Adopted our little newest family member here, and it was such a great experience. They were patient with us and our kids while picking out a puppy, even though we ended up staying a bit past closing time. You can just tell they really have a heart for these animals. They even gave us a nice discount. It was very affordable. Thank you BARC!!! Stay awesome!

I was not told the correct breed of either dog that I adopted. This proved to be most unfortunate for everyone involved.

Kind of loving people. They didn't have room for my dog, but they called and got her the most wonderful home. By God's grace. She can have a better life. Thank you all. Very much god bless

My dodo bloodhound got out and these folks genuinely care and want the best for pups. They took the time to listen to me and see pics of my lost baby, take my number, and reassure me. My boy came home right after I spoke with them so they didn't have to capture or call but knowing they are there and are willing to help is wonderful. Thank you BARC

Very nice location. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The kitty area is especially nice, but just a warning the dog area is extremely loud, which is totally normal, but with it being indoor, it echoes and amplifies the barking even more than usual. They do offer noise protection headsets, so definitely put them on any kids you bring. Overall, it was very clean and honestly one of the least stinky animal shelters I have ever been to.

Over the years, the staff was friendly but after certain circumstances at my home my parents had made me return a cat I had adopted. As a result, they had to make a rude Facebook post about how their owner “could not take care of their pet” post. The lady that’s older in charge has NO professionalism for a Humane Society. I’m sorry that I had to return a pet from you guys but not everyone is a pet owner or has the RIGHT environment for them.

I was so excited to adopt a puppy from here. But he needed his other set of shots before we could take him home. We went back in a few weeks to get him and they gave us the wrong dog. I took him thinking maybe they just shaved him. After the first night home I realized he had a totally different personality and his eyes were a different color. So I took him back to get the dog I wanted and they had explained that they got the dogs mixed up and the dog I was supposed to get had already been adopted.

I absolutely love the staff and their facilities! My family had to bring a dog in because of personal issues and I wanted to know when he got adopted, they let me know he went to a nice couple and I was so happy for him! We additionally got a medium dog here that is so lovely, we'll most definitely be coming back soon to get myself a fur baby hopefully!

Made an appointment to come in and view dogs not a single person introduced themselves or talked to us. Walked past two people that worked at the place and none of them bothered to help. How do you expect someone to adopt a animal without even showing them around or at least speaking.

We had tornadoes touch down all around us & then a stray with a green collar showed up at our house 🏠 we made every effort to find the owner. Once we decided to take the dog 🐕 to BARC they had no room for him, but said to bring him back 2 days later & provided food for him for those extra days.

This place is AMAZING. These people work their "tails" off to care for these animals and they keep it very clean. And the way the staff loved these fur babies is incredible!!! Please adopt one of their sweet babies. Go see what animals are there, hold them, spend time with them. You will fall in love❤❤💙❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The animals are well taken care of, the place is clean and well run. The staff is friendly and polite. The grounds are not much to look at , but the inside is decorated in a cheerful way.

I took a dog here that was dropped off at my farm. Since i already have 7 dogs i wanted this dog to go to a home where it would get the love and attention it needed. I was rold immediately that they had no room and no vet today so if i left the dog it would be euthanized. They didnt look at the dog or ask about his temperment just went straight to euthanasia. Needless to say as i am standing there crying for this poor dog i decided to not give them that opportunity. You would think that the staff there would have more compassion and maybe some do but the lady at the check in desk on january 24, 2020 at 11:00 am sure does not.

As someone who volunteered, most of the people who work here try their best and really want to help, they really do. This is not to criticize any workers or volunteers, but those who make policy. The policies and health and handling rules in place by whoever higher up decides these things are a death sentence for many animals. If an animal makes it up to the front with all its vaccinations, it is very fortunate. There is no policy in place to vaccinate upon intake. There is feline parvovirus in the intake/observation room where dozens of cats are in close proximity so, for any kittens brought in and not immediately vaccinated with a modified live virus, it is basically a death sentence unless they are extremely lucky.Parvovirus lives in the environment for up to a year, and they’re never going to keep it out of those rooms. The only chance those young animals have is more timely vaccination. The delay in your policy is making many of them suffer unnecessarily.FPV aka panleukopenia is up to 90%+ fatal in young cats. There were animals that had died overnight every day I came in to volunteer. This sudden death is almost always FPV.Despite this, no one is instructed to follow special handling rules for sick cats or cats still alive in cages with a dead one. No one is instructed to handle those last each day or to change gloves and wash their hands in between handling them and other animals. So, while these cages are being cleaned and each animal picked up and handled to be moved, the virus is being spread to unvaccinated kittens and they are sentenced to death.I tried to save a little girl from this room but she died to panleukopenia. She had been taken away from her mother so no longer was receiving antibodies from milk, and should have been vaccinated upon intake. I had to watch her become paralyzed, breathe like her lungs were collapsing, fall over when trying to stand, dive face first into her food bowl because she was starving but was unable to open her mouth to eat—only push her face around in the food.We loved that little girl and it traumatized us to have to see her suffer so. We are heartbroken at the needless suffering of these animals. Sure, most of them will be euthanized anyway due to no fault of anyone, just too much supply and too little demand, but there is no reason for them to suffer like this before they die.If those making the policies have a heart and had to watch the absolute torture and agony these animals go through before dying, they might start vaccinating. I will never forget the screams of that little girl anytime we left her side, she was so terrified and confused because she had just been happy and playful days earlier while the virus was incubating.Again, I reiterate, this is not the fault of employees or volunteers.Until immunization policies change and education and rules on health and handling while performing daily cleaning is improved, I will no longer be volunteering here. It is too depressing. You are simply moving around animals already sentenced to death, and exposing them to an agonizing and almost always fatal virus that could have been vaccinated against.

I had never had any experience with this facility. Palestine Police had them take Maxi, Momma's 8 year old, little, long-haired Chihuahua, when Mom and Maxi were involved in a horrible traffic accident this spring. When Mom came to she was really worried about was Maxi. I went to get Maxi while they transferred Mom to the trauma center in Tyler. When I finally learned where Maxi was, BARC was closed and their sign said they were closed the next day too! I prayed frantically that Maxi would be ok and flew back to Tyler to be with Mom.In faith I told my Momma that the police had turned her over to people who loved animals and who knew the signs of internal injuries and had a vet who could help Maxi if she was hurting.I made arrangements for a friend to get Maxi and it was such a wonderful relief to see this much loved pet was so well cared for. I THANK GOD for those that cared for Maxi.
