I have only bought from this company online, but let me just say this brand is AMAZING!!! You will not find this quality anywhere these days. The fact that this place exists is seriously a miracle. Places like this are worth more than gold, and the fact that you can simply go online to order is a blessing. Thank you so much for supplying America with real clothing again. I plan to tour Vermont this year, and this store is going to be one of my first stops!!

Johnson Woolen Mills is a bit misleading name unless you already know about their enduring quality, classic construction, wool and flannel clothing and outerwear brand made in the USA. This is their retail store, in the old mill. You can throw a stick in any direction to find a Vermonter's closet with items from their lasts-forever lines; probably green wool pants and a few flannel shirts. This is the clothing quality you had thought was extinct. I am told they are updating their retail offerings in 2023. Stop by now you'll see outer wear, pants, safety-orange gear, hats, gloves, scarves, plushies, children's and women's clothing, classic wool blankets, local jewelry and more. Friendly service and yes, they ship. A comfy waiting area for those who just want to sit.

We had company from out of state and at the last minute emailed to see if we could have a tour. Gene (one of the owners) got right back to us and we set up a time. I have to say our tour with Erin (one of the owners) was AMAZING! We have purchased from there several times in the past year and it was interesting to listen to the history and the future plans they have. We had no idea of the behind the scenes work areas etc. If you haven't been, you should take this tour. Great VT history and great products! Thank you Erin!

Johnson Woolen Mills has been sold and the new owners are outstanding. They have reorganized the entire space, in addition to renovating and opening the Sheep’s Den downstairs, offering terrific discounts. These folks have shown they are excited and devoted to being active members in this community from feeding flood victims to offering space in their lobby for free pumpkin pies at Thanksgiving, to giving away loads of beautiful stuffed animal sheep throughout November and December!!! On top of that, they offer wonderful products and their customer service is fantastic and a model for businesses everywhere. Over the moon to welcome Gene, Erin, their crew and enthusiasm and investment in Johnson Woolen Mills and making Johnson Village a destination for residents and guests to Northern Vermont ❤️

Bad behavior! One of the worst merchants I've ever dealt with. I wanted to support my local New England business, but when the shirt I ordered from them was lost by the shipper, they basically told me "go screw" and refused to replace the shirt or refund it.They also send out unsolicited weird political emails from time to time. And the store smells really mildewed, not good if you have mold allergies like me. Recommend buying from Pendleton in Oregon or Fairbault in Minnesota, both first-class professional businesess and made in USA woolen mills.

Great store with lots of plaid items for everyone young to old! Carolyn was friendly and helpful. We arrived, just seconds after closing time, but she opened the store back up when she saw us come to the door. The flannel shirts were so soft. A plaid/flannel lovers paradise!!! My husband had a hard time selecting a new hunting coat with all the options both in style and plaids. I selected some potholders and a huge wool/fleece backed blanket which had many color/plaid choices as well. I cannot wait to snuggle up in it this winter. Thanks for a great visit and providing us with a little bit of Vermont to take back home with us!

I have worn both the Johnson Woolen Mills famous spruce green wool pants and wool hunting pants for over 40 years! They are very warm. Excellent pants to wear hunting, cutting firewood, or any outdoor activity. The pants are long lasting as well. I highly recommend this product. You won’t be disappointed. They can be passed down to other family members too. Outstanding Quality!!

Now that's what I call flannel!Passed this mill on a drive to Kingdom Trails and made sure to stop by the next day. The shop is well organized and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We had a great time looking at the products and chatting with the employees. Bought a few jackets and flannel quilt squares! The back room is a great spot for quilters looking for beautiful fabric for sewing a souvenir quilt, which is my plan. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back!

I made a 2 hour drive from NY over to Johnson woolen Mills, and I have to say it was very well worth it! Very clean and organized store, wonderful and helpful staff, and huge selection. Large variety of sizes available. No rush to make a choice, take your time and try different ones on. Bought my second Johnson wool jacket. Perfect fit, just like my first. Will be making a return trip! Glad to be able to support a great local business.

