We did a road trip in the west and this is one of the most memorable stays! The rooms were really clean, the staff was very friendly and the location was amazing. We arrived at night to wake up the next morning at this wonderful sight...Some elements in the rooms are a bit dated but it didn't really make any difference during our stay (it mght have added some charm actually) and we didn't anticipate a luxury hotel after all. This is an excellent choice if you want to stay near the great sights Utah and Arizona have to offer and have a stay that you'll remember later. Totally recommended!Nearby activities: It's a few minutes drive from Monument Valley and other attractions.Food & drinks: Complimentary coffee or tea at the cafe.

Is it a luxury resort? No. Is it clean, charming, and kitschy fun? Yes. The person at the the front desk was very friendly, the room was clean and comfy, if a little old, and there are lots of little seating areas where you can sit and watch the river go by. Also, shampoo and conditioner are in pumps, instead of single use bottles. All hotels should do this, so I’ve decided to always mention it.

It was a nice little place and they seemed to have some free roaming cats around, the rooms aren't 5 star hotel worthy but they'll get you by and have fridges bathrooms and beds which is all I need. The stay at this place is definetly worth it for the sights around.Noteworthy details: The hotel is right on the river, and those staying there have free access to a path down, there's tons of pretty rocks!

We stayed here one night.First thing the place is very unassuming…. Very clean rooms and AC worked great (+99F outside). The owner / operator was checking people in and was telling people “feel free to go and take a look at the room first if you want”…Quiet too, we didn’t hear a thing.Yes it’s old, but maintained. It’s in the right hands. I had a good discussion with the owner and learned lots about the history of the property and the area too.The gift shop has many local and surrounding area items for sale, nice selection and quality.Breakfast in the restaurant next door was top notch. Personable service and well done. Menu reflects local area flair.Hummingbirds (a ton right outside the window) were so nice to watch, and a little gecko too.We will definitely be back. Thanks for the hospitality.Rooms: Clean. Quiet. AC working great at 100F outside. Nice bed too.

Wish I'd stayed longer! Fantastic room in a great location - a short drive from Mexican Hat rock and the Valley of the Gods, and about 30 mins from Monument Valley. Could easily spend 2 nights/three days exploring and enjoying the riverside vibes. The diner across the road from reception is excellent with lovely staff. There's several great spots around the hotel from which to view the river and enjoy the sunset. Would absolutely return and recommend it to everyone.

A retrospective review....stayed here for 2 nights June 2022. Voted our best stay on our 2 week States trip....yes, its labeled 2-star and situated in the middle of nowhere....we thought it brill! Room was more than adequate, staff were very friendly...even Brookzilla :). Meals were fine, beers available, views over the river, horses and noisy burro, superb sunset, surprisingly lots to see in the area.....loved it!

This place is full of cockroaches!!! On the first sight it looked very nice especially the surroundings but there are so many things that were unacceptable about our room! The door of our room could not be locked and especially traveling with two young children we felt not comfortable. The air conditioning blew right onto our bed which of course could not be changed (turning it off was no option with temperatures like this at the Moment). The worst part where the cockroaches all over the bathroom which left their poop in the sink an on the towels. Thank god we stayed just one night. The front desk lady were super rude to us. We can not recommend this Place at all and it’s a rip off!

I had a comfortable experience staying at San Juan Inn.Our room was clean and a good size. The bathroom had been upgraded from what pictures are on their website. The beds were comfortable, toiletries were good quality and though the AC unit was a little loud, it worked well. I appreciated the mini fridge to store personal water bottles etc in.The highlight was the tranquil location. Straddling the San Juan river, you can enjoy a beverage on one of the provided lawn areas to take in the peace and relax after a long day.We chose the property given the proximity to Monument Valley, and the activities we wanted to achieve nearby the following day at Valley of the Gods. You are able to go down to the river, unfortunately it had flooded some time before we arrived and the banks were built up with silt and mud. There are no elevators to the upstairs rooms, ask for a downstairs room if you have difficulties carrying luggage.

Reviewing as a motel, not a trading post.Amazing little spot; almost appears built into the cliffside itself. Extremely scenic. Extremely convenient to the Navajo reservation sites such as Monument Valley. Navajo land is just across the river. Rooms are fine. Wifi is fine. The restaurant is fine, but the hours are somewhat restrictive and there are limited vegetarian options.

Would I return? Unlikely, but the very proximity to Monument Valley is ideal! It is a quick jaunt down the road, and the Inn here is right on the San Juan River. There are bats that you can see at night flying above. If I were to do this location another time, I would stay at BLUFF DWELLINGS in Bluff, NM for a little more. Look it up! Splendid place! Our friend stayed there because he could not get a room in Mexican Hat the same night we stayed here. The rooms are simple, and unassuming, BUT they were quite kept & clean. The bathroom shower can be small depending on the room you get.The restaurant on site had very poor service! Understaffed & new, we think. We were served no eating utensils nor napkins with our burgers. Our beverages were never refilled, and no one returned to check on us after the plates were served. After we patiently waited for our bill after our meals finished, we had to walk to the other end ask to pay.The Sweet potato fries are very good. The Navajo Fried bread was very fun and tasty!Expect to pay about $15 at least for most meals for dinner or breakfast.

A quaint little place built next to a mountainside a few miles north of Monument Valley, the San Juan Inn is a picturesque location, with excellent service and reasonable prices. The bed in was memory-foam, and the shower was granite-tiled and spacious. They have outdoor seating next to a wide river, and a beautiful view from the upstairs rooms and deck seating. The cafe was decent; at this place, your money goes toward the atmosphere, location and service. I would 100% go back again.

