I was doing research for lodging for an upcoming ski trip this long weekend. I saw all the concerning reviews of this place, but because of its great location (near Killington Ski Resort) I decided give them a call and get a feel myself. The guy who picked up the phone was friendly at the beginning when I was inquiring about the pricing and availability. But once I asked him how old are the beddings and sheets since they look pretty old from the google pictures, he flipped and became very upset and impatient with me. I thought I asked a legit question but somehow irritated him - would not recommend this place.

When I arrived at the Happy Bear Motel, I was very well received. I was also greeted with a smile early when I went to have breakfast that the motel offers for free!Thank you for your excellence in service!Rooms: My room is all clean and organizedNearby activities: Just cross the street and you already find a restaurant and there are many others very close to the motel. I left my car at the motel and walked to the restaurant. There are also places with live music! Ha, the ski area is very close to the motel.

The location of this place is the only bright spot in this abyssal hole, in The beautiful landscape of Killington. The man that runs it is extremely rude, and I hope the rumor that he is closing for 'renovations' is true because he definitely has bed bugs. I have pictures of a friend of mine who stayed there with the only part of his body that was exposed having at least 40-50 bites.BEWARE!!!!

Last weekend was the fourth time my friends and I stayed at the Happy Bear. What do they say are the three most important things about real estate? Location Location Location. Lucky for Happy Bear because it's location is literally the only reason we stay at the Happy Bear. It is right across the street from Pickle Barrel and Wobbly Barn (the two most important establishments on the mountain aside from maybe the ski trails). Happy Bear is priced appropriately. I would rather pay an extra $200 per night and have a few hundred more amenities like adult sized towels, a shower that hits above my belly button and a parking lot that doesn't double as a wet ice skating rink. The staff at Happy Bear are friendly and courteous but they are savvy. Don't try to get an extra guest past them, they'll catch ya. They meter the occupants by limiting your bathroom towels to two per room. Some day my friends and I will buy this joint, fix it up and make it look more like the Ritz and less like my moms basement. Heat works, sheets are clean. Fox News comes in fuzzy. There are no outlets to plug your phone in except for behind the 1999 college dorm room refrigerator set atop an old wooden chess that doesn't open. We will stay here again, and again only because I literally can not afford a DUI.

My boyfriend and I as a get away together, and close to his work decided on happy bear. I called to see if they had vacancy, which they did! Price was $109 plus tax which was seemed like a decent price and I was SO excited. I again asked the total price which he avoided and said Check in was at 3, little early but no big deal. I asked if they accept cash, he said yes as long as providing a credit card for damages. I asked if I just paid with a card if that was enough to just have that on file in case of potential damages? The gentleman said yes. Upon arriving at 3:15, I noticed it wasn’t far off from a Rutland type feeling hotel which is exactly what I did NOT want. But I proceeded inside anyways. The man took my id, copied it and handed me a card to write all of my information down. Name phone number address vehicle plate number year make and model…. That made me slightly uncomfortable but I still carried on. I asked him the price again he said it was $138 AND they put a $150 hold on my card for damages. I said NO WAY and took my business to the killington mountain lodge by Hilton just up the road past the mountain merchant. Price wasn’t much more, much better environment and friendly staff. There was even an issue where the fire alarm system went off, I had to spend an hour in my vehicle for the situation to be taken care of and I am STILL happier with my experience there rather than happy bear. Will NEVER inquire about a stay here again and will NEVER recommend.

Would not recommend and didn’t even stay there ! Guy on the phone was RUDE, would talk over me every time I called to inquire about something . The last straw was him ( same guy) spoke to me like a child and I wasn’t having it. Cancelled my reservation and went elsewhere . If this is how you’re treated prior to going , and seeing the other reviews, it all makes sense .

Rooms were decent size and extremely clean. Beds were comfortable. There are fridges and microwaves in each room which is nice if you're staying a few days. Owner/manager very responsive to guest needs. Currently no breakfast being offered due to COVID but there are several breakfast spots on the strip (SunUp Bakery is amazing!) that you can visit. He even had the necessary snow removal equipment that we borrowed to clean off the car from an overnight snowfall.

Expected a lodge environment like the neighboring area. It is a simple motel with zero extras, the couple who run it are friendly, but amenities are low quality. The continental breakfast was minimal, below my taste, however I tend to stay in 4 or 5 star hotels. If you need just a bed to flop in, than this is your place. It is a good location with clubs and restaurants with in walking distance.

Where do I start. When you walk in you are greated with a nasty smell old and musty. The rooms are very small. Everything is old the fridge the bathroom is literally falling apart. The beds are uncomfortable. And no power outlets anywhere near the beds. I do not recommend staying here.

