I first visited the Barnyard Sanctuary ten years and I've met so many delightful animals and devoted volunteers. The Barnyard takes in animals that other rescues wouldn't even consider. All of the animals have their medical needs met immediately. Mary has a knack for matching the pets with just the right family and a real gift for helping the animals to feel safe, no matter what their prior life has been. The Barnyard not only rescues dogs and cats, but also goats, donkeys, chickens, horses, rabbits, sheep, ducks, emus, and even a bison. When you come out to visit or to adopt, you won't see shiny stainless steel cages, because..... well, because it's a barnyard, after all.

Awesome place! I have adopted 5 donkeys and 15 chickens from the Barnyard Sanctuary. Mary is awesome to work with! As a new donkey mom, she has been an valuable source of information to me on donkey and chicken care. I can call her anytime I have a question or problem. She even came out to my farm to give the donkeys needed medication. This is my charity of choice!

Me and my husband found 2 sweet little guinea pigs in a box at a Walmart in Corpus. We knew we couldn’t leave them there so we took them but in no way could we have kept them for a lot of reasons. We were super worried about finding a place for them especially because we were going out of town the next day. I found barnyard sanctuary after a little research and called late in the evening and the woman we spoke with was so friendly and sweet. She told us she’d take them and to just call her when we’re on our way the next day. It was a weight lifted off our shoulders to know the guinea pigs were safe and with such a caring community. I instantly felt I could trust Barnyard Sanctuary and the amazing people who work there and will highly recommend them to anyone and everyone in need of an animal shelter for any reason!! After we dropped them off she even told us to come back and she’d show us around sometime! :)

What a sweet experience working with Mary at Barnyard Sanctuary! We were really in a major bind with our 6 peafowl and 3 turkeys. We had to find them new homes and the Barnyard Sanctuary rescued us 😉. With their vast knowledge about caring for and capturing our birds, they are now in a safe and loving environment until...Thanks again!

I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!!!This is my FAVORITE place to adopt animals from!! We have gotten multiple baby goats from Barnyard and they were AWESOME to work with!! Mary the lady that runs the Sanctuary is so wonderful to work with and very knowledgeable about her animals. Mary is my go to when I have questions about my goats!! We support Barnyard Sanctuary whenever we have the opportunity too. Our baby goats are amazing and I would not go anywhere else to get animals!!! Thank you Barnyard and Mary for helping animals and for helping me adopt my little baby goats!! Love you all!!

We Love the Barnyard! We have adopted our beloved donkeys and goose from the Barnyard. Our family has also volunteered many times with them. We have always had a great experience. I would highly recommend the Barnyard to adopt your next furry family member from or your next volunteer project.

Found a baby rabbit in neighborhood. Had no one to give her to that we knew would take good care of her. We named her Chalupa and began calling around. The Barnyard Sanctuary was 45 minutes away but so worth the time. The animals looked well fed and cared for. We saw goats, cattle, and horses. We gave 5he owner a donation and some rabbit food. She seemed very kind and thanked us for saving the bunny. It takes heart to run a place like this. Please consider them the next time you want to donate to a worthy cause. #savetheanimals #barnyardsanctuary

We have donated hay and helped out where we could. My girls love going and seeing the animals they know and finding new ones they don't. Barnyard is tireless in it's efforts to transition animals from not so great situations to new homes where they'll be happy and properly cared for.

We've been volunteering at Barnyard for months after adopting our family dog from Mary a year ago. This is our charity of choice in the area because it truly is about the animals. Any negative reviews are from people who haven't truly been here or are salty because their home wasn't adoption approved. Animals aren't handed out because they aren't property. Please consider adopting or volunteering to see for yourself...

I've fostered pups for Barnyard Sanctuary in Sandia, TX, for five years, and I've never known a more caring person than Mary. Primarily a farm animal rescue, Barnyard Sanctuary took in over 70 dogs from a hoarder when asked by the police for her help. From zero to 70 dogs in one day! She found homes for almost all of them, and those that she could not find homes for are safe with her at the sanctuary. She fully vets each and every animal she accepts. She works with each dog to socialize it with the other dogs running loose at the sanctuary, as well as with the cats, and various barnyard animals. If a rescue is not ready for adoption, she keeps it, and works with it until it is. I have trusted my own dogs with her, and they absolutely adore her!If you want to see what that Mary and Barnyard Sanctuary do, as well as some of the animals she has rescued, visit her Face Book page: Barnyard Sanctuary in Sandia, TX.

We just visited this sanctuary and are very impressed. We had a bad experience at another shelter and wanted our son to see the good ones. We had seen them on social media and wanted to check it out ourselves. It really is all about the animals there. The animals are obviously loved and cared for and the new place will be amazing when it is finished. It is no wonder that both local and even National donors love to give here. Go volunteer, feed animals, build a fence, plant a tree, you will be glad you took the time to see it for yourself.

We've adopted two dogs, chickens, a rabbit and cats from Barnyard and now my wife and children volunteer there regularly as a result of the experiences. My children also chose Barnyard Sanctuary as their Christmas wish recipient and were able to raise $1,000 for them. That speaks for itself - that two 8 yr olds thought that much of the sanctuary to choose them. Children are innately honest. Thanks Barnyard!

We love going to visit Barnyard Sanctuary. The animals are all so sweet and gentle. Mary has the biggest heart and works so hard to take care of so many unfortunate animals find the right homes after regaining their health and helps any willing hands learn to do the same.

We love barnyard sanctuary and Mary. Half the animals we have adopted came from there. It’s wonderful to have someone who cares for all the animals no one wants. Mary is truly passionate about every animal she takes in.

The Barnyard Sanctuary is a safe place for lost and abandoned farm animals. When they are brought in they are immediately seen but a vet and we'll taken care of until adopted.

Really awesome place that loves all animals. They took our two roosters after the city found out we had them. My kids were very upset to have to let them go but we know they are in good hands, will be well cared for, and will enjoy their new home. Thank you for all you do!!

Absolutely love Mary! She took the time to explain to me how to not only care for my animals, but to make it easier to do. I have a large group of animals, and admire what she does everyday.

We picked up a few chickens this past week. Mary was so nice and let us pick out which ones we wanted. Then she showed us around the property and we met all the other animals.

The woman who runs this place (Mary) needs to take a moment to rethink the way she treats the people who come to her for help. It's seems as though she may have lost her perspective on what it means to be empathetic, and that's very unfortunate for someone who claims to be in the 'Rescue' world. I would personally hate it if I was in a situation where my pet somehow ended up in her charge because based upon the manner in which recent situations were handled, I'm pretty sure I'd never see my pet again.. bottom line.. BEWARE!!

This lady will not give pets back to their owners after hurricane harvey, and deletes any negative comments about the place. Try commenting anything negative on her facebook page about her not giving the animals back, falsely claiming to release a captive squirrel of someone elses (after stealing photos from another page), etc. Several of us have seen these comments and watched them be deleted promptly. She's sweet when adopting out, and a nightmare when she has to be held responsible.Rescue these pets and reunite them from hurricane harvey guys! Do your research before donating.

I love that the animals are so well taken care of. Anyone who thinks otherwise must have been rejected from adopting a animal from Barnyard bc they are extremely cautious about the animals finding great homes.....lovely place!!! I volunteer every available minute I have to barnyard!

We have adopted fowl from the sanctuary. They all seemed to be well taken care of. There is always a need for sanctuaries like this one to take care of all the animals that need homes.
