I have been visiting this place for a long time now. I love the self dog wash stations they have, it's probably the easiest way to wash your dog ever. Comes with lots of things to help with the process. The reason for not 5 stars is their soap and conditioner through the water sprayer sucks, it never actually works, like ever... Easily remedied, as I just bring my own of course, but would be nice if it functioned right?The staff is fairly pleasant, a troll or two around, but at least they will help if asked.Dog food prices are unfortunately not competitive, I always check and they are almost always the highest prices around for the exact same products I can buy elsewhere cheaper, which I do. I guess y'all gotta make a buck somehow, right?Absolutely an awesome selection of dog chew/treat items, top notch collection. My pup always wants to cruise the aisles and check them ALL out.Overall, most favorite pet store, even with it's flaws. My dog agrees too.

The last two times that I have come here, two of the groomers, Kayla and Mariah, have treated us horribly and been very racist. In November, I had come to take my dog to get her bath and haircut, she was brushed out and ready for her trim. Mariah had her that day and upon arriving to the appointment, she simply told me she would have to charge me extra because she sees my dog is matted. She had not even held my dog. We had brushed her hair out previously, and I let her know that she is not matted and we simply need a trim and bath. She kept insisting and even made me sign that if worse comes to worse she would need to shave her down because of her matts. When we came to pick her up, she was not shaved down, but Mariah still charged us extra making our expense over $100 (usually it’s $85-$90), and when we got home, our dog was shedding all the hair she had gotten trimmed. Our dog is not the breed that sheds and has NEVER shed.The second time was today the 23rd of December, I just came in and had records of her vaccination for Rabies. Her doctor listed down when she got her vaccination and the next time she would be renewing it in the certification, but both Kayla and Mariah said they could not take in my dog because they need an exact expiration date on her vaccines even though it is stated in her vaccination record that she was vaccinated for rabies on 8th of December of this year and that it is good for next the three years. Kayla and Mariah insisted that they cannot accept that and they would need the exact date that it expires because they cannot determine whether it would expire this year within her grooming time or later. Every time we have brought her in before, it was never a problem. We have had the same vet since she was with us. I had them call the Vet and they said they did not pick up and would not even leave a message with their number stating they could not confirm until a person picked up. I said if you leave a message, the receptionist will call you back immediately and let you know, but if you don’t leave your number then they won’t be able to call you back with the information. They said they will not do it and will not even serve us, they then moved on to the next customer and without any other conversation, Kayla grabbed her dog and went to the back while Mariah helped her with paperwork. They never pulled up my paperwork even when I booked a week in advance for my appointment. This is OUTRAGEOUS, and overly unprofessional of them. This to be noted here that we had been visiting this place for over a year now, and before these two ladies, the previous crew were always nice and professional. I would like to know who else had been mistreated like us. I would urge Petco management to look into this matter seriously to avoid further mistreatment of customers. We will not be coming back here again after the way they treated us.

Gromming area here is the worst that I had experienced. They are going to charge you ALWAYS a way more fees than the standard fee for a bath and shortcut. They will find your dog matted, lots of shades, every single excuse counts to charge you 25 or 30 or even more over the standard fee. Horrible, aggressive and rude attitude from Sebastian. He is calling you always 2/3 times ahead of your appointment to ask you to change your booked time in order to suits his schedule. He has an arrogant attitude when you complain about the extra charges that he added without any single consultation. I told the manager about how rude he was and he said “fine”. So nobody cares here about customer service. Pls don’t leave your dog for gromming here if you don’t want to have a bad experience.

For being a new store I’m disappointed! Went in to pick up medicine for my cat & did the normal browse through the store like normal and I was sad to see how the animals looked so uncared for, some of the hamsters and rats were walking and smearing feces through their cages and no food or water.. dead fishes in their bowls also looked like they hadn’t been fed.. super sad ☹️☹️ Not to mention the workers on shift were super rude asking for help seemed like a bother.. DO BETTER petco!

We purchased a $92 big bag of puppy food for our German Shepard, upon opening the bag AND FEEDING it to my dog, I put the scooper in the bag and noticed there were multiple kinds of bugs crawling around. Worms, black bugs I am so disappointed. Not only because it cost a good amount but because this could potentially make my 8 month old puppy sick.

The sales rep who I spoke with- his name was Quad- was exceptionally helpful with me needs- a 4.2 lb Yorkie in selecting appropriate food, and housebreaking spray along with a couple of other items and things to consider as she gets older and larger- He also helped me find a recommended dog food(Eukanuba for puppies less than 25#'s) that other stores did not have or at which I couldnt get assistance such as what he provided...Thanks to him, I will be back

Wish I could give a 0! I went to get a cat deterant as it was listed as available. I live only 10 minutes away, so it should have been a simple trip. I couldn't locate the item, so I went to the cashier to ask for assistance; what should have been an easy request. When I asked, the cashier, he said I had to place an order online in order to find it; seriously?! I asked if maybe his manager knew, but rather than call him, he insisted I place an online order. I really needed the item, so I did what he asked. Once it went through, he spent 2 minutes looking (more like taking quick glances) before saying " I don't know were it is, ill call the manager". The manager wasn't helpful and the two of them just stood several feet away so I couldn't hear the conversation. Then the cashier just said " we're doing a reset so we don't have it. Come back in 1-2 weeks". ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Sound more like it's in a box and you 2 are too lazy to go look for it, if you're doing a reset then you need to change inventory while items aren't on the floor. I was reasonably irritated and said "so I just wasted time with that order you told me to place" He rolls his eyes before saying I was issued a refund. I left and checked the Sugarland store off hwy 6 and Williams Trace, and low and behold, they had the item. What should have been a quick 10 min trip was now a 45 minute trip. The staff at Sugarland were SO GREAT and saved the day! I am NEVER coming back to the Richmond location ever again! I hope the district manager reads this and makes some serious changes to the staff. The cashier needs mayor training on customer service and the manager needs stern discipline or both need to be replaced. I also work in the industry and I know for a fact if I was ever this horrible to a customer, they would have called corporate, the district manager would have called my boss and I would be fired in the same day!