WOW !! I recently ordered a wool blanket with flannel lining, a gorgeous wool shirt jacket and a matching scarf. I am blown away by the quality workmanship. The products are all made in-house, yet they still arrived quickly. The stitching is stunning, and I can tell these products will last longer than I will !! Exceptional customer service, and I can see why they’re still around after almost 180 years I’m currently saving my pennies so I can take a trip to the original store in Johnson, Vt & do my Christmas shopping in o e fell swoop.

I ordered a commuter bag to help with some upcoming work trips. I wanted something Vermont that was not the basic black. The color I originally ordered was not in stock. I got a personal call from a very helpful sales staff who recommended an in-stock color. What a Vermont thing to do! The bag came quickly and I'm impressed with the study bottom, hefty hardware and stitching. The wool is so soft! Now I have to look at buying a shirt.

I've purchased a new cold weather old style hunting outfit and several other items I'm extremely happy with what I received and look to buy more in the near future this company is the best woolen mills in the nation ! Wool is the best when hunting deer or bear in the icy cold Pennsylvania woods it keeps me very warm and it's very quiet while moving.

UPDATE: The company has been acquired by a new owner who saw this review and personally called in order to rectify the issue. Very helpful and sent in a shirt with postage paid internationally. Thanks, Gene. Shirt itself is *really* good quality.Horrible customer service. I ordered a 150$+ shirt. They never shared a tracking number with me despite my numerous calls and only did after a lot of pressure. Parcel never arrived, was either delivered to wrong address by USPS or stolen. I contacted the Mills to find out what is their policy and they kept stringing me along to "file a claim with the post office", refusing to provide any more info and being rude. Essentially they unloaded this on me.After I had my claim refused by the post office (naturally, as the parcel according to them has been delivered), I contacted them several times through social media. They outright ghosted me! I am stuck with a 200$ bill with nothing to show for it. Go with a competitor like Duckworth, as if anything happens to the order, you are on your own.P.S. Their shipping costs were suspiciously expensive as well. 22.5 dollars for a shirt from VM to DC?

Never again. Please read carefully through all their reviews and you will see others like this. I was excited to support an American made company and ordered online so I couldn't try the shirt on. A flannel sized for a GIANT came in the mail. It is a reasonably made shirt, but I will have to say maybe $250 is a bit much for the quality. I called about a return/exchange for a smaller shirt and was surprised by how rude the woman on the phone was. At that point I read some of their reviews. Multiple reviews mentioned their rude customer service. They received the shirt I returned and then said I had worn the shirt, got lunch and dog hair on it, and removed the tags. None of these things are true. Stacy Manosh spoke to me on the phone and told me they would not refund or exchange and I would have to pay to have the shirt shipped back to me. She was VERY rude. Awful phone call. All of this for an overpriced shirt I not longer want because of bad associations. You have been warned. Stay away.

A friend challenged me to write an honest review of Johnson Woolen Mills. This is about the product, not the store or the customer service. Frankly customer service isn’t needed, the product speaks for itself. I was born and raised in Vermont. I have worn my step father’s Johnson Woolen Mills green wool pants and green plaid jacket since 2012. He bought both when he returned from Vietnam in 1972. I currently live in Alaska. I now own several other Johnson Woolen Mills products, vintage and new. At -40F I am warm in the overalls over hunting pants and Mackinaw with a shirt. Sitting on a rain swept Alaskan mountain top waiting for caribou I am warm in just the hunting pants and jack shirt. Hunting whitetail from an tree stand fending off ticks in November, wool pants and a flannel. Occasionally a rubber fishing suit over it all if temps dip below freezing. My mother had to felt a hole in my new pants that was from catching a metal corner on a truck hitch and the 1970’s era jacket elbow from a motorcycle accident. Those are the only repairs ever needed. This is an honest review from someone who has lived in these products for several hunting seasons. They are worth every penny and more. If you want a soft, supple, flammable, unreliable synthetic and a trendy hat to match your manicured beard then shop elsewhere. This is wool, it feels like wool, it wears like wool, it looks like wool, and it is as dependable as wool.Update: Customer service was amazing, the store is a dream.

