Such an amazing experience! The most beautiful sites I have ever seen, accompanied by an incredible guide, Mike. He was very knowledgeable, funny, and kind. It felt like fishing with an old friend. Absolutely worth a visit.

Man what can I say, I had a last minute work cancellation so I decided to race to loa I got to the fly shop at 9am mike was outside and I explained that I would like to spend some time browsing the shop and learning what fly patterns work best and stock up, but I didn't have time. I had just started my Utah cutthroat slam and needed to ensure I get my Colorado before the long drive back to cedar City! Mike pulled up Google maps on my phone and made me several pin points varying from no hiking just get right into a Colorado instantly to some hiking and some hard to land absolute toads!I was able to get into my Colorado on the first cast and used the rest of my time trying for more! I will definitely be back and booking his service to make sure he understands how much I appreciate the help and warm welcome!

Michael Arthur James, Named after an Angel, a King and a Saint. He was all three for us! Our group of six were rusty or first timers. He patiently and expertly quickly had us all fly casting like pros. And the fish, everyone caught fish and we all had an amazing day on the alpine lakes. He made us an amazing lunch and was the perfect guide. He exceeded our expectations. My daughters and sons thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did I ! I can’t Wait to take clients and take my family again! Highly recommended! He knows the lakes, flys and fish! Love this guy!

I was taking a family vacation to Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef, and took a day to go fly fishing with Mike. It was a day well spent, and he connected everyone in the family with a brown trout on the Fremont River, despite widely varying skill level among the four of us. He brought his son along who paired up with two of us, while Mike paired up with the other two. Mike was knowledgeable, and matched our destination with the skill level of the anglers involved. An easy to fish stream, with an opportunity to find some bigger browns. While we didn't catch any trophy fish, Mike made us feel welcome and helped us to all catch fish. He explained enough to assist with fishing the various spots. I must say, his son was shaping up to be a good guide as well. Many thanks Mike.

Loa, Utah. Located in south central Utah on the plateau surrounded by mountains. About 7000' in elevation. What a neat little town! The Snuggle Inn is a nice place to stay.We went there to fish with The Quiet Fly Fisher - Mike and Troy. Excellent guides! Due south of Loa is Boulder Mountain. Tons of water up there. We've fished a few high mountain lakes (10000' +) and a little stream. The lakes we fished had grayling and brookies. Little Pine Creek - you can step across it - was stuffed with little natural cutthroats.....tons of them. Then there was UM Creek. We've fished 2 sections - Mike's "secret" section and the upper reaches of it. Mike's "secret" section, the fishing was outstanding! Loads of tiger trout and gorgeous cutthroats. In this section, most of the creek isn't much bigger than 10-12' across and only a couple of feet deep; BUT there are lots of trout and some really large ones! The upper reaches of the creek are around 9000'. You drive through a large aspen forest (beautiful!) and out to the creek. The scenery and the fishing are excellent. All we caught up there were cuts.Of course, a short drive and you can visit Capital Reef National Park.IT'S WORTH A VISIT!

Driving through Utah looking for places to fish. Stopped by the shop, but he was out guiding. He called me later in the day and although I had left, gave me specific info on places to fish etc., with no expectation I would but flues, gear or anything! I will come back just to book a guided trip because he was so helpful!! Amazing service!

Mike and his guides took our group of 10 inner city kids fly fishing for the first time and they were amazing, kind, and patient! I would definitely recommend Mike for youth groups or anyone new to fishing because he was so helpful and wonderful. He definitely knows his stuff. Thank you!

We spent a 3/4 day with Mike and had an awesome day! Mike was able to get us on exactly the fish we were looking to catch - my husband - cuttthroats, me - large rainbows. Mike is an expert on the area and a wealth of knowledge on the landscape and wildlife, as well as the fishing. We highly recommend booking a trip with him.

Aptly named, Mike’s an understated guide who will get you into a variety of fish on a variety of waters. With 20+ years of operations experience under his belt he attracts a team of great guides Who know the Fremont, Fish Lake and other local waters. Do you know a guy in serious serious when he’s got truck window visors like this...

Mike and his team of guides are top notch. They're talented, knowledgeable, and friendly fisherman that will show you a fantastic day on the water. Don't hesitate to drop in and ask for a bit of local help or to book them for an amazing day of fly fishing.

