We just found our new furbaby. The staff and volunteers are wonderful to work with. A big shout out to Emily and Anya for helping us and answering all our questions. THANK YOU! The application process is seamless. We highly recommend you consider adopting from HSCC!

The heart and soul of this shelter is hands down the Animal Care workers. Without these incredibly dedicated workers this place would not be standing. The animals are so lucky to be under their care and the community is so appreciative. Thank you for all you do every single day.

I’ve adopted 2 cats through them and I have to say, you can tell the staff LOVE what they do and it’s always a pleasure to visit this humane society. Honestly it’s such a positive environment and when adopting, the staff give you so much information and resources it’s extremely helpful. Pictured below are my loves that the humane society of Chittenden county blessed me with!

They are so kind and understanding. Very patient with emotional people in a time of great sadness if having to relinquish an animal. Also great with the care and wellness of their animals. They make sure they go to good homes. Please donate to them whenever you can, every little bit helps.

Very nice folks. I highly recommend adopting from them and using their low cost spay and neuter clinic for you pets. Bellman was a little bit loopy after his surgery, but is doing great.

Hours suck "rehoming fees" ate more like sale fees would you go to a breeder and bay 350 for a 4 year old dog no you wouldn't these dogs and cats don't get a fair chance for good homes because the fee's are ridiculous

They do an amazing job with their adoption process. I've adopted 2 kittens in the past 5 years one being a week or so ago, Olivia now known as Pitou and Frisky Spears now known as Midward. Would love to know who names all the kitties when they come in!!

Oh I was just asking about local places where my cat could get her shots next month. I did get a couple of good tips. I didn't know animals that go there after the passing of the owners don't get put to sleep

I've gotten three cats from here and the other day brought in a different one for their clinic. Their staff are super friendly and very helpful. The shelter itself is clean and is a safe environment for pets. I'm happy to continue supporting this shelter that I learned about through family members who got pets here before about 20+ years ago.

We just adopted a dog from here. The process was easy and we love the pup. I would give 5 stars if they actually gave me the results of the stool sample we asked for from them, since the dog came to us with bloody stool and is now vomiting. We just wanted to make sure he didn't have a parasite.EDIT: changing to 5 stars because they sent the results

I rescued five baby bunnies last year. Chittenden Humane Society was a pleasure to work with for helping take in the bunnies over the year and finding forever homes. They are supportive, professional and knowledgeable. Their compassion and love for animals shines through. Thank you for being so kind and helping me with the process. Truly grateful.

I adopted two guinea pigs named Merry and Pippin (formerly known as Tank and Tater Tot) a few months ago and now have adopted a cat named Remus (formerly known as Mr. Big Whiskers) from them as well. They take such great care of their animals and are more than willing to answer any questions adopters have for them.

Am I missing something? Thought this was a pet place. They are not pet friendly, won't allow animals on their property unless abandoning them. The staff are all unhappy alternate punk hipsters confused about their gender, they're so miserable and unpleasant the energy is nauseating. This place is a joke!

A friend and I found an injured domesticated rabbit and were unable to take it into our own care. We were having a difficult time getting help with the rabbit but Isabelle at the front desk gave me a call back and offered some solutions to me. She went above and beyond to make sure we could find help for the rabbit, and though we ended up finding another rehabilitation facility for the rabbit that better suited my needs, I really appreciated her time and effort. She was kind and patient and incredibly helpful!

We used their vet clinic to have my kitten neutered after a bad experience at Affectionately Cats. It was great! Prices were affordable, care was great, easy to book online. This is where we will be bringing our cat for any issues and for his annual care.

They are wonderful and caring people, and the veterinarian goes above and beyond. They not only help animals find forever homes, but they also help people with the animals they already have.

