Helpful, nice assortment of tropical fish and relatively cleaner then the tropical fish establishment I went to on Vance Jackson30 minutes before I visited this place it smells like dead fish underneath a Fisherman Wharf! Mixed with nasty muddy water. I mean I swear to you this place was horrible on Vance Jackson. but South Seas, is definitely the place to purchase tropical fish whether you're a beginner or a veteran. This is literally the only fish store I shop from. The quality of care and fish are the best I've seen in San Antonio. Then on top of that the level of customer service from the owner and all of the employees is next level they truly care and are very attentive to their customers. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

eta - removed a star. journeyed in again 10 months later in search of freshwater test kits. box had been opened, one bottle had a 2017 expiration date and the other had 2014! looks like someone just switched one out, taped it up and put it back. needless to say, the 2014 test (that's four years from present, for anyone who reads this review in the future) reacts to nothing.i won't bother to return it; i'll consider this a $14 lesson and i won't darken their door another time. very sketchy indeed.initial review - mixed feelings. one guy sold me what exactly i needed, the other tried to sell me $130 lights (incredible overkill for what i'm doing). i'll probably go in again, but i'll be wary.

I went here for the first time last week and it is one of the best tropical fish stores I have been to. You could walk into this store for almost any aquarium need and find it here. They have a wide variety of healthy plants, coral, fresh and salt water fish that were living in clean well maintained tanks. I have rarely seen some of the aquatic life I saw there in other tropical fish stores twice their size. The coral selection was amazing to see because of all the different colors and sizes. On top of all the amazing aquatic life they managed to add a variety of equipment and food as well. The maintenance alone for all of these tanks and aquatic life to stay so healthy must take a considerable amount of work and time. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is because the service I received was curt. I felt that the worker wanted me to tell him what I wanted and then to get out as fast as possible. After purchasing my fish he didn’t say thank you, bye, come again, smile or anything. He asked if I needed anything else and when I said no he said ok and just walked away leaving my fish on the counter. I see other comments on how people had excellent customer service so I don’t know if the worker was having an off day or if everyone else had a different worker assist them. However, I will be going back because healthy fish are more important than customer service to me. Hopefully next time I have a more courteous employee.

decent selection. one of the main guys there is sooo rude, had very poor customer service. the other gentlemen there however was very nice and helpful. nice place to go, but I'll be doing my business elsewhereThe review wasn't solely based on the conversation about the water. Months ago when I first went it was the same thing. One gentleman was incredibly helpful and helped me determine I wanted to get into the saltwater hobby, then the other was rude, even my husband was surprised at the lack of customer service from him the first time around. I didnt write a review the first time because I intended on getting the fish, rock and food from the place that inspired it all. But after this morning, a review was needed.

I wanted to try this store because it was closer than the regular one I go to. The store is dirty and I’ve never been to an aquatic store that smells bad. I had to wait over 5 minutes for a staff person to come out from the back room to help me. Then he didn’t have the knowledge to help with a problem I was having with my tank. I also wanted to purchase a few common items I needed and they didn’t carry any of it. I was very disappointed with this store and will not return.

I have been to many fish stores in San Antonio and never found a good one until I found the hidden jewel by the name of South Seas Aquatics. It's very easy to tell if somebody actually has real knowledge about the hobby or is just trying to pretend that they have knowledge. The store is family owned and all the people running the store when I visited were very helpful. It's great to know that I have a fish store that I can depend on now to have great quality products almost all the time. Lastly, I was amazed with the cleanliness of the store as well because usually it's very hard to keep fish stores clean almost all the time.

Coral selection was diminished, but they did indicate they would be receiving a shipment earlier next week. Their mystery rocks were incredible. They're a great piece to kick-start an aquarium. Coral pricing was similar to competition. The gentleman gave me a great price on a hammer coral. I'll likely revisit the store.

I was visiting my mother in law in San Antonio, and she was having trouble with her salt water fish tank. David patiently and professionally guided my wife and me through troubleshooting a heating issue, even going so far as to provide my wife with his personal cell phone number so that we could send him pictures of the tank setup. That type of personal, caring customer service is extremely rare these days. As a result, we will make South Seas our primary stop for all of our tank needs. Thank you very much, David!

I’d like to first off thank Dave for his awesome help getting my saltwater tank set up three months ago (not personally, but with the how to’s and donts, my rockscaping and general info.) Since then, Dave and Gary have both been very helpful and informative. Gary had all the answers about all the fish I was interested in as far as care, food, space, compatibility, etc. Their selection is great, prices are good, and their customer service is above most. Been back every couple of weeks and I learn something new every time. They don’t try to sell me things I don’t need, but answer any questions on what I’m interested in and my future intentions for the tank(corals and inverts.) Most recently Dave helped me with a custom sump and fuge for my 55 gallon that I can’t wait to get set up! Thanks guys for your great customer service. Return customer for good!

David is very knowledgeable in his area of Marine water fish and their environment. He is friendly and straight to the point in how to take great care of the sea life you purchase. I have seen a a few stores in the San Antonio area but would only go to this guy due to the fact his fish looks more healthier and lively compared to the others I have seen to include the cleanliness of his tanks. Don’t trust this place I saw a nice coral I wanted for 15 bucks each that was thriving and he pushed them down and said he could take those off. I thought to myself will this dude thinks I’m new he just didn’t want to sell them to me at that price!! So he grabbed one that wasn’t even that good I bought it anyways because I didn’t want to make a a fuss of how dishonest that was!!! So don’t go here ever!!!!!!!
