What an great experience it was at Dorothy OConnor's pet adoption center! I took my mom there to look for a companion and while she didn't find the one she was looking for then, I'm sure she will eventually. The staff here is so wonderful. You can tell they love the animals and the work they're doing. The lady who assisted us knows all of the dogs and cats and takes extra special care of them. The adoption fees are extremely reasonable and all of the dogs are microchipped, spayed/neutered and utd on all shots, etc. I fell in love with a couple of cuties but I'm just not in a position to adopt. I'd recommend this center for anyone considering adopting a cat or dog.

Absolutely amazing staff and workplace!! I had to make the heart wrenching decision to put my 17 year old childhood dog to sleep and the vet suggested to go to Dorothy O’ Connor pet adoption to have him cremated. They made the whole process as peaceful as they could. The sweet lady at the front desk helped me through it all, from picking out a scatter tube for my fur babies ashes to his paws being engraved, to being able to say my last goodbyes. They really show how much they care and the heart for the animals and people alike. Definitely recommend this place to adopt or have your fur baby in your heart forever.

Absolutely a great experience adopting my new best buddy Bruce from here. EDIT TO ADD: I can't say too much about the staff and the facility. There's a great chemistry there. They also offer a discount on fees for LEO, MIL, etc. The living facilities for the animals are clean, and they have nice recreation areas. If anyone has any doubt about adopting pets from this facility, don't.... My mom became an enthusiastic supporter of DOC after the adoption of our buddy Bruce.

Wonderful staff who genuinely care for all the animals there and are committed to helping them be adopted. Wonderful animals as well. I've been volunteering there for about 3 years and I can't help but fall in love with the animals over and over again. I found a wonderful black cat there a couple years ago who is now everyone's favorite member of the household and a major part of my life, all thanks to this place for taking him in and helping to socialize him.

Very unprofessional, they let my daughter play with the dog and she was into both my son and daughter. Then in the end someone whom I assumed was spying on us in the waiting room said no. Obviously they could care less about a child heart being broken. Guess race does play apart in pet adoption, aka in Victoria County.... They should be ashamed of themselves. But rest asure, God knows and sees everything done in evil intent.

I keep seeing people say that the dogs don’t get enough one on one time, but I don’t think they understand. I’m a volunteer at Dorothy H. O’Conner. DOCPAC can hold up to 300 dogs. And I know at one time they had 66 puppies just in quarantine!!! That’s crazy. And with their limited staff, I understand if the dogs don’t get a lot of one on one time. They are all sweet sweet dogs, and I know the staff strives to play with the dogs. And that’s also why they have volunteers. They help out a lot to if they follow the rules. Plus, my experience has been amazing to just go and volunteer. So I just have to say (and I know it’s just an opinion) stop bugging them about not having enough time for their dogs. Put yourself in their shoes. Thank you, and have a blessed day.-Ava

My fiancé and I adopted two puppies on Friday November 13th 2020. This was our first time adopting from Dorothy O’ Connor, and our first time adopting ever from a shelter. When we adopted both dogs we were super excited, the staff went over all of the necessary paperwork- so we thought. When we got the dogs home, one began showing signs of sickness like diarrhea and coughing. We assumed it was because of the new environment and we blew it off. As the days passed the dog progressively got worse, and so did his brother. We started reviewing the paperwork from Dorothy O’ Connor and as we started reading further into their health history, we noticed they both had a history of illnesses such as parvo and giardia. The dog was already sick when we brought him home, and we thought it was super unprofessional for Dorothy O’ Connor to let us adopt him while he was showing symptoms of illness. Had we known the dog was sick we definitely would have thought twice before adopting him. We wish Dorothy O’ Connor would have disclosed all of their health history to us before letting us adopt. It was hard bringing home two puppies, but we knew the work it was going to take. What we did not sign up for was taking care of two sick puppies, both dogs after seeing the vet needed tons of medications each. Dorothy O’ Connor did pay for the vet bills and all the medications. However, it was very overwhelming for my fiancé and me. Moreover, my fiancé has two family dogs and she assumed it was safe to take the new puppies to meet them for several play dates while we had them. Both of my fiancé’s dogs came down with the same illness the puppies had in the following days. We ended up surrendering the puppies back to the shelter, it became too much work caring for two sick puppies. We have never adopted before but we assumed we were paying for two healthy dogs, we each spent $250 for a total of $500 – not to be refunded. We have never returned dogs to a shelter, and this destroyed my fiancé and I because we got super attached to the puppies, but with all the medications and then with our family dogs getting sick it just became super frustrating. We are writing this review in hopes we can warn potential adopters who adopt from Dorothy O’ Connor to be sure to ask about your potential new pet’s health records and if they are currently showing any signs of illness. We don’t want anyone else going through what we went through, now we are terrified to adopt from the shelters as this whole experience has left us very unsettled.

Enjoying visiting this facility. They are professional and take care of the critters they have. Wish I could take home all of the critters even if I am allergic to cats. My family likes the environment and atmosphere.
