Very unfortunate that they only adopt out to people who have fenced yards. I am an animal care professional and there is a fenced dog area at my apartment building but I could not be considered to adopt a sweet, small dog because of no fenced area of my own. Disheartening since I had my eyes out for once special little dog I saw on Petfinder. Hope he finds a good home and doesn't have to wait a long time for a yard... I guess it's a thing in this area but I'm from Ohio and I find it quite unfortunate that this keeps dogs from going to loving homes down here.

Was never nice to me when I wanted to adopt from them they switched dogs on me and said then no dogs was a matched to me this had been awhile since I tried to adopt from them a few years ago they let me know I was not good enough to adopt from them they may love animals but they don't like the people who tried to adopt animals from them they are snoby .

Bad experience! They do not want to let their cats go to good homes unless you take 2 of them and very indecisive. I would NEVER recommend to anyone.***Update as of 9/15/2022*** The same Cats are still at PETSMART on Richmond Road. They still have not been adopted out. I believe they just keep them so they keep getting funding. They do not care about the cats!!! Sky, Rainbow, Oreo and Tango just too name a few are now about 3 months old! These babies need loving homes and not to spend their life in a small cubby daily!

They never answer the phone and they don’t return voicemails. I have a pregnant dog that was dumped off at our house and we called so many shelters in town and nobody answered or cared to help. I called this place at least six times and left one very thorough voicemail with my information so they would return a call. The dog gave birth today and I cannot take care of the puppies and this could have all been prevented had someone answered the phone or reached back out

This is an amazing animal shelter, they go above and beyond to help these dogs and cats. Even during a one in a lifetime winter storm the volunteers stepped and took the animals home with them so they would be safe and sound. The dog I am in the process of adopting was in horrible shape until the TAL rescued him and showed him the love he had been missing and gave him the medical attention he needed, he is now nearly fully recovered and is such a happy pup because of these amazing people at this shelter. I highly recommend this shelter, they are true angels for these dogs and cats ❤️

I used to volunteer here with my mom, it’s a wonderful place. Last Saturday I adopted my first TAL doggie! I adopted Jack, now known as biscuit. It was a wonderful experience. I will definitely be coming back to adopt more fluffy babies 💜🐶

Never bothered calling back, even when trying to adopt multiple cats. They essentially have no office hours and no one will answer the phone, you have to leave a message. I'm not sure how they expect to adopt out animals when they limit themselves to a few days a month.

unprofessional handling of the adoption process. told we were an approved applicant and set up a time to meet a dog, then were told the day before the meeting that actually we wouldn’t be meeting or adopting this dog, they had a better applicant, and to try another shelter. allowed us no opportunity to make a case for ourselves or to talk about their decision - it was just no.we understand if we weren’t a good fit, but we were led to believe we were for several days then let down the day before we were set to potentially adopt this dog. we were excited to make this pup a member of our family but now will not return to this shelter for fear of getting our hopes up again.

During the first year of Covid 19, we had to put down my 15 year old rat terrier named Tucker in September of health problems, and then my Mom died the next month in the hospital. Texarkana Animal League gave me hope the next year in Spring 2021 when I found another rat terrier named Lidiya that also had chihuahua in her. She was the perfect match for me because she reminded me a lot about my previous rat terrier. If you are looking for your next fur baby during the pandemic and suffered the loss of your previous pet, Texarkana Animal League is the place of hope to get you back on your feet and connect with dogs and cats again. My Mother was a psychologist, and she studied pet therapy in her Masters Program in college in the early 90’s, and told me and other clients that the best way to keep your mind off of negative things, is to love on a dog and cat to take that negativity away. I have been volunteering at TAL since I adopted Lidiya last Easter Eve 2021 because I wanted to give back to my community just like my Mom to keep my mind happy and healthy.

I brought 14 animals here that I found dumped. They had NO room. However, the volunteer have me a long list of foster homes and other contacts, going out of her way to help. This organization isn't just a business. They genuinely love animals and help however they are able.

I adopted a dog for just under 2 months from TAL but had to return her, as gut-wrenching as it was, because she NEEDED SOMEONE HOME WITH HER all day long. I researched the breed well before I adopted her, knew she might very well have issues since she was originally rescued from a hoarding situation, but she was unable to acclimate to being home while my husband and I were away working. She had severe separation anxiety that medication, music, leaving clothes with our scent down for her did not manage. We did what was best for her and now she’s in the perfect home with a retired person who is home 24/7. The team at TAL LOVES each and EVERY animal that they rescue and care for and they strive to find THE PERFECT FIT for each animal. If they feel that a dog or cat that they know needs a certain type of home with a certain type of owner can better suit a dog or cat that they put love, care, money and attention into... that should be respected as they know what’s best. When I returned my dog, there were stipulations that she HAD to go to a home where the owner was home all of the time. That person also had to have a fenced yard. No ifs, ands or buts. If some people get their feelings hurt because they get denied an animal who would do better in a different home, that should be respected. TAL isn’t “being mean” or “unreasonable.” They TRULY want what’s best for each animal in their care. They love them like their own and even after they’ve gone off to their forever homes. Just wanted to make this clear to whoever looks into adopting from TAL. ❤️ I thank them for all of their love and support during through a very difficult decision I had to make... for the love of a dog. My former girl Zoey is now living her best life with the perfect mom FOR HER. As it should be. Facebook reviews will back up positive experiences of adoption that others have had. ❤️

Would you buy a vehicle from someone who told you what you can and can not do with it? If you answer yes to this, Texarkana Animal League is definitely the place to get an animal. We got refused a cat because we have dogs and a dog door, and also a cat......and their cats aren't allowed outside!

I don't know this place, but they are right, kittens are as delicate as new born babies,I don't think you would like to see your child carrying the kitten around after it squeezed the life out of it, not knowing / he or she was stronger than the little kitten animals no matter how small know when they are being hurt as an ex social worker, you would be surprised at the parents that will give their children pets, just to keep them occupied. Here choke the kittens have fun..You wouldn't give your children a Pit bull to play wit would you.I give them 4 stars for using their common sense in this delicate situation.Have a blessed day

Texarkana animal league is a great job here in Texarkana and surrounding area. They survive by donations only and their donations help find homes and medical care for stray and mistreated animals they always appreciate any and all volunteers to help care 4 these cats and dogs.

They told me I couldn’t adopt a kitten for my kids because of my kids ages poses a risk to the safety of a pet. One & three. Never heard this before and will never recommend them to anyone.

Racist establishment, rude ladies, and also no respect for people looking to bring a animal home. Didn't even want to tell us process or anything to adopt a animal.
