The facility has info specific to the amount of time you have or your travel style. You can ask the front desk for print outs of certain things like slot canyon hikes. They have tons of books and maps that you can take photos of or purchase. There's an exhibit of insects, rocks, and other interesting things you can find in the area. The parking lot also has a water fill up for RVs. WiFi was fast too.

Drove an hour to be here just to find it closed due to staffing. A visitor centre of this size without staff is just bad management

Interesting stop while traveling the Highway 12 Scenic Byway on our Grand Circle tour of National and State Parks. We had some really beautiful views as we traversed our way across Utah's magnificent parks. The staff in this Visitor Center were really nice and helpful and made our trip more enjoyable. Take the time to stop, talk and learn it is interesting.

Tons of info and the rangers are always friendly. Pick up some wag bags if you’re going canyon camping.

I saw my Ranger who gave me a cave tour from a couple of years ago at Great Basin National Park. Familiar and friendly face!

Closed because of Covid 19. They still have a lot of information in their Courtyard with flyers and maps. No one to talk to about great place to still stop for information.

I've been to this visitor center numerous times...I'm impressed by the PATIENCE and CUSTOMER SERVICE the rangers here exhibit, having to deal with outdoor inexperienced tourists daily. People don't realize these same rangers also pick up all the garbage, clean the graffiti, scrub the dirty vault toilets (do people not know how to aim it in the toilet???), remediate trails and campsites, and the list goes on.... basically they have to clean and fix everything that many tourists do to pollute, vandalize, alter, and destroy the monument everyday. AND then they put on a smile, answer questions, give directions, educate about the area, provide informative talks and junior ranger programs for kids - they do it all here!THANK YOU to all the rangers at the Escalante monument!

A good place to fill up on water, use the bathroom, and get helpful information about the area.

The staff here are great. I asked about the availability of springs in Coyote Gulch. One of the rangers then took the time to hand-mark the location of reliable springs on a topo map. I bought that map. This was extremely useful.

A great place to get information on all the local sites which can be hard to find due to the 'disperse' nature of this type of recreation.

Stopped here before backpacking in Coyote Gulch to get our permit and we were so impressed! The staff here helped us out soooo much and gave us great advice and directions. If it weren't for the staff, we would've taken a road that was way too washed out for my car to access. The facility is also very nice.

Thanks to this visitor center we had a near death experience. This visitor center was where we came to get a map and information about spooky and peekaboo gulch. The map they gave us did not include dry fork. WHAT KIND OF MAP EXCLUDES PLACES? We thought we were in one of the canyons on the map. This caused us to get very lost. While we were there the lady was complaining about people going places off the trail and leaving footprints where they shouldn't. Perhaps that's because there is NO trail or signs . We were just walking above the canyon looking for a way down which was very dangerous. We found footprints to follow which were cow foot prints. They gave us directions such as a tree and rocks to find when we got out of the canyon to loop into another canyon. There were trees and rocks absolutely everywhere. We were so lost that we were there until dark. We could have died sleeping there at night.

All BLM visitors center are not created equal and Escalante is fortunate to have a very nice facility, but much more important, they have a fabulous staff who go out of their way to provide information, maps, directions and excitement about the wonderful places they have to visit. If you want to make the most of your time in the northern portion of the Escalante Grand Staircase, make this your first stop and they can help you make great choices. This is our nation’s government at its best.

Stop and talk to the ranger. This is an amazing spot to learn and find out about the amazing wonder of Escalante and non marked sites.

We are from our of state and really wanted some information. We had a map thrown at us by a very bored employee. Not a good look for your state.

Good source of information on the surrounding federal lands, and has a few exhibits. They do sell some souvenirs and has outdoor bathrooms. Also has a water hydrant to fill up water containers while camping.

October 2021: Good stop for important info. Sad that their exhibit was closed for COVID. Restrooms absolutely, undeniably filthy. Even COVID would hesitate visiting here to relieve itself.

Really nice building and staff is nice, but it's annoying how rangers ALWAYS try and convince you not to do hikes. I wish you guys would give the cons AND PROS of hikes not just always trying to scare people off.
