I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mark and his team running this animal shelter! From the minute I walked in the door Ashley welcomed me with such a great attitude! I was then introduced to Eric one of the officers there and together with one of the incredible volunteers we began my search for a best friend to bring home. The entire staff was so helpful and friendly and knew exactly which dog would be perfect for me. The dogs here are so well taken care of and receive such great attention and love! I was nervous about bringing my new best friend home, but Eric and the team took time to talk me through everything I would need and made sure I was set up for success! I love this place so much, my doggy and I love to go back and visit! I’m so grateful to the team for the incredible way they take care of the animals, and the way they took care of me!!!

Absolutely amazing place! We got our dog diva here in October of 2018. Between me and my husband we’ve adopted 7 dogs and diva was by far the sweetest and most well behaved when we brought her home. She quickly became part of the family and felt at home. We got her when my daughter was 4 and she has been a dream around her and all other children. She great with others dogs and very playful with other dogs and gentle around all people.

We just adopted this sweetheart. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made the process easy. I really like how they keep all the cats together because they are able to socialize. This allowed our new friend to get along with the 1 yeah old cat we had. They get along great! We are extremely happy with our little girl!!!

We scheduled an appointment to have a tour at the facility while dropped off some donations on Sunday. This facility is not big but they keep it very clean. Each dog seems to have good space to exercise and the officers are very friendly. Will definitely revisit again.

Great place to adopt! The staff is amazing and really care for the animals. We’ve been lucky enough to have adopted three wonderful cats from TCAS.

The Colony Animal Shelter is the greatest shelter in Dallas! They treat their animals very well and properly.I had just adopted a sweetheart of a cat! He is actually a Toothless look alike from How to Train Your Dragon!I renamed her to Karma, because it was a blessing that I had found this amazing place, and found my dream pet!

If I could rate this minus 100 I would. My wife and I both called earlier today about a stray cat getting in our yard and peeing on the patio. The girl that answered the phone was extremely rude and defensive. She said it’s too hot for “them” to trap a cat and I’d have to do it myself. I asked where they would take the cat as she said they’d pick it up and she hung up on me. My wife called back after multiple no answers trying to get the same information. The rude girl told her to get a trap and do it ourselves, and also said if the cat dies , we will face animal cruelty charges. So in short, these idiots working here want to set you up to kill a cat so they don’t have to. This is complete nonsense as I have two cats of my own and would NEVER do such a thing. Complete disgrace, avoid this place and this terrible person who works there. I will be sharing this on all social media so people can see the real side of these terrible people.

DO NOT adopt from this place. Me and my partner adopted a sweet 5 month old kitten named Rock from this facility. 1 & 1/2 weeks after adopting Rock, he became very ill. We took him to a vet and turns out, Rock has had anemia since he was born and was extremely malnourished. When we initially went and saw Rock at the shelter, he exhibited some signs of having a cold, but thought nothing of it since a lot of kitten's have colds at some point. 1 week after the $400 vet visit, Rock passed away because it was too late. This facility obviously does not check their animals before putting them up for adoption, causing whoever adopts the animals a great deal of heart ache. I will never adopt from this facility again and I hope they do better in the future. Also to mention, they had the 5 month old kitten strictly on wet food and told us to keep him on it, which caused him being malnourished. Cats should be on dry food by the time they are 5 months, which I now know. TAKE CARE OF YOUR ANIMALS and stop causing people pain when their beloved pets die.

Went to the animal shelter with my family to see their selection. Eric, one if their employees, spent such quality time with us introducing a dog to us. He was exceptional. You can tell he enjoys his job and loves animals. The shelter is so lucky to have Eric on their staff!

