Black Sheep Bistro (one could certainly make the case) is the best restaurant in town. It is on the more fancy side of things and the quality of food certainly matches the reasonable costs associated. The space itself it beautiful and they are dog friendly here on the patio. The food was so delicious and a fun thing to note is that every entree comes with mashed potato’s and fries (along with some amazing dipping sauces). The service was excellent here and overall this place is very much a local gem that is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in town.

We were a party of four, excited to show the other couple how great this restaurant is. Unfortunately, we each received our entree’s and the waitress only brought out one French fri dish and one mashed potato for four people. Everyone was hesitant to take any because it doesn’t leave much for anyone else. The price for each entrée is suppose to include the fries and potato. The waitress said she’s been there years…

the service left a lot to be desired. small things such as waiting 5-10 minutes to be acknowledged (with reservation), woman who seated us gave us ice water in HOT glasses, holding share plates with their thumb in the middle of the plate before putting it down, and the biggest one - taking little concern over a serious allergy, and acting frustrated when we asked the server to double check that an item was safe to eat. not taking the time to consider they should also check on complimentary items provided and whether they are safe to eat.the food is solid - however, the place does not have a cocktail menu..they just list out liquors like a dive bar would.. and the server didn’t take time to suggest wine parings or go over the menu at all. just “what do you want”. server told us the restaurant could “make anything” as far ask cocktails, then gave us an old fashioned that was essentially just grenadine and whiskey (eek - you can’t make a classic drink - not a good look) … tldr- the service is lacking so much, the food isn’t worthwhile. i believe you have wonderful food but the very basics of service are not well understood at this spot. very very basics. and the whole experience, despite us having a reservation far in advance, was very disorganized. our table wasn’t ready, when we got there it wasn’t wiped down, and no one came by to greet us for 10 minutes. i felt like they were not that busy, but i also don’t know their system. i would give this a 3/5, but the service is what drags the score down. you can do better!

I was so excited when my meal arrived that I forgot to take a picture of it. Let me assure you, every scrap of food, every crumb and every drop was thoroughly enjoyed. We were unsure at first if the bread was free but it was. All entrees come with mashed potatoes and the best fries you've ever eaten - along with house made garlic and basil aiole. I ordered the salmon and my husband had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. I couldn't believe how tender and juicy my husband's pork was, and I loved texture of my salmon -juicy interior with an intriguing perfect crust on the exterior - giving the whole dish a multi layered texture that I loved. I had read reviews that the sauces here were particularly amazing, and they STILL exceeded our expectations. The prices are on the higher end but still felt totally fair. Great food, great service, cozy atmosphere. The only negative I can think of is that it is a little close on the seating to the other tables in my opinion... you probably don't want to plan to have very intimate or private conversations. But, I will definitely go back and encourage all our visiting friends and family members to do the same!

So happy with found the Black Sheep Bistro. We were staying in nearby Panton for a few days, and were planning to make the 50 min + drive to Burlington for dinner, when we stumbled across the sheep !. The reviews were great and absolutely true - a wonderful small bistro - indoor/outdoor and a small but really good menu. Highly recommend.

It's a bit pricey, but everything was delicious. I mean flavor was abundant! So so good. We got the duck, steak, an appetizer, dessert and a couple drinks. Oh and their mashed potatoes? Whoah! Very tasty!So it's a good date restaurant, but not super practical for eating regularly. But you won't regret it 👍🏼👍🏼

One of my favorite restaurants around...Lady, the server, is a delight! The fries and dipping sauces are outrageous. The steaks are always fantastic. The prices are super reasonable. Anytime anyone asks what I want for Xmas/ birthday...gift card to Black Sheep please!

This has become my family and I's favourite restaurant. We try to go there every few weeks from Burlington. The curry haddock is the best dish on the menu, but everything there is phenomenal. We will be regulars for many years to come.

