The Tropical Fish Store has been around for decades! The staff are knowledgeable, have great patience, especially when a young customer wants a "Particular Specific Fish" to take home. There are "Other" fish stores in town that look all fancy and pretty and their prices reflect that but if you want that personal home grown feel, Fintique is the place to shop for all your aquarium needs.

Great variety of fish (salt & fresh) combined with the best prices in town. Not only is it well stocked in terms of livestock, there's also plenty of rocks, driftwood, tanks, backgrounds, filters...anything you need! Store is clean, customer service is top-notch and employees are friendly.

Great place to buy specialty fish! They have a knowledgeable staff. They will help you diagnose your water problems. Bring a sample of your water. They have shipments come weekly. Call up ahead to see if they have what you want in stock. Great prices. I've gotten most of my fish there.

My go-to for anything aquarium. They have a huge selection of tropical fish and some salt water fish. Prices are cheaper than most places in town. And they offer discounts on certain days of the week when they get their live stock shipments.

Got two mbunas for 4.99 ones I didn't have for my 75 gallon, and some live plants for my 20 gallon, plants were cheaper than my local fish store, I will be visiting fintique more often to get my plants and search for mbunas that I dont have, best prices in town hands down

Fintique is amazing! The fish keeping hobby is my happy place, and this store has blown me away with its affordable prices, friendly service and healthy selection of high quality fish! I don’t like going anywhere else for my aquarium needs. I go at least once a week and never regret stopping in. I did purchase a fancy fantail goldfish that was mislabeled as Oranda and she did have two tiny ich spots on her tail, but a bit of aquarium salt and a high tank temp fixed that up easy. What can you expect with a bunch of water piggy goldie’s in a small shop tank? None of the fish are dead and floating in tanks or visibly distressed like big chain stores.. *cough* a fungal infection that infected my goldfish tank via a black moor from PetLand really broke my heart! I hate losing fish!I don’t even feel like a long quarantine time is necessary with the fish here. I usually observe behavior for a day or two and inspect fins/scales closely before adding, but I added my dwarf gourami from Fintique to my community tank as soon as he was acclimated in the bag 😂 I was excitedI’ve purchased Amano shrimp, nerite and ramshorn snails, show quality fancy goldfish, lively endler guppies, a stunning gourami, planted substrates, hard scapes, tanks, food, meds you name it and I bet they have what you need.Anyways I’ll keep coming here because it’s worth it! Im sure the staff is tired of seeing my face by now, but I hope they know how much happiness they bring to me with this hobby and my love for fish. Nobody else quite “gets it” like they do. I spent $140 buying two Discus, and not even 1 week later Both of them die from a sickness they had when i bought them. And i was told to put a certain medication in the tank and it would go away. With no luck on getting the sickness to go away. I call into the store and ask if they can do anything since both died in less then a week and they tell me they don't offer warranty on any fish no matter the price. I've never bought fish from somewhere who doesn't offer even a 7 day warranty. I've always come here to get fish and every time i have bought fish they are always sick and die. This is heart breaking because i spent $140.00 and all they say is Sorry nothing we can do. And also my mother bought Swords tail mollies from here and they are also dying within less then a week. But yet all the other fish in our tank are super healthy and thriving. That was the worst customer service I've ever gotten. I will not recommend anyone to buy fish here. I have posted pictures of how they look from the disease, and pictures of when i first got them. I don't like posting bad reviews but its not right for them not to even offer anything for the $140 fish not even lasting 1 week.

This place is older but it has the best prices around and the staff are all very knowledgeable. They also have a small selection of reptile and bird supplies cheaper than big box stores

Parking is not the best. Fish selection is pretty good. Bought a veil angle fish and I'm going back later to get a couple of Discus fish. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable about their fish.

I always love taking a trip to Fintique. I rarely leave without discovering a new species that I was previously unfamiliar with. This trip I added done absolutely adorable Pea Puffers to my new bedside tank, and I'm absolutely IN LOVE! Fintique is a San Antonio staple that I'm thrilled to still see thriving.

