Wow, I had a great experience on this trip to REI. I had to get in on the last day of their killer sale.I wanted to find a pretty legit camping chair and this was the perfect excuse. I got some great advice from Courtney. She knows her chair stuff! The rest of the staff was great. Graham checked me out and got a chuckle out of me with his humor. I appreciate the well placed bike racks out front as I rode my bike in this day. Also appreciate the electric vehicle charging stations as well, way to be on top of your game, REI!

REI SLC has the best snowboard and bike shop! Love this location! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly! I always tell everyone I know to shop with REI SLC because it is the best outdoor store around! This is the REI Wonderland tent and I love it!

At 10 minutes of 8 PM when they split listed and supposed to be open, they turn their phones off so you can’t ask a question. I would say that’s bad for business. I’ve never experienced that at any REI they are open when they say they’re open they close when they say they close. Their phone recording says they’re open till 10 PM, but they are closed for the day. Why? The customer is clearly not as important but the comfort of the employees not a great place to patronize. Without ever going there, I will not go there and buy my product elsewhere. If they don’t care to be of service till the hours they list, I don’t wanna go there and find out what else they don’t care about. We all have a right to support the business as we choose one that is responsible, I will support.

My go-to store for gears and equipments for any outdoor activities. They have everything you need for camping, skiing, cycling, kayaking, running, hiking, fishing, etc. They carry quality products and top brands. They also have in-shop repairs and services. They have wide selections to choose from. Clean and well organized store. And most of all, friendly and knowledgeable staff that will provide you technical specifications for gears you need and to keep you safe on your choice of sports or fitness.

Customer Service is lost on this place.I've had two poor recent interactions here. The associates are too absorbed in their own heir of self righteousness to care about customer service.First, I was shopping for a sleeping pad. I was at the display where they have the demos available. I pulled one from the display and placed it on the floor to test it. I'm not a veteran sleeping pad shopper so I was unaware of any store etiquette for this. A sales associate came by as I was picking one up and insisted I use the platform built on the other side of the display, that was not immediately visible, to test them out on, instead of the floor. Made sense. I was immediately apologetic and started to move that direction with the pad. She doubled down to reinforce her point that they just didn't want the pads on the dirty floor. Yes, I got that the first time and already apologized. But she felt the need to scold me like a child. Then she walked away; never once asked if I needed any assistance. After purchasing a sleeping pad, I had to return to the store a few days later because I discovered that valve was defective. I went to the return/exchange counter. There were three associates there and I was the only customer at the time. I stated I had purchsed the pad the other day and it had a faulty valve. The associate behind the register started immediately processing the transaction without any follow-up questions other than what she needed to find the purchase on my membership. One of the associates was sitting on a nearby bench and stated he was on break but didn't want to be in the breakroom because it was lonely. I can relate. However, the three of them started conversing like I was invisible. I had to interrupt them to let them know I wanted to do an exchange. Again came another mini lecture about how it's easier (for them) to get the product I want to do the exchange for before going to the counter. So again, I apologized and went to the other far end of the store to get a replacement. I returned to the counter where I realized I grabbed the wrong size as the product was color coded the same, and in the same bin as the size I needed. So again, I went to the other side of the store to get the correct one. Meanwhile, the three associates kept their unrelated conversation going, and never once offered to help.I'm over it. I shouldn't need a rule book or lesson on REI etiquette to shop at a store. As a patron, I expect to be treated as a priority over socialization.I've had multiple exemplary interactions at Scheel's instead. I suppose it's time to divert my business there.A few other gripes: I've had an unplanned purchase of multiple small items only to discover at the register that they have no bags. I had to shove them all in my pockets to get to my car.I can take my dog into a Sierra Trading Post and Scheel's, but not an REI. I know I'm not entitled to this. But I wish REI would revisit this policy.

LJ was so helpful and friendly! Needed new locks for my ski rack and he hooked me up with what I needed and threw them on for me to show me how they’re properly installed. Would recommend this location for sure!

