Oldest general store in the USA, Well worth a stop on a road trip or even just pop in during a stay in the local area. Great little gift store at the front and a surprising amount of hot food items on offer all looking tasty and moreish. Everything you could possibly need for your trip and a seating area at the front to enjoy your purchases in. Staff are friendly and the whole vibe of the store is welcoming.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. Not only do you get the best homemade food and treats here - but the staff are always making sure each and every person that walks through their door feels welcome. Their Reuben is the best I've ever had in my life! Better than even the ones I've gotten in NYC and abroad. You are a beacon of wholesome goodness and a great example of what true community means. Thank you!

So we intended to eat breakfast in the putney dinner 🥘 but it was so busy that we ended in the general store. They have breakfast and lunch and they were super quickly and delicious! Very friendly people.

Stopped recently & had the turkey, apple brie sandwich on perfectly grilled sourdough bread. Absolutely the best sandwich evah! My husband's steak & cheese sandwich was a true winner as well. Definitely worth a return visit.

Was on a bike ride from bellows falls to Brattleboro and I got thirsty and hungry. I had to stop mid meal to inform the world that I will do this bike ride again JUST to get their creamline chocolate milk and pulled pork sandwich. Best meal I've had in years. The chocolate milk contains zero gum but a ton of cocoa and cream so it's smooth but not chewy. Why ice cream and milk drinks contain gum I'll never know. But moving onto the pulled pork. I was prone to disappointment when I saw the size of it, but I opened it and it was chock full of tastefully charred pulled pork, melted cheese, perfectly sauteed red onions,and a toasted bun of the highest quality. Seriously the best meal I've had in years

PERFECT STOP FOR A MEAL AND TO STOCK UP / HISTORIC + A TASTE OF VERMONT - this little store is packed with a nice combination of basic needs for food & supplies AND plenty of locally / Vermont made goods to include:cheeses, preserves, wine, honey, coffee, canned cold brew coffee beers, maple syrup, mead, produce, milk, snacks galore, etc.A nice deli with quite a menu, coffee, and more.Plenty of seating if you dine here. Gift shop upstairs.Easy to get to at a major intersection in a quaint town.Perfect for tourists and those on the interstate.

Have to check this place out! Nice little gift shop upstairs with a little bit of everything! Store itself is worth a look. Local wines and beers, maple products, few souvenirs and regular items in a convenient store. There is a Deli an they make sandwiches which seemed very busy (must be good!)

Such a cute store. Not like the normal “General Store” you see in large towns. This store has many things that a person passing through or living there would need. Some local items like maple syrup was a great find. They serve breakfast with a smile and you need to only order one of their burritos. I ate on it all day. It was so good. Packed with flavor and reasonable priced. Try it. You won’t be disappointed

Great food - burgers and burritos.I find prices cheaper here than at the local Coop and Sunoco especially for Walpole Creamery. Amazing selection of local, important and craft beers and wine, all reasonably priced.Mike, the proprietor, does a fantastic job managing the business!

Food was good. Coffees options felt limited.there were problems with the kitchen so sandwiches took longer to make. Overall a nice store. The sandwiches were very good.

Great little story! If you order meals, ask them to heat it up AND double check you got the right stuff! A young man in there never gets it right! The food is wonderful! The older lady acts..mean!

Try the delicious “Evan Wrap” if you’re visiting before 11 am; it’s a vegetarian-friendly breakfast wrap that features avocado…it’s not on the menu, but I order it so often (up to 5x/week) that regular store employees should know what you’re talking about. I love being able to jump over to this town hotspot & do so almost everyday. Great staff that has certain core members that have been there for quite a while & solidify/form a foundation, while also featuring numerous “new” employees that bring an exciting vibe into the store. Highly recommend this classic Vermont Country Store that is the oldest in the state, despite the many challenges it has faced(including burning down multiple times & once having a pharmacy on the second floor) it is a vibrant and historic piece of New England Americana….one which i have photographed phrequently! Check it out for yourself if you’re passing through or as a destination spot in itself.

The prepared food is consistently delicious! Great small town store for forgotten items like milk, etc. FABULOUS service with a smile! I hope your visit coincides with the opening up their shop upstairs. It would be a great place to get some gifts or even gifts for yourself🤩

We stopped for breakfast and to our surprise they make hot breakfast at the deli counter. We got pancakes and bacon. We sat outside on the porch to eat. The staff even brought out a bowl of water for our dog. They have a wide range of snacks & drinks to choose from and a pretty good craft beer selection. We will definitely visit again.

Absolutely amazing sandwiches. Anything you get here is delicious!Our favorite is the Turkey apple brie sandwich. They also sell delicious pastries and have a very cute gift shop upstairs with unique gifts for friends and family.This is a regular stop for us when we want a sandwich for lunch.

I’m a New Yorker and traveling back home and did a random stop here on the way. Bumped into this place by accident. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I had. I should have order two because i ate the first one so quickly. Try Debby’s Ice tea!

Nice place and nice people, I enjoyed checking this place out. It's a general store and also has a gift shop that's pretty nice. You can get a variety of things here like, food, drink, cool gifts for a loved one or friend. Can find some cool vermont stuff too so if your from out of state you can get somthing to remember your trip with. Hope all who go there enjoys it like I did.

The pesto chicken sub was delicious. However, there were at least 5 staff behind the counter, (or perhaps staff and friends?), joking around and having a good time, not paying much attention to business. Checkout was quick, after waiting a rather long time for the sandwich with no other orders pending.
