This is a great place to go and support the animal shelter on the island, they have a thrift shop which resells items that are donated which helps to support the shelter. They also take donations, and they have animals up for adoption there.

I fostered a Great Dane lab for 5 days and then adopted her she had been at the shelter for over 200 days she is the smartest lovingest social with people dogs she even met horses and loved them in the short week that I've owned her she has learned so much and has bonded and trusted me so quickly I have nothing but respect for the rescue center for the way they take care of their dogs and how well they fit the dogs to the potential owners they also work so hard with you to make sure that you have everything you need to make the transition easy I couldn't say enough good about them plus they are a no kill shelter amazing they run a thrift shop taking donations and sell to finance themselves so if anybody loves animals please donate

They took my service dog and refused to give her back. They told me she was mistreated, but refused to see the fact that Coyotes here on the island attacked her. They said I was unfit then said they'd charge me over 1,000 dlls to give her back. I've been her mamma for over 5 years and they decided to just keep her. What they should do is get rid of coyote on the island instead. I had her fixed and on vitamins.. they post that she's good with other animals, that's way far from the truth. My baby girl attacked any other animals around me. She was spoiled and was the only one. Friends of animals advertise about animals as if they know them better than their owners and I'm telling you, my girl IS NOT GOOD WITH ANY OTHER ANIMAL.. JUST BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T BARK DON'T MEAN SHE WONT KILL. BE CAREFUL WITH THEIR FULL DESCRIPTION OF THEIR JAIL MATES. I KNOW MY GIRL WAS NOTTT GOOD WITH OTHERS. THEY ADVERTISE THAT SHES GOOD BECAUSE SHES LAID BACK AND CHILL BUT BEWARE.. SHE BITES AND EATS UP HER PREY. IVE HAD TO RELEASE PUPPIES, POSSUMS AND CATS OUT OF HER JAWS. She is NOT GOOD WITH OTHER PETSShe has a family who misses her and loves her to pieces.

My daughter and I were on vacation and just stopped in by chance. My daughter fell in love with one of the dogs. The people were so friendly and they did more than expected to make this happen. It may have taken a little longer then we hoped but they found him transport to us in MN and at no cost!! They truly care about the pets in their care!! If you are looking to adopt then this is the place. Tanner is so well behaved and you can tell they put alot of time and effort into his care. PS check out Jolene it's her turn to find her furever home ♥️♥️

You can’t seriously call yourself a no kill shelter if you’re going to ship off animals to other kill shelters. If someone bring a you an animal because they don’t want it to die, why would send it to another shelter knowing they will euthanize it? Despicable behavior. Violent stupidity. Have integrity.

This lovely organization made it possible for a senior Lab to relocate to a loving home in Massachusetts.“Betty” just could not be left here after being seen by a family vacationing on the Island. Friends of Animals sought out animal transport to get Betty to her new home on the East Coast.No Stress Pet Express was contacted and Betty was home in 2 days!

The lady working at the counter is a rare jewel. I found a thunder shirt for my son's big scardey puppy who is afraid of bad weather. Perfect, just what I needed. The store was full of hidden treasures. All items are donated and that adds familiarity.

My family and I stopped into friends of animal rescue three times during our visit to S. Padrea. During the first visit, we traded with a lady who was nice, unlike the next two visits.We were made to deal with a rude, "just because I can and not because I'm having a bad day," lady.We would have liked to help the rescued animals, but we left because this lady made us feel more than UNCOMFORTABLE.

It is an amazing place. People are very easygoing and fully committed with what they do! You can access with your dog and on top of that, you can find many stuff at very accessible prices. Highly recommended! Congratulations to those who work there!

such a cute place!! i got this amazing south padre sweatshirt that was only SIX bucks AND contributed to helping the animals compared to a fricken $20 one at one of the millions of beach stores on this island. so hey, if you want to have a souvenir that isn’t expensive whatsoever and benefit sweet pups and kitties then come to the friends of animal rescue thrift shop! staff were sweet and environment was lovely, besides the dog barking in the background.

Just visited today. I would have given them a 5 if it wasn't for the horrible smell. ~mixture of bleach & urine-yum!You can tell these people are very passionate about what they do. Every is donated, and their prices reflect it. For example, beach dresses are $3.00. Unlike goodwill, they understand the value of each item, and price accordingly.They are try to raise money for a new facility. Please help support that venture.

While on vacation I was looking for hidden island treasures so I came here to look around. This is a really cool idea to help support a good cause. However they do have dogs in the store in the back I guess that they are fostering/adopting out. The barking from all the dogs in the back made for a chaotic shopping trip however they had A LOT of kids sand toys!

Shelter is amazing! Many donation events take place with Sherry Pinard who runs most of the shelter and resale shop in the front. Have great selection of name brand used clothing for dirt cheap prices. These purchases made are then donated as well. Awesome place and cant wait for the upgrade!

Went in to shop used goods and to play with and pet puppies and kitties. Plenty of items to look through, the staff is helpful and friendly. Best of all, if you need a puppy or kitty fix, this is the place to go. They do a lot of good work for animals here and you can support their efforts by purchasing resale items or by donating used goods or money.

I wonder how much of the proceeds are going to the animals when the HORRIBLE STENCH from the animal area is so bad! If you care for animals, how can it smell that horrible in this place. Clothes there for sale must reek! I had to leave soon after entering and I had a thick 95 mask on. Wont be back.Lady at front desk not real friendly either.

Great cause, fabulous inventory and STELLAR STAFF!A must do for tourists and locals alike... All proceeds are gifted to the program for rescued animals located on site.Hard to walk out of this establishment without some kind of treasure...