The #1 feature of this huge store for me is the customer service. I have never walked into the store and not been greeted, and then approached by a team member asking what I need and how they can help.I have purchased a number of items over the years, and have come to really enjoy that you can depend on the brands they carry. This store is NOT a discount store, but is high-end climbing, mountaineering, camping, and outdoor clothing. You can find the coolest little gadgets that make camping so much more enjoyable. I have a backpack from them that I have used for years, and still get asked if I just purchased it.I wish there were something that I could compare REI to in the Salt Lake area, but there simply is not. They have set themselves apart and really the only downside that I can see, is that their stuff last SO LONG that the must count on repeat purchases to upgrade all of a persons outdoor gear.

Good shopping experience at REI for the first time. Suprised prices were not cheaper than in Canada. With such a difference in our currency I was expecting gear to be cheaper but everything I checked was equal to items back home. Clearance items were plentiful so did nab some Chaco sandals which are no longer sold in Canada.

I believe I was helped by Mike today in the Ski Boots section. Mike was so helpful, informative and kind to me. I was looking for good beginner boots and he taught me a lot of what I should look for in terms of comfort, why they matter and things to keep in mind. At the store I couldn't thank Mike enough for his help so THANK YOU MIKE!

Came in ready to purchase a product. Asked an employee if they had it in a certain size we were told they did have that size in stock then left us waiting with no further communication. I left and purchased the product at another outdoor store because of this situation. Painful retail experience

Very friendly and helpful staff. It's absolutely worth having a membership at REI (in particular for their stellar return policy). I can shop with confidence at this store based on the employee assistance and membership benefits.

REI is an amazing store. I give it 4 stars for quality and selection. We just rented backpacking gear and the quality and rental price are great. However, it is not my first choice because i can get similar and sometimes exactly the same gear for less at other places. REI is guaranteed to have what you want, but you will pay top dollar.

Really big store, with a bunch of options in everything outdoor. Nice staff, I could spend hours inside. You can also rent equipment for ski and snowboard if you like.

Realized I had a flat tire and no spare tubes at 7pm on a Sunday (preparing for Monday morning commute). REI was the only place open to get a tube and they fixed it in 5 minutes!

Just bought a new airbag and had some questions about it. Lincoln went above and beyond to help answer all of my questions and even walk me through how to fill the canister, etc. Thanks again for the help!!

It's a decent enough store. Though I feel their prices are a bit steep. You should really price check online before considering buying from them, chances are you'll find it quite a bit cheaper elsewhere. But if you're in a pinch they do have a huge selection and are close to big cottonwood canyon and little cottonwood canyon.

I’ve been going into this location for years but never used their ski or bike service. It was the best, smoothest experience I’ve ever had from a bike service perspective. Rex was helping me at the counter, and I probably had a 30 second interaction with Tucker, who I overheard has been working there for 15 years! Hats off to him. He was phenomenal. Best service I’ve had in a long while.

Employee told me to go shop somewhere else because I said they are ripping of consumers with high prices $$$ for cheaply made chinese products. Employee said " REI products are not made in China." I showed the employee the tag on one of the REI coats that clearly stated " MADE IN CHINA." Cheaply made Chinese sweat shop products sold here for $$$. Ripping off consumers.

Great place to find everything you need. Jeremy Christiansen was especially helpful. Finally someone who understands customer service!Edit: I can't say enough about Jeremy. He is the best employee REI has. They should promote him. I went in again last week and he was so helpful.

Terrible service. I took my e-bike to get the brakes fixed because they were squealing. One girl told me I could upgrade them with 4 piston calipers. They fixed the front brake but the back one started squealing. I took it back and the guy didn't even offer to look at it and told me I would have to take it to another place to get the brakes updated. Very poor customer service and very poor work in not fixing the problem. I shouldn't have to take my bike in 3 times to get if fixed and it's still not working. Disgusted. Go some where else and NOT REI bike service. Terrible.
