They wanted $400.00 for me to adopt a mixed small breed dog . Sounds like they got a money making operation, on top of the Thousands of dollars they get in Donations .... 💰💰💰💰

We adopted our Stella this past Friday after Thanksgiving. Went in just looking but after looking at all the puppies she stuck with us, we kept talking about her so had to bring her home. Very cost effective place with vaccines and spaying her were in the adoption fee.

Wonderful staff. They responded immediately to all my issues. My favorite aspect is the dogs that are allowed to roam freely with visitors. I would love it if more of the dogs could do that - it really gives you a sense of their personalities. If you’re interested in pulling the trigger on an adoption it’s best to go after 1pm to apply (in my experience). The manager is there and she can make it happen fairly quickly for you. We adopted our puppy Nellie this year and couldn’t be more pleased.

The dogs were living in filth and the cats were 100 bucks and it lo-key had a "breeding Mill" feel

Popularity contest- they arranged a group meet and greet because multiple people wanted the same dog. We were first to show up. The dog spent most of the time with our family while there the employee wrote multiple positive notes on our application. The only other family that the dog paid any attention to was a loud family of 4 that showed up over an hour after us and the dog didn’t like the dad of that family. They ended up adopting him to some other family which is great I hope he has a good home….but be HUMANE, and let us know you gave him to another family. We checked almost everyday for 4 days. My daughter went with us and asked everyday if we would get him and I had to break her heart.

I highly recommend adopting, there are so many animals that need a chance. So many have had such horrible lives! And I hate calling them animals because people are the animals! I would rather call them innocent victims of humans! I can’t imagine how Jesus feels when he looks down on us and sees what people have done to his creations! If this makes a difference in just one more innocent baby getting a good home with people who love them unconditionally then it’s worth me writing to remind everybody they are Gods animals! WWJD?

Amazing shelter for dogs and cats. They really take a lot of pain to keep this place running. Great place to adopt pets for your loved ones at home.

We didn't have a very good experience at the humane society here in Odessa. We had to figure out how to get in the place and once we did there were a couple of workers sitting down outside talking amongst themselves and they didn't greet us or even help us by telling us where to go or who to speak to. We had found a little puppy early that morning and didn't know what to do with it so we thought we'd take it to the humane society and they would take over from there. After standing around for twenty minutes waiting for the volunteers or workers to acknowledge us we went inside a little office looking for someone else to help us without success. In the meantime there were a few people dropping off donations for the place and they too were ignored and asked us if we'd let the owners or volunteers know that they left donations... Finally after standing there a total of about thirty minutes the one lady who was talking with the other lady (volunteers/workers) asked if anyone had helped us in the little office we went inside and after telling her no one had helped us yet she went inside and called someone from in the back to help us.... After explaining to the lady who we assume owns the place about finding the little puppy and that we couldn't keep it (our apartment complex won't allow it) she cut us off and said they were too full and that they couldn't keep it either. We understand that these places are overcrowded but we were just two old women trying to do our best by taking the little guy somewhere where it wouldn't get ran over etc.... She told us that maybe it was best to just take him to the shelter (it's a kill shelter) rather than leave him out on the street to fend for himself... She said that sometimes putting them to sleep was better than them running the streets guys. We were flabbergasted given that this was a place that was supposed to help and given the fact that the little puppy was healthy and probably only three months old. He was well taken care of at some point and there wasn't a flea or tick on him.... He deserved a chance but she was adamant about not being able to keep him even though I was willing to donate money for his care. Long story longer we were literally sobbing when we left the human society out west of town here in Odessa because of their lack of professionalism and compassion. After going home and reading through all the pet sites ( I listed him on at least five pet sites) I'd listed him on when I found him earlier that morning (I heard him yelping and crying at five in the morning) I finally found a lady who came and got him. However, it's just heartbreaking and unbelievable when an owner of a rescue advises us to take him to a kill shelter because they can't take him. Especially when we were willing to donate for his care.... I will never go to the humane society again and they really need to work on their people skills and how to be at least semi professional when you're dealing with people who want to help. My heart breaks for the animals that have been turned away because of her recommendations to take them to a kill shelter! We've gotta do better. Thanks for letting me tell y'all about my experience with the humane society here in Odessa Texas.(The one that's way out west of town) ok

