Edit: Note the response back from the owner - seems like a lovely fellow that stands behind his products and services. Is this the type of person you want to do business with? One who blames the customer and takes no responsibility for poor quality animals and services? One who focuses on making the problem the customer's fault? One who berates you in person, then berates you online when you post a truthful review of your experience with his company?Also, the two mice deaths and terrible service all occurred within 30 days of the original purchase, and I have the receipts to prove it (see attached). If you are willing to lie about something as silly as timeframes, what else would you be willing to lie about?Review:My experience with these folks has been simply terrible. I purchased two of the fancy rats from Pet Planet on May 27th. These rats were going to be our new family pets, and my kids were excited to welcome them to our family. For the most part, the initial purchase went ok. The person who was working that day helped answer questions, and generally seemed friendly. The one thing that struck me odd about our conversation was a last minute comment as I was leaving the store. He said "Let me know if you run into any health issues." I thought this a bit odd, and wondered what potential health issues the rats had for such a comment to be made.Fast forward 10 days - my family went on vacation out of state and had our neighbors checking in daily on our rats. Three days into our vacation, and 13 days since our initial purchase, one of the rats dies in the middle of the night. Our neighbors checked on them bright and early and found her in her cage dead. They sent us a picture of the dead rat, and disposed of her.Fast forward a few days, and I return to the store to see if they would give me a new rat. Considering that I had the rat for less than two weeks before it died, I hoped they wouldn't hassle me about getting a new rat, free of charge. I was wrong. The person on duty that day expected me to bring the dead rat in as proof, and generally harassed me about the legitimacy of my claim. I spent a solid 5 minutes discussing what happened before he committed to getting me a new rat, but even then he was hesitant to do the right thing.Skip forward to a week. My wife checks in on the rats and finds that the second of the original pair is dead. She died during the night, and rigor mortis set in by morning. We ended up putting the rat in a bag in the freezer, so that I could provide proof that my second rat died.I call Pet Planet around 10:52am, and was verbally abused by the person on duty for a good 5 minutes. He wouldn't listen to my concerns, and immediately dived into defensive mode placing the blame on me. He berated me on the phone, consistently spoke over me, raised his voice on multiple occasions, and when I asked for the manager, he told me he was the manager! Ultimately, he said he’d refund my money and then promptly hung up on me.When I went in to get a refund, I was interrogated for a solid 10 minutes. What food had I been feeding them (the food I bought from you), what bedding did they use (the bedding I bought from you), how did they die (I must look like a vet or something)? After being verbally abused for the second time that day, the “manager” only refunded a portion of my original purchase, despite me returning everything I originally purchased. He told me “I was lucky he let me return anything at all”.Overall, my experience with these amateurs was simply terrible. If you need some verbal abuse and terrible customer service in your life, I’d recommend this pet shop. If you’re looking for quality pets and customer service, avoid them at all costs.

I think people are way to quick to judge this place and the care they give their animals. I come in every other day for bugs and overtime I have seen just how much time they spend with each animal every single day. The only employee I see working there is Emily, most of the time I come in and see her hard at work but she is always quick to finish up what she’s doing and then come help me. She’s super nice, very helpful, and you can tell how much she loves her job. Overall awesome customer service. The puppies always appear happy and energetic. Just in the 10 minute time span that I am there I see an almost endless amount of people asking the manager if they can hold a puppy, I really don’t think any of the animals are lacking anything but someone to bring them home. Lastly, this store has the widest variety of animals and animal supplies I have ever seen! I can always count on them to have something I’ve been looking for.

I absolutely love coming to this store for food for my animals. The staff is amazing and very sweet. The quality of the products is perfect and I couldn't ask for better. I live in West Jordan and live right by a pet store and I still drive here just to get my stuff. They handle things very professionally and make it an overall great trip. I really enjoy the fact that they have many different selections of insects to feed my babies unlike the other pet stores I have been to and at an amazing price. I would 100% recommend coming here for your pets supplies.

