This store really needs some self checkout machines. A lot of the negative reviews mention how the store is understaffed, resulting in very long checkout lines. It won't solve the problems with the store but I do think it would help.

Plenty of grocery goods here, pleasant cashiers, good selection of snow removal items, parking is good, and lines move quickly. Some issues include very poor restroom condition - too far into the back along a difficult path and the stalls are ZERO handicap accessible for wheelchair users; mildly handicapped users would still have difficulty as there are ZERO accommodations installed, such as grip bars. Perhaps the owners do not wish for handicapped individuals to frequent their stores (every one of the 6 I visited had same or similar issues). Great savings program if you become a member.

Your store manager is very unprofessional talks down to her employees walks away when lines are full doesnt even help bag .Considering the store is short staffed she may want to keep the ones she has.!!!!!

The employees are all very nice, which is the reason for the extra star, but this is one of the worst grocery stores I have been in, and I have been in many as a mom with grown children. Fruit flies all over the produce in warmer months, empty shelves, TERRIBLE meat selection with poorly cut and wrapped meats, and incredibly expensive. This is unfair for the residents of the area where this is the ONLY grocery store for miles. Do better Shaw’s.

This is my home towns only "true" grocery store. And I HATE THIS SHAWS! Some of the staff are friendly and helpful! But the majority of the staff a person deals with on a regular shopping trip ruin it!!! Most of the front staff members are not friendly!!! My husband and I went through checkout last week, and the boy didn't even tell me the total of my order!! He was MUTE the whole time!! I go to this store atleast once a week at different times of the day, and most of the time, these people act like they HATE their jobs! They act like checking out your groceries is an inconvenience to them! I've been in there and waited at the register a few minutes while the clerks clearly knew I was there but continued to show the other what someone had posted on their Facebook page!!! Other times, I've been in there, and the checkout lines wrapped around the store past the egg fridge to yogurts!!!! With only 2 of the 6 or so registers open!!! AND This was a SATURDAY!!! This is an obvious day a grocery store would be busy!! And the the staff was there!!! I saw people who I've seen checking out customers before in aisle "stocking shelves." I put that in quotes because they weren't stocking shelves when I was watching them. But they were standing in front of the shelf with a cart full of the product to put on the shelf. Why were they not called up to run a register when the wait line was over a half hour wait and wrapped around the store??? MOVING ON TO THE STORE ITSELF.... . The SELECTION IS POOR!!! DONT EXPECT TO FIND EVERYTHING YOUR LOOKING FOR! You may only have one brand name, choice, size, and flavor! Otherwise, it's store brand, and you really have to be selective with what you buy for store brand because some of it's just tastes horrible! Like box Mac and cheese, canned foods...

Not all Shaws are created equal. This one is dirty. Poorly staffed. Visual Merchandising obviously done by an amateur (they literally have hats, tshirts and snack food loaded in a broken down cold case in the dairy section?!?)And the layout of the store changed ever so often to make it hard to find the simplest of products.I fight hard to not have to shop here and find myself driving to Shelburne or Middlebury to do 95% of my grocery shopping

Cashiers are always super nice. Aisles are always stocked too.Wish they had more than 2 lanes open during busy times, or had a self check out. The amount of times I've waited over 10 minutes just to get into a line to checkout is far too many. Maybe a manager can pop into a lane when the checkout line goes into the dairy aisle? Or maybe they can actually schedule enough people to work.

The worst shaws ever . I cant stand shaws to begin with high prices and just the worst supermarkets i rather go to Hannaford were its cheaper and customer service going through checkout is much nicer and the worker's and much more welling to talk with you .

Been going to this store for over a year now since moving and I hate it. The aisles, the choice of products, and the store itself are TINY. Employees are nice but the store has been understaffed for months now indicating that the problem isn't an issue with labor shortage but poor management. I'd say at least 70% of the time there is a significant wait to the register (usually only two open in my experience). I don't mind waiting but I do mind having to wait in a line that is so long, it blocks the aisles (this is the typical experience unless you go at weird hours). If this wasn't the closest grocery store within 30 miles, I absolutely would go somewhere else. If only someone would seize this opportunity to start a competing business in Vergennes 🤔

I have been going to shaw's and only shaw's since they came to Vermont and always had good experiences until I went in with rolled coins with my name address and phone number written on them. I was told they would not take change. When I said it was money I was asked to empty the rolls out and count them (45 dollars in nickels, dimes and quarters ) in line never in my life have I ever been so embarrassed.

They never have more than one slow register open. Whilst multiple employees just stand and watch the lines grow. If there was ever a case gor personal checkout this place is one.

Shaw's in Vergennes is a great little store. They had great digital coupons in the flyer, and had those items in stock. The employees were top notch. Especially Jason at the checkout. He was super helpful and guided me thru using the app for the first time. I saved around $150 and will definitely be back.

Shaws recently reorganized everything on a grand scale so it is a little more difficult to navigate if you were used to the old layout. I don't see how the new layout made any improvement to the old one, in fact the store even feels more tight to be in with a grocery cart because the massive produce counters are giant space guzzlers. I don't know why they had to change it.... but whatever. I guess it does look cleaner and fancier... but I don't go there beause I'm looking for fancy. I'm going there for groceries. My original review still stands. (see below)This store is expensive but it has amazing sale prices. Only problem is, when you shop sales, there is often a serious stock shortage problem. The quality and variety of the premade foods is pretty underwhelming, but if you aren't going there for that, everything else is good. Deli meat is good 👍 service is not impressive but all in all, I am happy to have this little store in the Vergennes area. They do supply WIC foods as well. I love having the shaws card for the extra perks and the rewards points for my husband's gas $$.