As someone who worked in other Vermont Humane societies I have to say this one is the worst. (Obviously saving animals is amazing) But they make the adoption process really difficult and charge more than most places. They'll keep you on a wait list for years and never call you when the pet you want is available, so you really have to keep visiting, otherwise you likely won't find a pet. They also make it really difficult to bring in rescued pets. I found a kitten a while back and they said they were ready but it ended up taking 3 hours and I had to fill out paperwork which made me feel guilty for even trying to save the kitten I found. It was so uncomfortable that the next time I found kittens I drove to a different Humane society for help. One pro is that they were really nice to me about fostering. It was something I wanted to try during the pandemic and the process was really smooth. And when unfortunately I couldn't follow through they were quick about taking the animal back and finding a new foster, without judgement. That seems like a really great opportunity for people with appropriate time and space. 🐶🐱

I got my kitten from here 5 weeks ago. He had an unfortunate history and did not want to be bothered by any of us. He did not meet the profile I had originally filed and I was reminded of that and shown another kitten. She was beautiful and loving. I'm sure she would have made a wonderful pet. Nevertheless, he and I took to one another. He allowed me to fuss over him and he stole my heart. I brought him home. He has adjusted beautifully. I made the right choice!

Staff was rude. It's not a place that I would adopt from. You're not allowed to meet the dogs in person. They actually expect people to adopt & bring home a strange dog. We all know that a dog is going to act differently bringing into a strange environment. so sad

I came to visit a dog I was going to adopt recently and they won't even letd see her for 5 minutes. The previous owners were not capable of caring for the dog whatsoever so the rushed her to the nearest shelter which is a shame. The point is that this dog is sitting in a crate and she has severe anxiety from being crated in the past and they won't even let her out to see the person she is most comfortable with. Absolutely not "humane"..... Also this makes me think something is wrong with the careof the animals to so quickly deny visitation of any kind.

You can tell that the staff here truly cares about the animals! They're outgoing, sweet, people who house and adopt out even sweeter pets. We adopted 2 kittens that were raised by a staff foster member and they're the absolute best. Social, sweet, and confident, and I think it's largely due to their efforts!

We went to see a ferret because we wanted to adopt her. She's adorable... but appears old. I asked for the full info packet... it took over 90 minutes for them to get to us. They claimed they were busy, but all I saw was them bringing vet checked cats from downstairs up to the cages. I know it needs to get done but youd think an adoption cou seling would take precedence. We were then told the info, which is absolutely nothing. Everything they knew about her had been shared and waiting for the profile was an absolute waste of time.I tell them I know she's a marshalls ferret-- they all have tattoos in their ears. I inform thrm that their adoption fee states it covers a spay, but Marshall's spays all their ferrets before they are sold. Why would we pay the $100 fee to the humane society for the spaying of the animal when they didn't do it. I was fine with an adoption fee, but not ok with them charging for a procedure they didn't perform.I asked them about doing ferret playdates to make sure my boys liked her before we adopted. They said yes, but when they asked their manager she said no.... they only offer that service for dogs. I asked what options I had and they said I could adopt for $100, bring her home and see if it works. I said, but what if it doesn't, will a refund be given? They told me no refunds ever.So at this point they want to charge for a surgery they didn't do, wasted over an hour of my time, and won't allow us to trial our ferrets to see if they get along. It felt very business like instead of for the animals.I told them I needed time to discuss it with my husband and they guilted me! They said "oh someone is waiting to adopt that ferret right now and if you don't take her she won't be available tomorrow". I left because of the way I was treated and that they aren't pro animal, they are pro money.

I absolutely love the way they handled taking in my mother in law to bes cat. They were super sweet and caring throughout the whole process. We were unable to donate cash at this time so we donated items from her home that she had for the cat, including food and cat litter. They prefer donations of any sort. They are super workable with anyone. I would recommend them time and time again. They definitely deserve 5 stars. The place is clean and the animals seem content, not finicky and nervous like you see at some places. Good job chittenden county!!!! ❤🤗

Fantastic place with even better staff members. They get to know each and every animal that comes in to insure they receive the best possible home.
