The best breakfast in Escalante. Our five-year-old loved this place because it has a marble run toy that kept him entertained while our food was being made. Excellent croissant sandwiches and baked goods. And I’m very picky about my croissants!

Best place to stop in the area for great grocery store food. Deli inside offers a variety of options too. I have been stopping here each time I visit the area for years - it is my “go to” for fresh and healthy foods. Younger staff was very nice, older woman behind the coffee counter not as nice. She seem very busy and a bit curt. The place is clean, organized and has a good selection. There is an outdoor seating area to enjoy a fresh sandwich or muffin. They do have vegan options. Pack your patience as it can be busy. Located in a lovely old restored home.

At first I thought great place!Very neat store, well organized and pretty, like my grandma's house. Great selection of natural groceries, fruit, veggies, snacks, souvenirs. Patio with tables and chairs. Friendly staff. Then I ordered a fresh (looking) apple turnover that had cardboard taste (not fresh and warmed by microwave) and a latte, but the store actually does not have a espresso machine. They make what they call "espresso" in little mocha pots on an electric hot plate. Felt betrayed, hence the lower rating.

The best selection of healthy (and tasty) food in the area. Great place to stock up for camping. Love the smoothies. Nice individual ice cream selection. Lots of snacks, chocolates and candy. The veggies are fresh. They have a patio with picnic tables to eat there. The building and display is really well done.

Great little grocery store with lots of natural, organic, local, vegetarian / vegan, and gluten free products. The selection was good but limited since it is a little store and ever so slightly more expensive than the bigger grocery store up the street which didn’t have any organic/natural or special diet products. Amanda (I think that’s her name, with black hair) helped us and she was so very nice, even though we happened to have come just as several other people were trickling in. There was another woman who was a bit more frazzled and curt, but we could tell she was still nice just a bit overwhelmed.

Like a mini Whole Foods in the middle of nowhere. Gluten free, vegan, allergy-friendly food options (ex: Chao vegan cheese, So Delicious desserts). Limited selection of fresh produce. If I travel in with all of my staples but forgot something I'll check this place. Prices are not (in my CA opinion) unreasonably inflated. I was stoked when this place opened years ago because it's difficult to travel with or even find allergy-friendly food items, so it's been very convenient to have options on summer vacation!

This little store has all the grocery, picnic, and natural food supplies you could ask for when planning an afternoon exploring the local hikes. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they went out of their way to make sure we had the little incidentals we'd need for our picnic (forks and napkins).

One of the cutest shops I have been in. The staff was so friendly. The shop had a lot of good items and their sandwiches were great.

The food was great, however it was very crowded and disorganized. The employees would often ask us to do tasks for them. Also when buying groceries it was so disorganized that the casher put our groceries with some one else.

Loved it here! I was greeted by the sweetest boy, Tomme, such a beautiful dog. Coffee was amazing, chocolate croissant is a must! The owner was very informative and helpful, she is very amicable. Seating on the patio had a beautiful scenery, I was very content with everything within the Mercantile store.

The owner is a character. We walked in, were greeted by a kind employee, and ordered four smoothies. Halfway through making our drinks, the employee was accosted by the owner because there was too much product leftover after pouring the smoothies. She proceeded to take over our last two drinks, patronizing and verbally assaulting her employee while holding up a small line to do so. When we were finally handed our smoothies, they were overflowing and one tipped over on the counter, but was served to us anyways. Absurd behavior, and the smoothie recipes were very poor anyways; disappointing. I wish there was a way to support the store without the owner making a profit, because it's nice-looking and has great products, but it's run by a dictator with zero self-awareness and poor management skills.

Overcharged for items at LEAST three days in a row. Each time Marcie had a hard-to-believe excuse for why she didn't type the price in correctly or it didn't match the sign/pricetag. Extra dollar for the dishtowel? Oh "sign is for a different one"??? Her inventory is VERY small and she is always there, usually the only one working. Be VERY careful that she is honest and doesn't add a few extra dollars per item here and there, as that happened at least three times in three days. By the end I took pictures before checking out, when I realized what was going on. Prices are already overpriced, often for the same items you can purchase much cheaper a block down the road at the local grocery store. Two stars for the aesthetics and organization for the place.

We just stopped at Escalante Mercantile on our way through town and I’m so glad we did. The store is adorable, and you can tell so much thought has gone into curating and decorating. The breakfast sandwiches we ordered were delicious and the raspberry turnover we got for the road was so fresh and perfectly baked. Tommy the dog even came out to say bye. Definitely worth dropping by if you’re in the area!

The store was adorable but the owner was very rude to her employee right in front of all the costumers, yelling at her about wasting product in their ($10.75) smoothies because of incorrect ounce measurements. I always enjoy supporting local businesses, but not ones owned by rude, obtuse, selfish, people who overcharge for terrible products. Then when explaining to the employee how to correctly make the next smoothie she was very passive aggressive and treated the employee as a child. Would not recommend the smoothies, you could not mix and match and they were handed to us falling over, mine fell out on the counter and they still proceeded to serve it to me. Very disappointed with the management and lack of flavor for the $11 smoothies.

Store is convenient and aesthetic is nice. They have a good selection of items however most of them are a bit over priced....its the only store like this around so you take what you can get. They offer baked goods and we selected an oatmeal cookie but didn't realize how overcooked and hard as a rock it was til we got in the car and on the road. The employee or maybe owner was a bit brash and not warm and welcoming to the town at all...in a town that survives from tourist and travelers I would expect that to be different.

Very unique little store in a very small town. Had a chai and scone which were very good. Had dried mango and ginger which was a great treat. Pricey as these are not items found everywhere.

Stopped in for a coffee and snack and was blown away with all the amazing things this little shop offered. Fresh produce, eggs, cheese, etc. TONS of great snacks and drinks and a delicios coffee and smoothie bar. Already missing this cute place now that I am back home in CA. If in Escalante definitely stop in.

Very hipster and overpriced. Seems out of place in such a rural area. What they call a breakfast "burrito", wrapped in paper and tied with fancy twine, is really a taco and not worth $10. However, the El Paso Cornbread Muffin is pretty good.

What a gem of a place!!Part market, part cafe, Escalate Mercantile carries a variety of local products. You can also grab picnic supplies, baked goods, or a beverage (smoothie, coffee, tea, etc).We ordered an iced Americano and enjoyed the outdoor seating. The proprietress was incredibly friendly. There was even a sweet pup snoozing in the store. We will definitely be back when we are in the area!!

Wow ! What a delicious and extremely friendly stop. We had excellent salads, bagels, pastries and ice coffees. The store is full of good products and there is a nice patio to enjoy the food and drinks. Highly recommended by gourmet Belgians.

Stopped in this a.m. (Aug.8} for breakfast and had a great breakfast sandwich, cherry turnover, hot cup of coffee. Stopped again in the afternoon (after a long trip to Hells backbone bridge) got a trail sandwich, pasta salad, ice cold drink, and some post cards to send to my grandkids. The owner is very nice and helpful with suggestions on what you might like to eat. Store has a lot of unique foods & items. Well worth the stop. They also offer an outdoor dining area. By the way I'm from Indiana and what a treat.

What a terrific find on our way through Escalante. Great food and friendly service. The owner truly exemplifies the American entrepreneur spirit. If you are a local or just traveling through, please make a stop here!!

Breakfast warmed up. When we said it was cold they rudely tossed it into the microwave again. The older woman was incredibly rude, I felt awkward going and telling them they got my order wrong after that whole ordeal. Tells you to read signs when you ask questions rudely. Not a fan. They get a 2 stars cause they have sick groceries.