Happy Bear? Not so much. This was the only place available so we had to go with it at a rate of $139, $153 with tax. Stayed in room 16 on the second floor. Room was crowded with too much furniture and in need if serious cleaning and upgrades. EVERYTHING needs updated. There were even soft spots in the floor. The only real positives were that it was available and had wi-fi. No one at the office during checkout. We left at about 10am.

They are horrible. Booked on hotels. Com and the owner called me and said he needed to charge me for room. He overcharged my card then charged it again for the lesser amount. I told him I was not refunded and he denied ever charging me 2nd amount even though my credit card clearly shows 2 charges. He was extremely rude and pompus. Now I have to go through customer service from hotels.com. and my credit card to try and get this fixed. I would give zero stars if I could.

Very small rooms and short shower, but they did have a nice tv, fridge, and microwave. The beds were not very nice - the mattresses easily slid off the box spring with no effort, and they were not made with fitted sheets, so the sheets and blankets fell off easily as well. Parking was very nice. Right across the street from some nice restaurants. Easy to find. Free Wi-Fi - and it worked really well.

Great location, but.... the management is not friendly, the bedding is truely ancient, and the rooms are overall dirty. I booked our room on Priceline. I booked a room with two double beds for 2 nights for myself, my husband, and my sister. No where on the website did it ask me how many people were staying in the room. After I checked in, we went to our room and started bringing our bags in from the car. Within minutes the manager was knocking on our door and yelling at us, saying we had three people in our room and we only paid for two people. I explained that I had booked the room online and it did not ask me how many people were in our party, but he was very upset and said he did not care what the website said, and it would be $20/night for the extra person. Definitely not a warm welcome. Regarding cleanliness- my sister (who is blonde) discovered long dark hair on her pillow. Also, the bathroom sink was dusty, there was hair on the floor, and there was mold on the ceiling of the shower. The first morning we were there, my husband went to the office at 9:45 for the "complimentary breakfast from 7-10" to find it had already been put away. The second night we were there, the wifi stopped working. My husband went to the office to report the wifi issue to the manager. The manager couldn't be bothered with it and said, "It's not working, I don't know why. It's free!" and waved him off. Anyway, we didn't stay here because it's a nice hotel, we wanted to be within walking distance of some of the restaurants and music venues, but one star hotel or not, the management should be friendly, if they promise free wifi, they should fix it if it's not working, and if breakfast is until 10, they shouldn't break it down early. These are typical standards of most hotels. I am sure the management will disregard this review as they know people will continue to book here because of its prime location, but as a member of the service industry, they are an embarrassment.

Free parking is good.But...Old smell is in rooms. Smell water in bathroom is like swamp. All hairs on towels and blankets tell you about all guests this motel.Rooms... All rooms seen civil war. Last renovation was in civil war too.

Gross, gross and gross. Out dated rooms, breakfast included is a lie. Owner harassed us when friends staying at another hotel came by threatening to upcharge us for extra guests.Nearby activities: Close to the pickle barrel

Unfortunately we loved this location, perfect simple place with basic amenities right near a great concert venue, but the staff was very pushy and rude. He knocked on our door when we had a do not disturb sign on it and then tried to rush us out 15 minutes before their 11am check out time that is posted on signs everywhere!! We would like to go back here, but hope the staff can see that they need to respect guests, it's not the other way around here.

Room was super small. Bed was uncomfortable. Very overpriced for a very-much no frills motel. Bathroom door was literally falling off its frame and the door slab itself was splintering and delaminating and wouldn’t even close. I could see light coming in the edges of the entrance door, and I could feel a draft. The Room was like $100 and definitely not worth it. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! The “owner” was difficult, suspicious, and disrespectful! My trip was borderline ruined because of our stay here. When we arrived we were abruptly warned to keep quiet at night or else “we would be checking out!” Never once recieved a “have a good stay” or “is there anything else I can help you with” during check in and was watched like a hawk as I unloaded my car. Truly felt disrespected and was uncomfortable whenever I stepped foot on the property of the motel, which is not how I want to live when I’m traveling. I entered my room to a musty stench, and finding loose Doritos chips behind the dresser and loads of trash behind the bedside nightstand. I was staying with 4 people in 2 double rooms, awaiting the arrival of a 5th the second night. After my first night I was charged 110 dollars and while just curiously asking what the pretense of the charge was, I was answered unclearly and it seemed to upset the man that I even asked. He told it was an extra person fee for 2 nights! Right after he told me do not come in to the office “complaining about things you don’t know” his English was clearly off but I was amazed that this is how he ran his establishment. If I could give zero stars I would and THEY DESERVE IT. I DO NOT RECOMMEND staying here and highly encourage you to find another place to stay if you want a comfortable and comforting stay. Side note: I’m terribly worried that this person has all my personal and credit card information aswell :)
