Darron Allred has an amazing collection of cichlids! I grabbed a small juvenile Turkana Jewel from him. It’s going to be awesome to see it grow up to the brightly colored breeder he had at the store!If you just want a history lesson I’d swing by his house! He only sells individual fish locally. he ships his fish fry all over the USA! He has a really awesome setup!

I was late night shopping for fish and realized there was only one fish store open that late. I got there and it looked like a normal house, but it was not! Even though we showed up pretty late he happily showed us his excellent fish!

The store is in the basement of a house. We made an appointment to come by and the owner was very helpful and knowledgeable. He was very kind. The fish are well kept and cared for. Much healthier and happier than a big box fish store. We'll have a couple weeks until we have our tank ready for fish, so we'll be back.

The family that owns the tanks and the fish are just hobbyists that love breeding fish. We stopped in without any intention of buying anything and the owner showed us all the fish and told us all sorts of little facts about the fish like it were the Draper Aquarium. I saved the ~$27 entry fee I would have payed had I gone to the aquarium though (roughly the price of a few freshwater African fish).

After going to 3 stores and not finding the unique fish we were looking for we decided to give Allreds a try. Yes it's oin his basement and that made us pause but as they say about book covers, we were amazed!! Darron is so knowledgeable and interesting we could have listen to him talk about fish all night! We left with 4 fish that were exactly what we wanted. I'm going to him only from now on. Support our locals!!