The employees here are always super helpful and are very knowledgeable about every type of pet out there. Their prices are great! Cheaper than your typical pet store. They definitely have more options as far as pets and pet supplies go. The employees are allowed to bring their dogs to work, so I love that there's always a furry friend to greet you when you come in! They have definitely earned my business.

I had never shopped at Pet Planet before, but after a bad experience at a larger pet store chain nearby, I decided to check it out. The staff here were very friendly, helpful, and appreciative of my business. The animals looked healthy and happy, and I am pleased to have found this local business to continue to support.

Good selection of reptiles and reptiles products, nice staff, and mostly healthy looking animals... But the store is pretty filthy. I've worked at multiple small pet stores, in addition to visiting many others. There is visible dust on considerable number of products, even cobwebs in some places. The "clearance" section has dirty food/water bowls and even displayed a pretty disgusting looking hamster cage with very used substrate.

They help us every time we are in here. Found out I was allergic yo my sons guinea pigs and they took them so they could find the pair a home. We are in once a week or so for rats for the snake. Other thing is my son says don't use the bathroom. Lol

There so nice here. Ive gone to mark ark and pet supply. Looking into get creasted gecko these 2 stores give me issues, when I cam here they gave me 0 issues they where friendly was like they where my friends. How a store should be. Keep the good work up

After visiting other pet stores and doing our due diligence on them, we came across Pet Planet by Judy driving by. They know how to care for their animals. They care about getting them into good homes more than making a quick $$ buck. Quality, educated, passionate, and the Diamond in the rough Pet Store in south Salt Lake Valley.

This pet store is good for people either shopping for a new pet, or buying accessories for a pet you already own. The dog selection isn't as much as I'd like but it is adequate. There's really no other pet store in the area that sells puppies...that I've found at least. The prices for puppies are really high as well. I would recommend finding a dog at the pound or from a private breeder to try getting a better price. All in all though, it is a nice place to shop for pet stuff.

I loved this little pet store! I keep Tarantulas so I am frequently buying crickets and other feeder insects and I prefer to purchase them at a local store, not one of the big chain retailers. My wife and I walked into Pet Planet and I was surprised to see that they carry a large variety of Tarantulas and they are very well kept, which is an added bonus. The experience of buying feeder insects at this store was a lot easier than trying to buy them at other small pet stores in the area. I will definitely be back to this store and highly recommend it to anyone who keeps Tarantulas, reptiles, or other insects.

Very knowledgeable and warming staff, I've got 3 dogs and 2 snakes. I purchased my most recent dog from them and she is a delight, so glad they had the perfect dog for me. Perfect health and AKC certified, I will continue to see them weekly for my snake needs and anything else I may need for supplies.

I called on a puppy they had, and wasn't sure what to expect. Taylor was really nice and knowledgeable. He explained him over the phone and I decided to give it a try. I am very glad I did. We were able to bring our new family member home with us. We're still debating on Merle or Hank, but we love our new puppy. Taylor was very nice and explained things to me regarding shots, health, food, training. He truly cared about his animals he has in his store. If I have to go to a pet store I think I've found our forever location. The store is as clean as it gets for a pet store, employees actually care about their customers. This was an overall great experience and if your looking to take your business, I'd recommend it be here.

The owners were so nice to let us come in and just look. We enjoyed petting the owner's dog and seeing the puppies. They have such a variety of animals and my granddaughter was in awe of all the cute critters. I am slowly grooming her for a puppy and this place is patient enough to let us work the puppies slowly into our hearts.

Local place that has been around for years so just for that fact I like giving them business when I can. Good selection of Tarantulas at times. Though prices are really hit and miss. Some will be for a great deal others are ridiculously expensive. Store has a bit of a smell but I think it must be under new management as the smell and overall cleanliness has improved quite a bit and seems to keep improving. There were a few years where I would never go here. If they continue the improving they way they have been im sure they can be 5 stars in no time. Lately I've only seen the same two staff members and they are both way awesome and keep me coming back as well as its great to see the store being reareanged and updated with products.