I’m so glad this was my first stop when looking for our newest family member! They have the sweetest dogs waiting to find their home. We adopted Goose and I am just in awe that she was the problem child of the bunch. She has been so perfectly behaved. They were very honest with me about her problems with barking and not getting along with other dogs, but she has not barked inside once & we have no other animals. My daughter and I have completely fallen in love with her. She was fairly hyper when we first met, but since bringing her home, she has been so chill. They sent us with supplies/toys that way outweighed the already low adoption fee. Go check them out, they’re great people and they have amazing animals waiting to be adopted!

We had such a positive experience at TCAS today and adopting our cat was such a seamless process! The staff know the animals very well and have taken time to get to know their personalities, temperament, and what each animal needs in a home. The bios written for each animal on the website and in the shelter were so thorough and fun to read! I would highly recommend adopting an animal from TCAS!

I adopted a hamster. They made it clear that they don't often get in animals like hamsters and guinea pigs. The employees were ecstatic that I was there to adopt the hamster. It was a strange experience, because I've never had such a FAST adoption, let alone one where nothing was asked of me. I was literally in/out in 5 or 10 minutes. Probably on the lower side of that. I handed over my ID and I think my phone #. Didn't fill out anything. They brought me the ham, asked me what I wanted to take home since he came with a lot of stuff, and sent me on my way. Quite bizarre compared to the 2 other shelters I've adopted exotics from. No one was mean or rude and they were all quite nice and easy to talk with.I do ask that the shelter learn a little more about small pets. I am not sure if anyone knew that the cage he was surrendered in was not acceptable for any living animal. His water bottle was leaking and the cage smelled like ammonia/urine. I understand the area had ice/snow, so maybe that has to do with it, and if so, ignore what I said about the cage condition.

I feel that I owe everyone thinking of adoption from this shelter my story so you can make an informed decision. Twice I have ignored the facts and brushed my experiences with this shelter aside thinking the problems we had with our animals after adoption were regular shelter problems. I don't believe that anymore. We first adopted a cat from The Colony Animal Shelter in December 2017. They absolutely knew which cat we should get, and for that I am so grateful. So grateful that I let it blind me. Our cat came home and immediately fell ill. He was sneezing and couldn't breath. He had a common respiratory infection cats can get from shelters. $100 later, he was all fixed up, so I thought nothing of it.In March 2019 we adopted a dog from The Colony Animal Shelter. He, too, was ill. He had some sort of gastrointestinal issue, which cost $250 to treat mere days after leaving the shelter. Great dog, so I again shrugged it off.The straw that broke the camel's back was this past weekend when we adopted a kitten, who we later discovered was crawling in fleas. My other cat and my dog have now been exposed to fleas. I have fleas in my house. One would think the very first thing they would do is treat the animals for fleas when they come in. They don't. There's nothing on his paperwork saying he was treated. Nothing.Nothing is also what I got in return when I tried contacting the shelter. No response. It cost a whopping $450 to treat all of my animals and my house today, so I need you all to know that the adoption fee may be low, but the cost of doing business with this shelter can be much higher and absolutely was much higher for me after three adoptions from them and three subsequent illnesses. The only reason I've given two stars is because of the animals. My three are wonderful, and for that reason I have to give the shelter some credit for helping me find them, but in closing i would add that even the veterinarian today was astonished that the cat was never even inspected, let alone treated, for fleas. He was so crawling in fleas that I don't doubt every cat in there has them. I'd think twice before adopting from here.

We adopted a dog here in 2017 and we were not sure what to expect since the building was small but once inside the staff was a pleasure and the dogs were amazing. They took there time answering all of our questions and we were so excited to finally find our new family member. We had visited several shelters across DFW and found none of them had the heart that The Colony Animal Shelter had. They truly care for the animals and the city should consider investing more into their animal services group since it is the true gem of there city.

My dog had a growth on his foot that was removed before I adopted. I was told by the people at the shelter that if he had this come up again, hey would take care of costs. I even called and double checked and was told once more that everything would be taken care of. 1 doctor visit later I’m out $200 because they will only pay for 1 specific thing. I’m not mad about them not covering the cost of everything. I’m upset that I was mislead into thinking everything would be taken care of. I really did not have the money for this right now but went ahead and took my dog in because I was reassured it wouldn’t cost me anything. Thanks for the over draft!!

