The animals are respected and handled with love. The people, the environment, and the overall experience of adopting here will make you want to leave with more than one pet. 10/10 would recommend.

I volunteer to walk dogs and cat snuggle at this no kill shelter. I wish the facilities were in better shape for the cats. If you can volunteer, donate food or money that would be a tremendous help to the shelter. Please consider adoption there are several animals that have been at the shelter for years that need a good, loving home.

This is a place that runs on volunteers. They bring in animals from kill shelters and work tirelessly to place them in good and loving homes. They provide vet services to the animals they rescue and clearly have a profound love and passion for what they do. If you're looking to get a pet, consider rescuing one from here.

I'm shocked to see these 1-star reviews, so I just have to tell everyone how pleasant our experience was getting our dog from FOHA this past October. I stopped by one afternoon to inquire about looking at dogs, and one of the volunteers led me through the kennels pointing out various dogs she thought would suit us based on what I told her. A few days later my husband and I went back together to see one particular dog and fill out an application. Shortly after this, we were approved, had a great home visit, and went back to pick up our dog the next week! It was a very quick and easy process! We didn't mind the adoption fee, because FOHA had been taking care of Baloo and giving him full veterinary care for about 5 months before we found him. When he came to FOHA he had a skin condition (which they took care of and healed up) and wasn't neutered (which they also took care of). The adoption fee we paid seemed like a fair price for everything they did for him! Throughout the whole process they were completely transparent with us on everything they knew about him, including a previous adoption that hadn't gone well, resulting in him being returned. The bottom line is we went to FOHA due to glowing recommendations from multiple people in our area and had a great experience with them ourselves. I'd absolutely recommend families look at adopting from this shelter - they truly care about their animals!

We met and fell in love with our Big Lazy Hound named Rufus. It's a no-kill shelter run strictly by volunteers. We decided to give it a try. You go to the site, take a tour to see the dogs they have, and request to see a few. The have walking paths and enclosed play areas to interact with your choices. We accidentally spent an hour playing with Rufus. Next step was to apply for adoption. They checked our references and did a home visit; the people at FOHA care immensely for these guys. My wife and son even went through their training to be cat snugglers. My son loved it. As we were getting used to Rufus and him to us, we had questions. The volunteers responded quickly and positively with great advice. Give FOHA a try.

Five stars only because ten isn’t an option! After losing our beloved companion and feeling completely devastated and lost, we found ourselves without a dog for the first time in our lives. We started searching for another companion to share our lives and home with. We stumbled upon Gunther on the FOHA website and immediately fell in love with his gorgeous face. We loved seeing the videos of him at social time and all the comments the volunteers wrote about him and his personality. We knew we just had to meet him. Thankfully, we were able to work with a wonderful lady Katy. Katy went out of her way continuously to help us through the adoption process, answer my 1,000 questions and was extremely compassionate. It was very clear to us that she loved all animals unconditionally the same way we did. Katy arranged for us to meet Donna at the facility and meet Gunther. Donna was super sweet and helpful in assisting us with adopting our new pup. Since we have brought Gunther home he has helped us so much in healing our broken hearts. He has brought tons of laughter back into our quiet home and endless doggie kisses and snuggles. We truly appreciate all of the help from both Katy and Donna in our process. We appreciate everything you both do, everyday to help other pups find their loving fur ever homes. If you have a chance to visit this facility, it is amazing! There’s wooded trails and fenced play yards. Hopefully we get approved for their foster program so we can continue to work with all of the amazing people who made it possible for us to find our Gunther boy. <3

On December 2, 2017, we put our beloved dog Cloud to sleep. My late wife and I adopted her from FOHA in November of 2005, probably about 13 months old at the time. We almost missed her but Penny/Wendy and then finally Cloud stole our hearts -- almost literally. My wife Sauci died of ALS in 2011 and Cloud saw me through that. I remarried to a wonderful woman and Cloud graced us with her presence all the time. She was 13 when she died. A wonderful, beautiful, kind, gentle and fluffy dog who would hurt no one and was great in the home, in the car, anywhere. She lived with 2 cats, with other dogs. She was just great. I want to say thank you to FOHA for letting us have Cloud. She is sorely missed

My wife and I adopted a beautiful young dog Nyssa (formerly Dora) this week. The staff was extremely friendly. They took great lengths to talk about what to expect in a timid dog and ways to help her integrate in our home. They led us through the process, did a doggie intro, provided as much background health and behavior information as they had on her and offered continuing support. I highly recommend Friends of Homeless Animals! **Full disclosure, I am currently a FOHA BOD member. This is our first adoption from FOHA, and the above review is based solely on this experience**

My husband and I became dog walker volunteers at FOHA last year and it quickly became our new favorite weekend activity. It’s so convenient that volunteers can drop in anytime during their business hours, without having to commit to shifts in advance. We met a dog we particularly bonded with and applied to foster him. Someone beat us to him, but the foster coordinator recommended another dog and couldn’t have chosen a more perfect match! She was such a good foster, we decided to adopt her. I was really impressed with how quickly the FOHA staff always responded to my emails and happily answered all of my questions. We are so grateful we found FOHA!