Always have fast friendly service here. I personally always see healthy animals here and enjoy stopping in for a visit. The pets I have gotten from here are all taken care of and are very healthy since I got them (years). They have a vet service Tuesdays and I am currently boarding a pet there. Feel free to ask about the service. I'll update on the boarding service after I retrieve my Sulcata.

Staff here is amazingly friendly! The animals are all very well taken care of. The cages are very clean but unfortunately the building is really gross. I wish they could clean it up a little bit. They always have everything we need and you can pre-order 500 crickets for $20! That is amazing!

We came across Pet Planet while searching for parakeets. Because we live so far away, I called first to inquire about the selection. The man on the phone was very helpful and answered all of my questions. We instantly fell in love with this store as soon as we walked in. My kids could have stayed and looked at and played with all of the animals all day. We left with 3 super cute, very healthy birds and everything we needed. We will most definitely be returning in the future!

The gentleman at the counter was very knowledgeable about my bearded dragon hatchling, was helpful and courteous. Also, their insects are cheaper in price than the big chain stores, with more live variety to choose from. I purchased a prepaid card to use towards buying crickets, and it has proven to be very handy and convenient!! When we were going to Petco, I was having a problem with our crickets having severe spasms and then dying within 24 hours of purchase... Which was super frustrating and very costly. This is why i started looking elsewhere to begin with, and ran into this little gem of a store! We haven't had any issues with the crickets from Pet Planet... so far, so good 😉. I would ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND this local business to anyone who has a pet!! Thank you Pet Planet!! Keep up the good work! 😁

I've been coming here for years! I enjoy the shop only pet store by me that offers snakes and Trantulas, the manager can get some amazing snakes. Staff is always friendly love the dogs that welcome you just like the staff.The other customers are loyal ones to its amazing here I love seeing the new Trantulas and snakes.

I've stopped by this store many times and have seen cages that are clean and animals that are in good condition. My wife and I love to stop by and look at the puppies and I plan on buying an Argentine tegu lizard from them once we have a bigger house. Sure, it's not the cleanest place, but that's what a real pet shop is like, and the employees are kind and helpful. My wife and I love this place!

My husband and I h recently moved to Bluffdale. We have been going to this other store to get crickets for our spiders. They aren't bad but they would sit there for 5 minutes to make sure you get the exact amount of crickets even if they are dead. We decided to check out Pet Planet and wow! What a difference the service was excellent, they know what they are doing with theor spiders and the environment each of them needs. I highly recommend it.

They have cute puppies but the price is very steep. Also tons of amphibians and hamsters, etc.Personally I wasn't impressed with the prices for everything I looked at. There isn't really anything here that you couldn't purchase elsewhere for a much better price.They did have a good selection for repltiles and bird habitats.

We recently went in looking for a pet for our daughter. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ended up choosing a bearded dragon and they were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in all of the things we would need.I will definitely go back in the future.They have a large variety of animals and each cage looks well taken care of.

My kids and I really enjoy visiting this pet store. We bought a lizard here last year, and they have always been more than willing to help out whenever we have questions. The lizard was healthy when we bought it as a baby, and they have helped us keep it that way as it has grown. We still buy our crickets here, because they are WAY better quality and much cheaper than at the big box stores like PetSmart. Could be spruced up a little, but I have had nothing but positive experiences.

I come in here weekly to pick up crickets for my tarantula. The staff is always super helpful. Anytime I have owned other pets, even if they were not purchased here, the staff is always there is answer my questions and make sure I have the knowledge to raise my pets. I chose this pet store over the large chains because they are one-on-one, remember me and my family and my pets, and they care about all of the animals within their care.

The guy is so helpful and helped me figure out what to get for my betta fishes and he helped me set up my filter because I couldn't figure it out. Thank you for being so kind and helpful to me and my kids!! Love this place and the employees rock!! :) definitely recommend going here.