Parking lot was filthy, inside the store was decent. Staff were hurried, looked confused, and lacked common courtesy.

This is a small store, but it does make an effort to try to stock a variety of groceries. It’s a good place to get basics. Need a salad? Or an omelette? Or a great steak? They’ve got you covered. For these needs, I am grateful they are handy and reliable.I find this store could be better at keeping carts clean, the register belts clean and the payment machines clean. In a time of pandemic, this is important, but it’s also important any time, so this is an area they could improve.Another area that I’d like to see them improve is staff training about bagging. I’ve had problems with finding bruise-prone fruits packed with cans, with lettuce and other temperature-sensitive vegetables packed with frozen items, with over- filled bags that burst...you take my meaning. In this, Shaws really ought to take a page from Hannaford with their staff training. Despite this issue, staff are generally helpful, and always courteous, which I find important also.I have a preference for great international cuisines. And I’m on a gluten free, grain free and low FODMAP diet. This is not a store that caters to those dietary needs or preferences, so once a month I shop elsewhere to stock those items. While they do have many items to serve those categories, they have not researched brands that are flavorful to me. In some cases they have responded with products I really love. In other areas, felt they didn’t have room to stock something only one person has requested, which is understandable for a fairly small store, subject to purchasing minimum amounts of products. I’m hoping they might some day expand, which would certainly save me gas and time shopping elsewhere. Otherwise, I know I can stock my fridge and pantry with fresh, wholesome, basic ingredients; that I’ll get in and out of the store promptly, always find a cart, and always get a parking space. With some improvements in cleanliness and grocery bag packing, I’d happily return here to post a new rating!

Prices were higher than we expected. This shop had the few items we needed. Long lines prompted additional check out lanes to become available. Everyone keep their distance and their anxiety in check. I would shop there again since the store clerks were so helpful and attentive.

I wish there was another major grocery store in our area without having to travel 30 minutes north or south after a long day of work. The ability to bag groceries gets worse with each new hire. The system will not take your rewards number if the cashier "accidentally" totals the order mid transaction. Usually you can tell the cashier verbally if that happens but today I was told no I can't do that. My reply, "then I can't buy your groceries if I'm not getting the points for the money I spend here". Low and behold a senior associate came over and took care of it so the number could be entered.

Clean and fairly well laid out. Most staff are friendly and helpful. The prices are similar to Hannaford. I think they average slightly higher, but if you sign up for their coupon app you can save quite a bit.

Shopped here a few times now. It is a very small store that only have essential items, but they keep it well stocked and it serves the city of Vergennes very well. They have a redbox outside so it gets a little boost for that. As I said it is a small store (I think 3 or 4 checkout lines?) but they were staffed and well attended. The location is great since it is right off of Rt. 7.

This store is the worst. It smells bad, is overcrowded, the staff don't care about anything because they don't get paid enough to care. I find expired items on the shelves constantly. I hate having to go here as it's the only grocer in Vergennes where you can get a lot of stuff. I much prefer middlebury Hannafords but cannot go out there all the time. The deli staff never gives me the proper amount of what I order but I don't say anything because again, they get paid nothing. Really wish we had a Hannafords.

If I didn't have to wait 20-30 minutes in line on a Wednesday night at 6:10pm I would give them 4 stars. But the cashier's are slow af. 20 people waiting. 2 lines open. And I see employees walking by or calling on the PA. Just jump on a register bud and bang these sales out.

They've got alot of different items to pick from that I have not seen in Middlebury Shaw's. Workers are helpful, friendly & polite. The store is really clean inside & outside! Only thing I was not excited to see is that prices are higher here.

The place was a total madhouse. People everywhere. Sketchy selection - didn't find everything I was after. Would totally go back. People were real, staff was friendly and they didn't act like it was just a job. They acted like they were serving customers at "their store." You don't get that at the big box chains.

I make a point to shop at Shaw’s in Vergennes. I like the cleanliness and friendliness that Iexperience when doing my weekly groceries. Recently I was very disturbed by a resent procedure that I do not support. I spent over $200. Brought my own bags and bagged every item by myself- After the cashier touched every item to scan they are not aloud to touch my bags to assist the patron? She watched me along with the four or five other people in line behind me. I was embarrassed 😞Please revise the procedure-sanitize, sanitize . Make it a habit between each customer.Eight bags later I wiggled to my car and was very distraught wondering about that elderly person . I would help them and sanitize afterwards.Maybe a discount for the customer? Maybe those days are gone just like pumping our own gas? 😕 Just sayin.

I am tired of the grumpy cashier's that work in this store. If you are so miserable then go work elsewhere. What's up with the young guy who thinks he is to good to bag groceries? Where do you find these employees??

The good folks of Vergennes deserve much better. Store doesn't reflect image of Vergennes with all great restaurants, farmer market and shops. The isles often packed with stock, no space for social distance, one way isles are BLOCKED OFF at ends. And Covid or not this place will have empty shelves.Folks are nice but its clear store is aging and stressed to keep up. Need fresh change. Nice if it was a Hanaford.
