This store is in a sad decline. New paint is nice, but fish with ick, tumors, dead friends, and filthy tanks is horrible to see. We left before even finishing a row.Update:I have been back once since my original review, and it's gotten worse. Dead fish actually on the floor, dead fish in almost all tropical tanks. I saw ick or fungus issues in most tanks and aquarium substrate covered in fish poop. I will never support a store that obviously doesn't care about the animals in their care. Please see owners respond from my original post here just so you get an idea of the type of "owner" they are and how little they care...but hey you can't please everyone right...

I have been coming here for over 10 years. Since it was bought by a new owner, the store has gotten prettier but the service and the fish health has gone way down. I have come in twice since it switched owners and the employees are regularly high and just sit in the corner. They don't seem to know much about fish and don't seem at all interested in helping the customers. Both times when I checked out they tossed my fish into the bag. The freshwater section is pretty dismal. There are dead fish everywhere. Several tanks had nothing but dead fish. The employees were more interested in some meat they were grilling outside under the awning then tending to the tanks. I used to come here for hardy fish and good service, even if the surroundings were humble. Now it's not worth the trip.

This place has the greatest variety! I just came by to take a look and now I keep buying more fish tanks and so many more fish than I thought 😆 kute little beautiful fish and big crayfish. The environment is nice with workers always ready to help.

I love this place, we started coming here a few months back. My cats (and kids) love the tank new setup..We purchased flag fishes, neon tetras, frogs, rainbow sharks, mini catfish, and my newest babies figure 8 puffers.They are honest and the prices are not that steep.I have been to 2 other locations in SA both were rude and didn't even acknowledge us being there. But this location took the time to chat, give us advice and feedback. Upal is a huge help and knowable. Someday I will owe a salt water tank, until then I will enjoy my beauties.

We were beginners just six weeks ago in the saltwater hobby. They were more than patient to help us. We bought a Bio Cube 32 that was actually a little cheaper than than Amazon! They delivered it and set it up the same day! Anyone who has experience with saltwater tanks knows that the initial setup is so important. The owner didn't cut any corners.They continue to help us through the new tank learning curve and appreciate all of the assistance.Beware: saltwater tanks are very addictive but when done right they are very satisfying!!!Thanks for your help and see you soon!

This store has FLOURISHED since the new management took over.Their tanks can show right off the bat the workers here have a deep passion for the fish keeping hobby. They have such a wide selection of animals I never thought I would get a chance to own, with reasonable prices. Recently purchased a garden eel and she is thriving in my tank. The owner and workers are highly knowledgeable when it comes to asking for tips and advice. They are kind and create a welcoming environment. I highly recommend checking out this store before any others.

I always buy my fish from here. I am impressed with the staff’s knowledge and recommendations. They have helped me select Aquariums and fish for my grandchildren. I’m excited and love to take the grandkids there and I would highly recommend this to anybody looking for aquariums or tropical fish. The store definitely number one in San Antonio.

I have a 75 gallon tank with only 4 fish and I was asking about appropriate tank mates. A green terror was recommended. It was a beautiful fish and I was interested, there was no price label on the tank and when I asked for a price the man helping me he yelled across the store and the other guy (manager/owner) yelled back $50. I thought that was high but I trusted that it was a normal retail price. I got home with the green terror and he started “terrorizing” my geophagus after a few weeks. I offered to rehome him in a Facebook group, trying to get what I paid. Everyone said that was a crazy price. I ended up giving the fish away.I felt like they took advantage of my inexperience and overcharged me. The manager/owner had overheard me talking about what I wanted and asking for help.The pricing was also not labeled on the spider wood. Felt like they were just coming up with prices. Spent $205 on a green terror, blue acara (that died within 48 hours), and two XL pieces of spider wood.I’d also like to add that two stars for this business for the nice man that was helping me even though his recommendation was not right for my tank. Owner/manager checked me out and was arrogant and rude.

By far the best shop in San Antonio. Always getting in new corals and fish. The only shop you’ll need to go to. Pretty much everything in my tank is from Texas Tropical.

I am very disappointed on how the store has gone down ever since it was sold to the new owner and the manager Chris was fired. I went in the other day, and their selection of fresh and saltwater fish were close to none. I went looking for an aquarium which they had very little selection of not 6 tanks. In the past, they had all types of sizes along with stands. The one staff member was very rude and did not bother to address us walking into the store. It hurts me to say but after this visit I will not be coming back every again.

They have a decent variety of fish but a little pricey, my recent experience it seemed as if the younger gentleman just didn't want me there for whatever reason (maybe he was tired 🤷🏾‍♂️)... Won't be going back anytime soon

Customer service is absolutely unmatched. My wife and I went to several different marine stores and I can say with confidence that Texas Tropical and Marine is the most outstanding. I am new to salt water aquariums and the staff at the location did an outstanding job at helping me with my new set up. The store has lots of amazing fish and equipment. I will no doubt be making this my forever store. Thank you to the staff and keep up the great job that y’all are already doing.

Really helpful and super knowledgeable on exactly what you need and should get when starting a tank. We purchased a 90 gallon tank and wanted to learn how to start a saltwater tank. They helped us with everything.

Fair amnt of fresh water fishes to choose from not so much of salt water fishes. They do sell aquariums & accessories as well for ur tanks . Along with a variety of fish food to choose from. I came here for guppies which they had alot to choose from. But no assassin snails.

These guys know everything about tropical fish. I loved their selection - I wandered around the store and they have really neat tropical and saltwater fish/shrimp/lobsters and plants.They are also very honest.(Aquarium prices are awesome!)I'll definitely be back!!

I missed it and had to go back since there is no current signage. I was very pleasantly surprised at the difference between the exterior and interior of the store. The staff was very helpful and even though they did not have what I was looking for, they did offer alternatives that would work well with my aquarium. I’m looking for something specific so I didn’t purchase anything today, but I will be back.