The Colony Animal Services is the standard bearer when it comes to animal shelters. The pet selection and adoption process, and then the support they gave me even several weeks after adoption have been spectacular. Being brand new to pet adoption, I didn't even know what questions to ask. TCAS (Shannon and Mark in particular) understood my situation and my needs and made a SPOT ON recommendation for a dog for adoption and it fit my family perfectly. I couldn't be happier. You can tell that these guys really care about the animals in their care, it's not just a job for them. If you are considering pet adoption, I would say definitely start with TCAS and go from there.

So I won’t give this place a one star, because they led me to my precious baby. However, I’m disgusted with them. I called the day before I adopted my kitten, and they told me that they would call me if she was adopted before I was able to come in for my appointment with her. Which is fine, most shelters are first come first serve. After making my appointment and visiting with the kitten, I asked if I could see a dog that was also available, and the girl at the front told me that I couldn’t because someone had an appointment to look at the dog....What...?So they’d told me that it was a possibility for the kitten to get adopted before I could see her (and i had an appointment), but they were basically holding the dog for someone else... I don’t feel like that’s right. Especially since the girl the day before had told me there was no guarantees my kitten would still be there...Also, the outside of the shelter has overgrown plants and is not appealing to look at. I literally thought I was at the wrong place. They could also improve the inside of the building as well, it’s really run down and old. I’ve never been to a shelter that charges so much to adopt an animal... But I guess it’s different everywhere you go.

This staff goes above and beyond in trying to do what is write for the pets they care of. Our family found a chihuahua mix that we immediately fell in love with. Unfortunately, we were leaving town and could not take him home until the following week. The staff was BEYOND helpful in helping find a foster for the weekend. Now our little family is complete! Thank you The Colony Animal Shelter!

There are not enough stars to give this shelter and employees. They go above and beyond to help. Mark is amazing and will go out of his way for others. My puppies had gotten out during the day while I was at work, by the time my daughter notified me the shelter had closed. After searching the neighborhood for 3 hours I didn't realize they could be at the pound, I called and had to leave a message, I hung up the phone and began to worry like a mother that had lost her child. The after hours emergency contact phone number provided was The Colony Police Department which I did not want to call, I assumed they had better things to do than help find missing dogs so I began to think outside the box and emailed every employee on the website hoping for the best hoping someone would check their email that evening, sure enough 3 employees replied within an hour or less, they informed me that they did have my boys and they were being well taken care of and that I could pick them up first thing in the morning, I was relieved however 2 hours later Mark called and said that he would be willing to meet me at the shelter that evening. Who does that? So all you pet owners and animal lovers please support and donate to The Colony Animal.

Small shelter, staffed with the nicest people. Clean and happy animals. Quick in and out during adoption. ***Please note: they accept donations of pet supplies, newspaper, toys and food in the original packaging. There's a cart by the front door to drop it on.

A Big "Thank You" to The Colony Animal ServicesThey kindly sent an officer to my home today to pick up a rabbit that my dogs, sadly, killed last night in the back yard when let out for a bathroom break. I normally ring bells to warn any rabbits before letting out, but forgot. I tried to save him, but he died shortly after. I placed him in a box with a towel and some flowers and wrapped the box in trash bags. This morning I called The Colony Animal Services and they immediately came out and picked him up at no charge. The Colony Animal Services are the best!

In my opinion, if you are a resident of The Colony and you are getting a dog it's your civic duty to stop and look at the animal shelter before you go anywhere else. I assume they have cats too, but whatever. People turn in animals all the time for all different reasons and then there's strays and stuff on top of that. They had the perfect dog for us spayed, chipped and up to date on all her shots and she immediately became a member of our family.
