We had a wonderful experience at the Springfield Humane Society, where we recently adopted our adorable new puppy. The staff were clearly very dedicated to their work--I was impressed by how well they knew the animals and how kind and loving they were with them. The adoption process was well managed, and the instructions they provided for taking our little guy home were clear and thorough. If you're looking to add a new member of the family, I highly recommend this shelter.

After our poor cat passed recently, we waited a while to adopt another until we felt it was good for us all. We found one at Springfield Humane Society that was perfect for the five of us, and I cannot say enough nice things about the staff there, how smooth they made the process, and how well the animals seem to be taken care of. While the animals were great and some of the staff were friendly and helpful we had been on a waiting list with an accepted application for months waiting for two kittens. We understand that this cannot be helped as kittens aren't made to order😊. We were told we would have first pick of a litter when they would get some. I would call occasionally to remind them we were waiting and excited. We went in one day and fell in love with a beautiful 8 month old calico kitty and ended up taking her home. We couldn't find her a friend that day as none of the other kitties seemed to "pick us." We were told by staff that there was going to be a few batches of kittens but that the first two groups were spoken for. This was after we were told we would get first choice and had been waiting for several months. The third group of kittens we could have first choice of the three coming in. We went first thing as the doors opened after several phone calls and questions about the kittens. Upon arrival that first day after they were fixed/neutered and available to the public we were told as we walked in the first people of that day that one was already spoken for. The person who wanted to claim the kitten hadn't seen him yet but she wanted a black and white kitten and if she didn't like him after seeing him, that we could have him if we wanted. We did end up really liking him but we chose another as we were afraid to take a chance and wait the outcome of the black and white kitten and loose the chance to choose from the other two. We are very happy with our choice as our little guy is a great fit for us. I just wish the person managing over the place would keep her word.

Great facility, with an even better cause. We've adopted two cats. One on the younger side , and one a bit older and we've had them for years now and can't explain the joy they have brought the family. The volunteers we're incredibly friendly and helpful through both adoption processes. Even if you just want to go and meet new fury friends, and give some critters some treats. It'll put a smile on your face.

I had recently lost a 4-legged companion at a very young age, and started putting out feelers to shelters for a puppy. For myself, but also for my 3 sons, who were struggling with the loss. I explained my situation to SHS, and they picked ‘Glamour’. We were all apprehensive based upon her puppy pictures and my sons were not convinced a ‘girl dog’ would fit in. When we visited, over a two hour drive for us, I hoped I had done the right thing. The staff met us in the back and brought out ‘Glamour’. She immediately took to the kids (7,5 and 2), and they to her. Still nervous, my husband and I asked to see a ‘boy dog’. It was so immediately clear that the staff at SHS knew what they were doing. They picked the perfect dog for our family in ‘Glamour’. They have the experience and obviously get to know the animals personality to make excellent matches for forever homes. We renamed ‘Glamour’…Annie, after orphan Annie on the ride home. She steals the heart of everyone she meets. We couldn’t be happier. She’s excellent with the kids, our farm animals, other dogs, visitors, really she’s great with everyone. We purchased a DNA kit….when time allows we’ll actually administer it. I would highly recommend SHS to anyone looking for a 4 legged companion…and I do! Thank you SHS! Adopt!!!

This place is the best. They save so many misunderstood animals and give them a wonderful family. They always make sure the home is safe and if your a good, loving person/family, you have nothing to worry about. Anyway, I’m trusting you will love them, because I’m getting my first pup there soon.

Seems like a great place with loving employees. My new furry friend, Cleo, and her purrsonality were well described online, showing that they really pay attention to their tenants. Employees knew most, if not all of the animals and their stories right off the top of their heads. They really care and it shows.

We adopted our cat from the Springfield Humane Society. We are very happy with them. They spent time talking with us about the different cats that were available to help us find the cat that best suited our family. They allowed us to spend as much time as we needed in the cat room meeting and interacting with the cats. I like that they quarantine and care for the animals when they first enter the shelter. They then make sure that the animals are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped before leaving. We left with a wonderful, healthy cat that fit perfectly into our family. Would adopt from them again.

I am so grateful that Ann Eddy took the time out of her time at home that is typically for rest and relaxation after a busy and stressful week to come down and let my Nutmeg come home with us on Friday night. We just adopted a kitty from there and he is absolutely wonderful! We were so happy working with the humane society. The whole experience was just amazing! We plan to go back to adopt again 🙂🙂

This place has been a lifesaver of animals for years. I’ve never seen a more dedicated team of workers in any other humane society. Everyone is happy, even the staff. The animals are well taken care of and adoptions are easy and comes with all the paperwork (even a chip). What I didn’t know was that my father (who was always the “manly old fashioned man”) used to go there and play with the kittens and dogs at least once per month for years. I was even more surprised when I found out that his will included a donation which gave them the funds for the brand new “kitten room”. I had no idea that they put a plaque with his name on the wall. This place taught me a lot about how he felt about the society and most importantly it taught me about him, about his heart and emotions which he never showed because that was the way things were during his generation. Last year we adopted a kitten my wife saw in the new room. I now have a piece of my fathers heart (Oliver) that makes me smile everyday thanks to the society.

They're only open a couple days a week but they helped me with my cat getting spaded $50 plus $5 per piece two shots it was perfect and I am so happy he's fixed people are very nice and it be a nice idea if you have any extra food you can donate cuz they pick up animals they have taken care of and stinks I like to drop off extras

Low kill animal shelter, (exceptions incl rabies.) Staff are great with animals and people. SHS has a great relationship with local vet, and other shelters. Has a quarantine room for new critter guests. Just added critter sick bay. All animals given shots, spayed / neutered if of age. Kittens and puppies fostered til old enough to adopt. Does lots of adoptions -- incl dogs from high kill shelters in the South. SHS staff screens adopters well. Executive Director and Board, oversee responsibly. Fund raising events and successful grant applications. Valid 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit. Always a need for dependable volunteer dog walkers.

Very strict adopting expectations. I get it, people shouldn't have pets they dont take care of for whatever reasons may be.... but Sometimes it's a little overkill!!

We have been contacting them for three days straight about our neighbors cat being neglected as she is extremely skinny and is locked outside most of the day and she was shivering the night we had taken her into our home from how cold it was outside, they had told me they would connect me to there director that takes care of neglect visits but she hasn't even sent me a email or phone call, this is honestly ridiculous because this cat is the greatest cat in the world and not even the humane society cares enough to help
