Went in to get fish meds, saw this, and walked back out. This is ridiculous. I know comet goldfish produce a lot of ammonia but this is ridiculous. There's PILES of dead comet fish and the water was extremely cloudy. This indicates a build up of bacteria. I also saw a dead Oscar in another tank, he was floating and half of him was a skeleton from the other fish picking at it which tells me the tanks have been like this for a couple of days. I get it, all businesses are having employment problems right now. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Not an excuse though. Get the dead fish out and do some water changes. This is awful and neglectful.

I've had several dogs that used petco grooming services on a regular basis in the past. Lilith and her brother, Lucifer, have been receiving monthly baths at this and another location closer to my home. Her brother died last year of cancer, so it's just her now. On this occasion, we brought her to the Petco Austin Hwy groomer because my husband had an appointment close by. We figured we'd kill two birds with one stone; that was not the case. We were told her bath would take about 2-3 hours. When we dropped her off, we warned the technician that my dog is cautious about her paws being touched (nails clipped/filed or hair trimmed between her toes), Sometimes she let's them file or clip her nails, but not too often. About an hour in, I received a phone call from a rude woman who demanded that I immediately pick up my dog because she was being "aggressive." I don't know what happened or why my dog acted the way she did, but she was terrified! I told the lady I understood the dilemma, but I didn't have an immediate mode of transportation because I took my husband, a disabled veteran, to his VA appointment after dropping off my dog. The woman truly expected me to drop what I was doing and go get my dog, who was, by the way, still damped. This lady threatened to ban my dog from future services if I didn't pick up my dog right away. I politely asked her to put my dog under a dryer or something because even if I could pick up my dog right away, I didn't want my dog to be wet. She didn't care, so I hung up on her because I felt like I was talking to a wall. Then, a nicer gentleman called me a few minutes later and left a detailed message of my dog's behavior, and apologized. He said we wouldn't get charged, which we didn't. My dog was terrified!

Any pet food you could need is found here. Extremely helpful staff. On pet adoption day any ?'s are answered. I went in for alage eaters for my outdoor freshwater fish tank-had multiple types, I didn't expect a variety! Not a huge variety of freshwater fish though.. but there are some very entertaining to see &*frogs!

Only reason it’s getting a 1 star is bc I want to leave a review. Went to get my dog groomed bath and hair cut. They didn’t cut her hair bc she kept looking back at the groomer and she was scared shouldn’t they have just muzzled her? She also still smells bad they apparently didn’t wash her good enough. Barley cleaned her ears. And her nails looked they were barely trimmed. Overall was a terrible job and should be ashamed of themselves. I shouldn’t have even payed for the terrible service they did.

I would have given higher if they had more of the petco brand of cat food in stock. I was looking for Salmon and they only had kitten in stock as well as even in chicken it was limited availability. I had to get grain free which isnt the end of the world but would have liked to have salmon like my cats are used to.

I come to this Petco all the time! And today for the 1st was told that the bags at checkout are $0.10 each I've never been told this nor did I think the cashier was actually talking about the disposable plastic bags but she was. So is this new that Petco is just now letting their customers know about assuming y'all were just charging with out notifying people shame on you Petco at least charge for reusable bags. The fact the cashier says y'all have done this for a year is news to me I was here last month and was not told I'd be charged for a disposable bag .

Yall have a girl with glasses working there today. (11 am) that should not be working at a petco. Very rude when I asked a simple question and her response was "I'm not a vetenarian" obviously I know that but you work at a petco and should have common knowledge. I've never had a bad experience here till today.

Omg!!! I’m so in love with her new look! ❤️❤️ I wish I took a before and after pic of my husky Raven! This was her first time she’s ever gotten groomed by anyone besides me. I was a bit nervous due to a few past groomers I used to work with and was skeptical about if the service would be done properly! My friend vicktoria referred me to this location and had her dog kodiak done by the groomers at this location and he came out phenomenal! So I took a gamble and was so glad I did! Thank you so much Karissa!!! She trimmed her butt fluff EXACTLY how I wanted it! I highly recommend coming here!!! I can’t wait to get her groomed again!!! Thank u so much!!!!