Had a guide trip with Thomas. I’m not from the area and my goal was to catch a wild Cutthroat. We went into the backcountry and I got some Cutthroats including a very healthy 12+”. Thomas was very knowledgeable and patient. Fantastic day.

Mike is an awesome guide! He's got 20+ years experience guiding, and it really shows. He knows where the fish are and which flies to use to catch them. I had so much fun fishing with him -- caught four brown trout, including one that was the biggest brown I've ever caught, and one pretty little wild rainbow trout. He's a super-nice guy, really patient, and a class act all around. I give him my highest recommendation. :)

My girlfriend and I were vacationing in Utah for a week and decided to book a guided trip with Mike. We drove three hours to fish with Mike and it was very well worth it! My girlfriend has never held a fly rod before the trip. Mike was able to teach her how to cast in a short amount of time, and she was catching fish twenty minutes into the trip. We caught about fifteen good sized trout between the two of us. We both had a fantastic time on the water and would highly recommend this guide service to anyone. Looking forward to the next time I am in Utah so I can book another guided trip!

i have fished with MIKE JAMES for 25 or more years...(i doubt that anyone has spent more times on the rivers ,streams, and lakes with Mike than i have.) I think my 81 years of experience on this earth...along with fly fishing the world (over 80 countrys with hundreds of fishing guides,) gives me the credentials to make a judgement on Mike's......rating as a fly fishing guide. The answer is "He is simply the Best there is"

If you fly fish in Southern Utah, the Quiet Fly Fisher is the shop to go to! Loa is in the middle of many excellent lakes and rivers and the young man running the shop knows all about them. He was happy to share his detailed information along with which of their many flies would work best. The Quiet Fly Fisher has a complete selection of all fly fishing equipment and clothes.

We showed up into town and booked a last minute trip two days away. In the mean time we headed up to boulder with some awesome tips to find some tiger trout. It was an awesome spot. Then back into town for the guided trip with Thomas was stellar to say the least. You can easily tell he knows the waters probably better than the trout living in them. We had a great time and will be stopping here again if we make it back to this part of Utah.

Mike the fly fisher personal guide & propriorter of the Quiet Fly Fisher Fly Shop is the kind of place you want to visit if you want the skinny on a new area to fly fish. Mike seems to have found his poetry of place, and provides a excellent selection of fly patterns. The web site is excellent, and provides good info on lessons and guided fishing adventures. For me his photography on the website shows you what to expect. It's some the best photography on a website I have ever seen, and I was a commercial photographer for over thirty years. Mike reminds me of the book; "The River Why"

I'm 72 and I took my grandson, who will be gone for the next two years, fishing. I wanted it to be special. So I called Mike. Boy was that ever a good decision. He worked with us with to find the best spots, correct flies etc.My grandson and I took turns catching fish. I had never caught so many tiger trout in a stream. Some had the bright orange bellies and were spectacular. We also caught some splake another colorful fish . The largest about 16". Later we got into some rainbows bright silver healthy fish. Before I left I got a schedule to fish with Mike again early in June to go after the brown trout in the lower Fremont. When you go have him tell you the story of the Wild Bunch and the mortgage.

Mike and Doug fully exceeded our expectations and elevated our experience of fly fishing in Utah. Mike put us on 6 different species of trout on Day 1 and Doug put us on 30+ tiger trout on Day 2. Incredible experience and highly recommend this guide service. Down to earth guys and incredibly knowledgeable of the area.

Booked a half-day trip with Mike yesterday and couldn't be more pleased. Though the upper Fremont is smaller and densely wooded, Mike showed me the strategy and technique to fish these types of waters. I caught no less than 30 fish, with a few in the 15" to 17" range. He has opened a whole option for me....thanks Mike!

What an incredible experience in some of America's most scenic landscape. Mike is a master fly fishing instructor and took our 13 year old under his wing for a day he will never forget. It started with a lesson, refining technique, and encouragement. Then a lesson in current, cover, and cuisine. Mike is an amazing teacher without making you feel inferior, even if it's your first time, and you suffer some painful casts, some ending in the tree limbs behind. Mike put us on a bunch of fish, and our son had a ball. Thanks Mike for an incredible day on the river.

Mike and his team are excellent fishermen, and even better people to deal with. Their knowledge of fishing and the local area is impressive. I have been on a trip with them, and fished the area without a guide, and what I learned was incredibly helpful, and their recommendations have been spot on. If you are in the area, I cannot reccomend them strongly enough.