One of my favorite restaurants in the area. I go here probably once a month. It's a small restaurant so you should call ahead for reservations. The staff are amazing and always seem to remember us. A fun fact is that every entree comes with family-sized mashed potatoes and french fries for the table. If you love carb loading as much as me, this is the place for you 🤣

Wow this place was a find! The food and service top notch. We ordered the salmon, Waldorf salad. Salmon was cooked to perfection - thick fillets were tender and delicious. Homemade mashed potatoes made with real cream and butter was an added surprise. We highly recommend this restaurant.Features: Tables were comfortably spread apart...plenty of privacy while dining.

I really like this place. Each table gets fries and garlic mashed. The wine choices are tasty and plentiful. The entrees are always delicious. This is a great date place, quiet dinner by yourself, or a good place to gather. It really hits all aspects. COVID or not, make a reservation and tell em what ya want (cozy, big group, etc). Don't miss out.

Great spot! I recommend the Black Sheep Bistro for anyone traveling to and/or staying in Vermont. Nestled in the quaint town of Vergennes, a reservation is highly recommended for this cozy spot. All dinner entrees on the weekend menu start at $25. I had the Haddock which comes with their staple mashed potatoes and fries (with special ketchup and two awesome sauces). As a starter, I had the pork dumplings. Everything was delicious. The servers were conciencious and friendly. For those who enjoy adult beverages with their meal, the drink menu offered plenty including three locals crafts on tap.

Baguette slices and fries were excellent, and so were the Haddock and duck. And, the staff were unabashedly kind to an evidently psychologically disturbed person to whom they served dinner. Thank you for welcoming her as family! I’m not from this area, but i was impressed to see such a sense of community.

Went here for a birthday and had a great time. They were very accommodating with our larger (and loud) party. The portions were very generous and the food was absolutely delicious. We loved that all the apps were the same price and all the entrees were the same price so it made splitting the bills simple. The pours of wine were also very generous. Every table gets a basket of fries and a bowl of mashed potatoes!Service was on point and prompt. They had no problems waiting to take entrée orders while the last member of our party was running late. We'll definitely be going back.

Oh my god! Every bite was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. Can’t wait to try everything on the menu. Great service. Get a reservation they are full even on Monday nights. Only complaint wish their starters were shareable. Also wish they had a better local beer and wine selection. Also the price of their glasses of wine are insane, $10 for a glass from a $16 bottle of wine, thats just extortion.

My wife and I dined here recently - we have a two year old so don't get to nice restaurants often (my mom watched the baby) and went here because of its good reviews. We were disappointed in both the food and service.I got the steak and escargot, both were great. My wife got the bacon brie chicken, of which part was overcooked and rubbery.But the big issue was the service. After we ordered, a ten person party was seated next to us, and our waitress ignored us. She never asked how our food was or if we needed anything else. Another waitress ended up taking our check. I was actually going to get another drink and never got a chance.I know large parties are a lot of work, but you still need to keep serving smaller groups. It was very frustrating, given both others' experiences here and the fact that we won't have a chance to go out for dinner again in awhile.

Best value fine dining in the area. Portions are huge, everything is delicious. You get the most amazing fries and potatoes as part of your meal. Service sets it apart, I made a mistake not inspecting a bottle of wine closely enough and Bridgette did not hesitate to comp it. Totally unnecessary, but such a great experience. We went for our one year wedding anniversary, and am so thankful we did. can't wait to go back. Get the steak, and cigar rolls for the win.

Not a single item was a disappointment. For starters, we tried the lady cakes, the crab cakes, and the escargot. All were fantastic, but the curry sauce on the lady cakes was astoundingly good.For entrees we had the pub steak, chicken, and the haddock. The haddock had the same curry sauce and thin sliced almonds. The haddock stole the show; it was perfectly cooked, and the flavor combination was a match made in heaven.The french fries were on point, and the mash was creamy and smooth.The maple creme brûlée tasted brilliantly like maple candy, and the flourless chocolate cake was like a top tier fudge.No complaints, you can't go wrong trying this place out.

We were passing through and stopped because the outdoor seating caught our eye. Wow was the food delicious! We had the pork dumpling wraps for starters, and the balsamic Brie and bacon chicken and the grilled salmon with pineapple salsa for entrees.