Every single time I go to this petco, there is always someone with an attitude, I brought my 6 week old puppy to have his nails cut and they told me I had to wait until he’s 8 weeks and had a shot (understandable). Then I brought him back at 9 weeks and he also had a shot. Then they told me he had to be 10 weeks and have two shots also his shot record proving he had them. I took him a few stores down to pet smart and had no problems. Also I tried to go the day before around 4:30 so I called to make sure they were open. A lady with an attitude answered and said that they dont close until 5 but they closed up early.

Usually Petco is our store of choice for dog food, toys etc.This time we wanted to try the grooming service because our girl schnauzer was badly matted from some time at the dog sitter. We pretty much knew everything needs to come off but the groomer on shift that day (big, tall, long black hair guy) at Petco never really had any intention to do it. He said we might need to sedate her because of the pain this will cause because it’s too badly matted and it will cause too much stress and discomfort and might start to bleed. He didn’t even recognize that she is a schnauzer. He sounded like it will be too much work for him and told us to look for a vet groomer instead. We went to a different groomer and we were given an appointment to fix the issue. We were told at that place there will be no issue to shave and give our schnauzer a teddy bear head. But we had to wait for a few day days to have our dog on schedule because they are fully booked. We eventually ended up doing it ourselves. Our first try, no issues, no blood like what the Petco groomer said. By Petco grooming for us.

I bought a 40 gallon fish tank from this location and these guys are great. I’ve had fish tanks in the past but always had very little knowledge of them. Today this guy named Peter was very patient and very informative about how raising fish and how keeping your tank up. I normally don’t write reviews on customer service but with this guy it was worth it. Absolutely love this location will shop again.

I went in today to purchase two collars for both of my dogs. One is a growing puppy so I hit the clearance bin. Almost all the stuff in the bin is not marked, so I had to look it up online. I found a collar marked $19.99 but on clearance for $9.99. When I went to check out I did not notice it scanned for $19.99. I got out the doors before I realized the difference. I went back in to inform the cashier and showed her on my phone it was $9.99. She told me that I need to tell them the price of the clearance items. I thought it was supposed to scan at the clearance price. She started to do my refund but got a call on her cell phone in the middle of it and stopped to answer the call. Very rude thing to do. She passed me off to another associate to finish my refund while she took her call. PetSmart is alot closer to me but I wanted to give Petco a try because they have a better rewards program. I don’t know if it would be worth the drive anymore.

The grooming department at this Particular Petco is terrible. Dog was apparently over matted but he goes to get washed and brushed every 5 weeks. Got charged for extra brushing and shaving at the same time and per the groomer next time he gets matted they need for take him to the vet to sedate and shaved. Took over 6 hours to get him back. There’s no next time. I should have know there’s an issue with the grooming department when they had same day appointments available. Last time walking into Petco.

I usually take my 3 dogs to this Petco to always get groomed, I live 1hr away, and I never had a problem until today. I received a call around 2pm from keyla the groomer who saw my poodle telling me that from now on they wont be able to see him any more because He was biting her and being aggressive, However what she forgot to tell me is that before He started doing all of that, She actually hurt him and burned his skin. No wonder my little guy was defending himself! I am baffled by The staff's lack of professionalism on how they handle this situation.

So dissatisfied with the grooming. They did not brush my dog at all like it said in the service “15 minute brushing” i had to brush him myself. Did not trim the hair under his paws and his nails are sharp as a knife. Not going back to petco!

WORST DELIVERY SERVICE! ZERO Stars! This is the second time my dogs food is delays. The store certainly does withdraw the funds with 5 days in advance but my dogs food does not get delivered til a week later! I called and all they say is sorry for the delay. You will have to feed your dog until your food arrives. I asked if there was any way this can get resolved. I was told no to keep waiting.WORST SERVICE ever!

This store is woefully understaffed. Jared and his cashier were running their tails off trying to give the customers good service. Every other Petco I've been to has at least 4 people working. Does corporate want this store to fail?

The poor animals in the cages and tanks are not taken care of properly. I wish the store owners would have live like the animals they have in their store….disgusting. This place is filthy everything on the shelves is in disarray. I grabbed an item off the shelf that had a price in it but at the register it had a different price. Won’t be back, I will get my pet supplies somewhere else where they take pride in their store and products.

The staff is very helpful but not overly so, they're available when you need them. They have a good stock for just about any pet short of livestock. The store is clean and orderly and doesn't stink. Very nice business, I'll be back.

I went there to stop by and look at animals, and the employees were so kind to me. They keep the store extremely sanitary considering they house multiple types of animals, and they talked with me for the whole time I was there. Very kind people. Definitely will be able to help with any requests (within reason)that you may have.

Very disappointed with the way my dogs hair was cut . They cut him how they wanted after I showed him a picture. My dog is fluffy and his hair is super short now. Looks awful! My dog did not come back the same, very bad experience!
