I was looking for breakfast, and while on my way to a suggested place, passed the North River Bakery. Making a U-turn and stopping was the best thing I could have done. It's a cute little place, family owned, and the pride shows. The coffee was outstanding, my fresh-baked salt bagel with cream cheese made my breakfast, and when I got home and added some smoked salmon, my lunch. Oh, and on the way out town when my event at the school was finished, I stopped back to pick up the homemade macaroni and cheese "pie" I had seen in the case. I had some of that for dinner. And later on, a couple of nibbles. And, I'm having it for dinner tonight. You get the point.Full marks, folks! I live an hour away, but I can seriously see myself making the trip again to stock up!

I travel to Southern Vermont and the Berkshires several times a year to camp, kayak, hike, & xc ski and am always looking for delicious ways to fuel the adventures. The North River Bakery is outstanding!!! Over a few different visits this summer I've tried their quiche, breakfast sandwiches, croissants, plain and everything bagels, plain, blueberry, and chocolate caramel cheesecake*, whoopie pie, chocolate cupcake with buttercream frosting*, carrot cupcake with cream cheese frosting*, pumpkin cream cheese bars*, blueberry danish, peach & cheese squares, maple pecan coffee cake, and ham & cheese twists. Everything has been fresh and absolutely delicious.As an added bonus, the bakery is located next to a charming park outfitted with benches and picnic tables - it's a delightful spot to relax and enjoy the delectable goods. I can't wait to visit again and wish the owners tremendous success.*pictured

Fabulous! Did not know my little breakfast sandwich - egg, cheddar, fresh spinach on english muffin - was going to be so perfect and OMG the banana cream pie! So good, not too sweet, so fresh. An excellent bakery with much sweetness flowing about and not just the pastries - has a lovely feel about it. Go! Eat! Have a drive over, even a long one.

Whether you live in the village, or you're on your way through from parts north or south, I can't imagine why you wouldn't stop at the North River Bakery in Jacksonville, Vermont. As my step-daughter puts it, their fresh fruit tarts are, "...the best thing I've EVER eaten!" Treat yourself and enjoy!

We love this bakery. Everything is baked fresh daily and is amazing. The sticky buns and mini cheese cakes are especially delicious. The owners are really nice as well. This place is a gem and well worth seeking out in Jacksonville, Vermont.

really well executed desserts and pastries here! It's worth a trip out of your way to stop here. The napoleon was flaky and light. The pastry creme filling was perfect, good vanilla flavor with a creamy texture. The raspberry filled cream puff was delicious as well. The raspberry filling was light as air. We've also enjoyed their sandwiches. Everything we've had here is professional and well done.

What a gem. Their Ham and Cheese Croissant is sublime and their Italian Bread is gorgeous. Perfectly sturdy crust with a lush, pillowy interior. Perfection.

Got to have a gluten free cupcake today, and I was very happy! Gluten free is hard, I know, I've done enough baking to find this out. And while I don't have a sensitivity to gluten I do to wheat, so everything has to be gluten free, and I also have a sensitivity to cows milk so finding it dairy free was a happy happy bonus! The cupcake was moist with a good crumb, it had some level of density but not so much that you feel like you're fighting through it, and the chocolate flavor was just perfect! And of course the frosting was delicious too and made it nice for a cupcake sandwich (you know, where you separate the top from the bottom and then put them back together so the frosting is in the middle.)My partner and his grandparents had the mini cheesecakes, all of them were very happy with these. They said they were just rich enough and the crust was a great texture without being too much, you know how sometimes it's more crust than cheesecake and the mini size felt right to them, enough to make your soul happy but not so much to upset the belly.

We went the other day for the first time and it was very difficult to just pick one thing to get. We got the blueberry and cherry cheesecake bites and they were absolutely delicious! Fresh, moist, and a perfect crust. We definitely plan on going again soon to try some of their other options and we will definitely update our review and add photos!

When no other area bakers would make me a specialty pie - the North River folks did. Exceeded my expectations and I am a return customer now. Really nice people.

Life is too short not to indulge in some delicious sweet treats and this is definitely the place to get them. I stop every weekend that we're in VT and am never disappointed. Get there early, if you can, for a more varied selection, because there are many others who feel as I do. There's also fresh baked bread and breakfast/lunch sandwiches.

The owner and her sons were warm and cordial when we stomped the snow from our boots and peered in to see what they were concocting in there. A quarter of an hour later, after we had rapped about all manner of meandering arcana, they sent us on our way with a modest bundle of marvels: neapolitans, eclairs, a chocolate torte, and a lemon bar. Everything was wicked tasty, but more importantly, distinctive. These folks are off to a hot trot and a great start. Pop in if you live in the area. You will be quite happy you did.

Yes! Sweet little stop in Jacksonville. The bakery was a warm, friendly place on a cold, snowy day. I was surprised by their cinnamon buns. Their doughy, cinnamony goodness was not what I expected, and the crispy, sugary edge balances it all nicely.