Very well organized and takes great care of highly adoptable animals that are close to being euthanized by high-kill shelters. They keep their website listing of animals updated and have volunteers who take multiple photos and who also take videos and post them on Facebook and the FOHA website. Really gives potential adopters a sense of the dog's personality before meeting them!

This group does wonderful work. Their facility is like an animal campus! I'm happy I was able to bring rescue dogs from NC here.Update 10/8/2022: Another delivery of rescue dogs, another wonderful welcome and efficient processing from this organization. Adopt a dog from them. Volunteer with them. Donate to them.

We have adopted all of our dogs from FOHA. This organization cares deeply for the pups and cats in their care and only want the best forever home for them. Fortunately, concerns noted here and elsewhere have been heard. It will take time for positive changes to take place, but I ask that potential adopters, past and present, not give up on this wonderful organization and it's equally wonderful volunteers who give of their time and money unselfishly every day.

FOHA is a quality animal rescue. They genuinely care about the animals and are invested in making sure they find forever homes. They are friendly and helpful and will assist you in finding the right pet for your situation. Best of all, they provide excellent care for their animals until they find a home--no matter how long it takes. As someone who has worked with several rescues and shelters, I can say that FOHA is tops in caring both for the pets and the people who adopt them.

First if you are looking for a pet to foster or adopt you have to stop by their awesome website. Now when you get there you will notice how nice and clean the place is kept. They have walking trails you can take your forever pet on. To get one on one bonding time. Then they have several play yards you can let your new friend run around and play in/with. FOHA treats all there kids with respect and dignity they deserve.

Nine years ago we volunteered at Foha. We walked large dogs every Saturday or Sunday. When I had extra time I showed up during the week and helped with the laundry. One day a walked into the office and a small cockapoo was in there and I picked him up and he melted into me. The rest is history. We took him home and he has made us laugh every day. We love him so much. Foha have him a loving home when he was left there, we have be privileged to have him with us since. Thank you.

I am glad my family found FOHA. The setting of the shelter is located in a beautiful wooded area with plenty of trails and play yards for the animal friends. We met many volunteers who were kind and the animals were well treated with dignity and respect. A great organization for supporting animals to find their forever home.

Listen guys, I get it. A lot of people are upset that they weren't able to adopt a dog for various reasons (crating being the most popular). The reality is that FOHA really cares about their animals, and they want to ensure that they will be taken to homes that align with their beliefs. I couldn't believe the horrible things that I saw in other reviews that were written about Lynn and Sue - they are two of the nicest people I have ever met. The grounds themselves are pretty nice and the dogs that I met when I visited were clearly in better spirits than facilities where dogs are crated. We just came home with our pup yesterday and the entire process was a breeze. The steps are going on the website to see which animals you are interested in, fill out an application (which is then reviewed), and then hear back on when you can go to the grounds to meet the animals. If you find one that you like you'll fill out another form, have someone come during that next week to do a home visit, and then you go back the next weekend to pick them up. The home visit lasted about an hour and it was very educational and helpful.I was very sad to see how many negative reviews were here. If you are looking to adopt an animal you never base it upon reviews that you would find on Google reviews or Yelp (like a restaurant) - it should be based on whether or not the animal would be a good fit for your home. I felt compelled to share this review because we had a positive experience with FOHA and the staff.

My daughter and I started to volunteer at FOHA recently and love it. What an amazing organization and dedicated group of people. They are there taking care of the dogs in the rain and mud with only the best interests of the dogs in mind. We also adopted a beautiful border collie from FOHA 8 years ago and have no complaints about the process.

We've adopted two foxhounds from this no-kill shelter and have only the highest regards for this organization. The staff and volunteers are truly dedicated to matching the right animals with the right owner. They know each animal and will share with you its traits after they get to know you as well. We have had wonderful results and recommend FOHA with an enthusiastic FIVE STARS!