Fintique is a local treasure - it’s been here in the neat ol’ Williams Building (1952) in neat ol’ Los Angeles Heights since 1972 - (and) every time I come here (since I was a kid in the early ‘80s), I always think that someone really needs to make a documentary about it, the overall vibe is super retro and supremely quirky and it has the most interesting group of employees (who’ve all been here forever), they’re all just exceptionally eccentric (and friendly as heck) - like folks’ you’d see in “Twin Peaks” (the old cute one, not the new scary one) - oh yeah, and the selection is top notch and the prices are low (what more could you ask for?) - Long Live Fintique! 🐟 🐠 🐟

Impressive stock and unbeatable prices. I've gotten freshwater cichlids, angels, bichirs, roseline sharks, guaramis, loaches, you name it in Amarillo, Lubbock, and Roswell, NM and no one matches the price and stock of Fintique. I got al full 20 gallon set for a great price as well. Staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Great store for any new or experienced aquarist!

I have shopped here for years. Great selection, knowledgeable employees. I have not purchased fish any place else. Some of my glow fish were 5 years old and very healthy.A couple of months ago I went in for more fish. Got 2 glow fish and 3 green tetras.In less than 10 days from the purchase every fish in my tank died. I quarantined the new fish for 7 days.I lost 12 fish and don't think I'll go back.I did notice the tanks were not being kept up and many were full of snails. I should have listened to my gut and gone elsewhere.

HOBBIEST BEWARE and also newcomers. I've bought fish here before and had horrible experiences with them. I had bought 12 rummy nose tetras (5.99 roughly) and seven galaxy danios at I think 7.99 a pop which is extremely expensive. Usually as a hobbyist I'd say "if the fish is pricy, should be a better quality and treated well." I was wrong because I ended up losing all the fish in less than three months, I was P.ONow for my more recent story. I went in a few days ago just to browse, mind you I haven't been there in about a year in a half. So as a person I thought to myself "maybe they have improved". Boy was I wrong. I bought some really nice looking Blue Platties (which I had planned on breeding in my outdoor pond) But they all went down in health rapidly. I lost one a day after, then two yesterday, and now one tonight.I've taken classes in aquatics, I know what a sick fish looks like and I know how to keep the water quality and chemicals balanced perfectly. All these fish went into properly cycled tanks with amazing sponge filters and all died. I won't recommend spending money here period because you'll just be disappointed. And as a hobbyist and aspiring Marine Biologist, it saddens me that a store would keep sick fish and still sell them. I should have known due to my past experience with Fintique, I even premedicated the water to prevent illness but looks like the fish were doomed from the start.What really grinds my gears is NO GUARANTEES. Freshwater isn't expensive, unlike saltwater. (Please don't even spend money on their saltwater). At least do a partial refund or something for freshwater.So in conclusion, don't spend here at all. Yes the store is very pretty, everything is nicely put together, but don't spend on fish. I'd recommend going to a big box store (at least you'll get an exchange) or elegant reef on Nakoma and West Ave. Petsmart on Bandera is a good place to go, I still have my platties from there after almost two years. The platties even survived when I nuked my tank with too much CO2. And right across the street the Petco would also be better, just look at their fish more carefully. Petsmart offers a 14 day guarantee (bring the fish body and receipt) Petco has a 30 day guarantee (bring body and receipt).Spend your time at Petco, Petsmart, or Elegant Reef. You'll "tank" me later.These fish were also in a temporary tank, and if I could give zero stars I would.

Such a really cool place and the customer service is great. So helpful and friendly. I can’t even tell you how long this place has been open I know it’s a really long time decades. These people seem to know everything about fish and aquariums pumps. Very knowledgeable which makes your visit more at ease cause you know your walking out of that store with the right product.

I love coming here for all of my fish's needs and basic care equipment. The staff is very knowledgable and really helpful whether you're looking to get into owning an aquarium or upgrading your current set up.