My dog, Buster is a year-old mini schnauzer and can be difficult to work with. He has been seeing Alana at Petco on Austin Highway for his grooming and she has done a wonderful job working with him, despite his hard-to-handle behaviors at time. I highly recommend Petco for grooming.

Friendly staff. However, the animals and fish are very poorly cared for. Poor care for the aquariums, dead fish. The hermit crabs are left in poor humidity and I even saw a poor hermit that was without its shell just twitching and dying. Horrible.

I will admit, Petco was not the first place that I considered for grooming. I was looking at all sorts of private groomers first. But then I saw that the store had good reviews, and I requested Alana. She was so friendly, sweet, and professional, when we met that I felt instantly at ease leaving Lily with her. When I picked Lily up, she had a beautiful schnauzer trimmed face just as I had requested her nails were even shorter than I had dreamed they could get them, and Lily looked happy and comfortable. Fast forward a few months and we brought Lily in for a bath and an eyebrow trim and Again saw Alana. She remembered Lily and that is really nice. She then did a great job giving Willie a bath and some extra little grooming. I can’t remember the name of a tech who saw our dog, Lucy, but Lucy had the FURminator treatment because her coat had become so thick for summer, and we don’t like to trim her. it was amazing how much it thinned out Lucy’s coat and we know that she will be more comfortable this summer in the Texas heat. I am super impressed with every employee I have come in contact with at this location. I highly recommend them as a store, and as a groomer .

Be careful if you order online and pick up in store for the discount. I placed an online order for an aquarium filter and substrate for the discount. I received a confirmation number then an immediate cancellation. I called customer support to see what happened and they stated that one item on my order was out of stock... The funny thing is that it is not out of stock since I was in the store as I placed the order! Customer service worked with me to place an order for the "in-stock" item after calling the store and confirming the filter was in stock. The order goes through and is, again, immediately cancelled. I go ask the store manager what is going on and apparently they are allowed to not sell items online if they have low stock in store... The best she would be able to do is sell it to me at the normal price. For both of these orders money was taken from my account almost as fast as the order was placed. Granted, the money will be refunded but it still seems ridiculous that they can accept orders, take money, then immediately cancel an order because the discount it too good.Scummy tactics but I don't expect anything else from a pet store that is terrible at taking care of pets.

Came to get my dogs nails clipped and employees here decided to leave earlier than hours posted for grooming service. Very unprofessional and should at least have a sign or change the hours for accuracy on website. Waste of time.

I love this petco!!!! Lacey and Karissa are amazing groomers and make me and my dog feel so welcome and safe. I get very anxious taking my dog out because she does not like other dogs, but they have worked with me and been patient with all my questions and concerns. Will most definitely be back again

Fish in very poor shape. Ammonia is very high in the betta cups. Lots of dead tetras. Tanks are infested with ich!Employees are very rude, can over hear them talking about customers and lack of communication from employees to customers. I spend hundreds of dollars in this store. They won’t see me back after todays incident.

I’ve done lots of research on getting an Betta fish and was finally ready to pick one out. Came to the store to find more than half of them dead. The ones that were alive were laying at the bottom of the cup not moving and just breathing. I understand Betta fish can’t be housed together and it’s unfortunate that they put them in to go soup containers but how are you gonna let there be dead ones on display? I makes me wonder how often they feed them - if they even do. One was so decomposed the water was cloudy and not a single employee noticed? The tanks against the wall also had multiple dead fish in them. Absolutely horrible experience. I’ll be going elsewhere for any animal item I need as I normally buy my dog food and other items from Petco but after that I don’t have an interest supporting such a horrible business.

Ok I don't care what anyone says, this is the best Petco location in San Antonio. They have all the best products, the best employees and the best quality food aside from ordering directly from pet food companies. I just got a puppy and the trainer stopped us and had us sign up for a pal account immediately. You pay 20.00 a month but get 15.00 in store credit once a month so basically 5.00 bucks. You also get 20.00 in store credit from vet visits, build up points to get more money, grooming visits etc. I had already gone to 2 other locations as well as 2 PetSmart's and not a single person has explained anything like this to us! I am a month on to owning my puppy and have already had 80.00 in store credit racked up between vet bills, puppy purchases and my pal rewards. SO worth it! This is the target of pet stores and no one can convince me otherwise. K thanks 🙏