We stayed here the nights of May 5th and May 6th. We had booked a "Comfort Queen with coffee service" room and were expecting a room similar to the room shown on the website at the time of booking and on the reservation image posed with this review. What we got was nothing like that and was completelyunacceptable. We were put in Room 45 above the trading post. The room was tiny with no desk or table to sit at/around and the bed was crammed into a narrow space that didn't even have room for a night stand on both sides. The room was very uncomfortable to be in during our stay. The room and tiny bathroom were disgusting with a shower that was filthy (see images).I expressed our concerns to the lady at the desk when we checked out and she said she couldn't do anything and would pass the word on to the owner Julie. I got no response from Julie, so I sent an email to her at the email address that was provided to me. The owner had two chances to make it right and I got zero response from her.

Love this little hotel- it’s getting 1 star because there’s cockroaches all over. I wish I were joking because I really do love this spot- but woke up to 2 cockroaches in the bathroom sink- could see another set of antennas coming out of the drain. After that I had my eyes wide open and could see a couple dead ones on the way down to the main office. It’s too bad, everything else about this hotel is great. But there are definitely cockroaches :(

Great view over the river, relaxing stay, decent selection of fresh cold beverages, alcoholic and non. We didn't try the food at the inn that's there but seemed really popular with everyone there and start were really friendly overall. Atmosphere inside the reception and gift shop was really cool and authentic Navajo and desert-y trinkets and rugs and other textiles. Straight up recommended stay and very good value for money. Would absolutely come here when I'm again in the area for sure, it's THE place, and you've got some extra gems close by as well, like the Mexican Hat Rock and the Goosenecks State Park which are a pretty nice addition to your obvious Monument Valley visit.

My husband and I were stranded with our three kids just outside Mexican Hat when our car quit working. It's pretty dang isolated out there and we were a half day drive from any family. It was a stressful situation made way better by the San Juan Inn. They let us check in early and out late. We basically moved in while we waited for a pick-up. It's a small motel but the rooms were clean and the staff/owner/manager were amazing. There's also a convenient shop on site and a restaurant that serves delicious Navajo fry bread, really good burgers, and Utah beer.

We spent a night in Mexican Hat, Utah on our trip out west. What a lovely experience! This tiny town had a motel when most of the tiny towns in the area do not. Our room at the San Juan Inn room had Native American artwork inside, views on the San Juan river outside, and scores of humming birds outside the restaurant windows. It was clean and comfortable. We did not expect five star appointments, nor were we charged for them. The restaurant offered a good variety and well prepared breakfasts. Proximity to the river and walking path along the river was a nice surprise. Exploring in the shop when checking in was a nice surprise. The several places to sit outdoors and enjoy the atmosphere or have a bite to eat were very pleasant. The San Juan Inn was a far superior experience than the Courtyard by Marriott in Grand Junction, CO. We would come here again for sure.

I booked a room with a king bed. When I checked in, the gentleman at the desk stated they didn’t get a room with a king bed cleaned that day but he had a room with 2 Queen beds. We checked in at 6pm. Upon arriving in the room we found we had 2 full beds that seemed to have a hole in the middle of the bed.The restaurant however had great food and great service.

We chose the San Juan because it was a convenient location relative to Forest Gump Rd, leading to Monument Valley. Adjacent to the rooms there is an upstairs deck with warm lighting and comfortable seating which was a good pre-dinner drinks location with a scenic view. The adjacent San Juan Cafe was great for dinner but we left too early to get breakfast. We'd come back based on this experience.

My boyfriend and I randomly booked the San Juan online after a long day of exploring around Monument Valley- and we were so shocked at how gorgeous and unique this place was! It’s a no-frills kind of motel, but who cares! Especially when it’s nestled in the rocks and right on the river with access to explore down there (and donkeys!). The staff was super friendly and gave us lots of information and recommendations on things to do in the area. The restaurant feels so ‘wild west’ - and everything we ordered was delicious. (The fries are so good!) the servers were super friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone who isn’t an entitled “Karen”, and would get mad that they don’t have the best towels, or something stupid like that.

It's obvious the owners have passion for this place. It's very clean, has a lot of character and extras in the decor. The people are very welcoming and friendly. The location is great. We stayed here 2 nights spending one day on a jeep tour exploring Monument Valley. It was perfect!! I highly suggest you choose this place. We stayed in the Deluxe Double room. A lot of space. Worth the extra $. Food at restaurant was great too!In a previous review someone said you have to pay for ice. No, they have a free ice machine midway in building. Just look for it.

We had reserved a suite with a deep tub but when we got there the room only had a shower. The room had lots of windows and not enough drapes to cover them. They had a security light right outside our room that went off and on all night long. Bed was rock hard! The room was ok the location was pretty. Dining options are very limited and we drove 30 minutes to the next town to find something. Very basic hotel but a nice place to stop if you need to rest for the night. The river view is very nice and was a great place to relax in the evening!

It was a great stop on our way to Durango! The room was clean, restaurant served delicious food, all members of staff were very kind and friendly! Went down to the river, loved having such close access!!Yes, some amenities within rooms are older, but that didn't bother us. WiFi worked fine, and was able to make calls. I saw some reviews saying people couldn't make calls because of cell service, and I'm not sure what that has to do with the facility. That sounds like an issue with those individual's cell phone providers.Definitely staying here again in the future!