I recently bought the Johnson Woolen Mills Ladies Anorack Wool Jacket and I love it! It's warm, comfortable, and has great features like flannel lining, two pockets, lined hood, and drawstring waist. The sturdy front zipper and roll-up cuffs make it even better. I highly recommend this jacket.

Don’t buy anything from this company I ordered Benoit jacket and wool hunting pants both never came I called over the phone and they charged my card $591 I’ve been fighting for over a month to get my money back they won’t refund it because they have no receipt on their end no proof whatsoever that they charged my card terrible service on the phone they constantly put down their own employees in the shop. Many excuses even from the owner who said to file a claim with united Postal Service that would be great if they actually had a tracking number. Long story short I had to go to my bank today in file a claim. Worst service ever don’t buy any wool hunting apparel from this place check out the reviews on Google I’m not the only one. So much for trying to keep it made in the USA

Horrible customer service. Bought a dog coat from website. Used sizing chart, measured dog, and bought accordingly with what should have been room to spare according to their chart. It wasn't even close to what their chart had, it was way too small when we tried to get it on our dog. Discussed it with somebody at Johnson and they said it was fine and we could ship it back and pay for the next size up. We shipped it to them and they then sent the coat back to us with a note saying they couldn't exchange worn items, despite us telling them we had tried it on our dog. They were willing to cash the check we sent them for the difference between the two coats though. So now we're out $50 for the original coat and then they STOLE the money from the check for the difference and basically told us "what are you going to do about it".We won't be buying from them again. We'll purchase from Vermont Flannel instead in the future I guess. We have found their quality better anyway.Also, not keen on supporting this company afters seeing some of their views written about in other reviews.

I have to say, I am very pleased with my experience at Johnson Woolen Mills the other day at their factory store in Johnson, VT. Despite the reviews, the staff are wonderful people and were a lot of fun to talk to. Now, given the reviews I can understand the perspective but it’s a certain type of hardy Vermont humor and fun and it’s very easy to get past what some might consider tough. However, Johnson Woolen Mills isn’t really even for that kind of person. The quality is phenomenal compared to any wool I’ve owned and they even helped me tailor a specific coat to my needs. For those of you like myself who are hard working true New Englanders you will have no problem with the staff, let alone the products. I plan to use my new coat and flannel to work the upcoming harsh winters building homes and I am sure they will keep me warm for winters to come. Keep up the good work JWM!

Received two wool shirts via UPS today. Exceptional quality!! Ordered on- line, but also called with a few questions. Woman who helped me couldn't have been nicer!!! Will never purchase another item from them again....As a summary:Pants are tight and thin, Customer service is RUDE, Reviews on their website are masked - they delete any review that's not positive, and the return policy is not explained completely, and extremely strict.The Wool Pants I purchased run very small, and are very thin. They came unhemmed, so I read their return policy, and called to ask about getting them hemmed for my wife. It says no where that a return will not be accepted if the pants are hemmed for you, from them, and no one told me over the phone. Having never purchased wool clothing, and having never worked in clothing retail... AND, since almost EVERYTHING comes hemmed in todays world.... I didn't think anything of it. I also have returned pants that have been hemmed multiple times to L.L. Beans.After finding that they ran extremely tight I tried to return them, and was told it was "Common sense" that you can not return a hemmed product. I would have thought that it would be common sense to write a quality return policy. I would also think it "Common Sense" not to be rude to your customers.After the customer service I had, and the experience with not only the inability to return them but the overall quality of the pants, and the quality of the hem job, They've lost a customer for life - and the word of mouth that would have brought.I would strongly suggest going Elsewhere. Filson is more expensive but a MUCH higher quality business and product.I would also beware of the misleading reviews on their website, as all their reviews require approval.UPDATE:I left an honest review of the pants on the website. It was not a good review, so it was removed.