They need any kind of support anyone can give like volunteers and they are hiring. They try to take in so many animals but are limited. Go adopt there not at a pet store they need help.I got a bueatiful white dog one eye blue and the other brown. Shes been a wonderful addition to our family. So you'll know all they offer when adopting an animal with them. They line you up with appointments for there shots and another appointment to have a chip put in and neutering process included when purchasing an animal. Thanks for you all..The Johnson Family

I was in contact with them for 2 days trying to adopt a dog. I was ignored more than once and had to keep reaching out. My questions were never answered and because I live out of town was an issue. I was going to be picking up the animal but because I didn’t live there was a problem. I offered to fill out all paperwork needed and to pay ahead of time due to the pup not being ready. The lady was very rude! Text me and gave so much attitude and told me I can not adopt. NEVER will I try to adopt from y’all again. You want your animals to have homes yet make it impossible! To top it off I went to the post on Facebook to mention I tried to adopt and they deleted my comment and blocked me from being able to comment. This place is a joke!!

Very friendly staff. They are world class folks. They put all their hearts and sweat into taking care of the animals. Heather has an outstanding staff. Please consider here when you are looking for a pet to adopt. I promise you will be happy with the results. Thank you Kelly for helping me with my dog. Great job guys.

This place was horrible. I’m not sure how anyone could leave a positive review. Every dog cage was filthy. All the dog cages are tiny and some of them stand on pallets. It breaks my heart for these animals. I’ve never seen anything so horrible.

I got a new bull terrier puppy from outside of the facility and was able to get the basic vaccinations and deworming for just $20 per dose. They were able to confirm the age of my dog to ensure he was old enough to receive the vaccs. It seems like a well maintained facility and I appreciate the services they offer.

Donations are welcome and always needed for cats and dogs. New pet beds and treats can help make these babies comfortable. If you know someone that is looking for a fur baby, please remember to adopt from the humane society or the local pound.

It was very sad to walk through the main area with dogs on each side. They were very loud and seemed aggressive, the gates were barely locked on a couple of the kennels. Even if they weren't aggressive, the way they are presented to visitors made it seem like they are. It broke my heart to see a few of the dogs stressed out in the corner of their cage and cowering. The one puppy we were interested in ended up having parvo and we couldn't get any information from the front desk about him before we found out about the parvo. The woman at the front desk seemed very overwhelmed and wasn't helpful at all. It smelt bad and the roof was caving in. It was disappointing to say the least. We ended up going somewhere else. Doesn't really live up to the Humane Society standard.

Micro tiny office, the smell of ammonia is overwhelming just in the office alone. Need someone to come in and do some major clean up outside. Nice, helpful lady. They may not have enough help, admire the people that do work there. They save a lot of animals from being euthanized. Went to get my dogs shots, $18. Great price but rabies shot is not included, had to go to the vet to get that one ($26/hr and a half wait, ugh!)

I’m here from Houston, I was looking for a playmate for my bulldog. I don’t know anything about these people or who they are. I simply asked if they had puppies, they were very VERY rude to me. Also as I walking around looking a dogs not one person asked me if they could help or anything. One lady was nice. I would not recommend that place.

We adopted our precious fur baby from them. She was VERY calm for a little puppy she didn't purkup that night and wouldn't eat, by the next morning I contacted out vet and took her in and she had parvo. Called the clinic to let them know because they had other puppies there too. The lady I talked to said yes that happens and hung up! Very rude I am very thankful we were able to rescue this little girl and that we were able to get her well but will never go back there.

I understand being at capacity. Found this beautiful kitten and they won't take it in. A little heart breaking. I hope they can do some adoption events and make room.I wanted to take it to a no kill shelter. Very beautiful almost like a blue grey an supper sweet.

Took my family here today to look for some kittens and I honestly don't even know where to begin.. The people are very friendly, and I'm sure they're incredibly overwhelmed and they seem to be doing the best that they can, but this place is absolutely disgusting. All but two kittens were coughing and had horrible looking eyes and the dog kennels were covered in filth and smelled awful. They are in desperate need of more volunteers to be able to keep up with everything. One of the areas the dogs were kept in, 'the barn' I believe they call it, is horribly dark and falling apart. Those poor dogs look like they're in a jail cell. It's depressing to say the least. As I said before, I'm sure that they are doing the best that they can with what they have. If you plan on visiting prepare yourself for the conditions. One of the nastiest spca's I have ever been to. Do them a favor and adopt if you can! Get those babies out of those conditions..Edit: They also had some sort of pug mix dog in the back of the cat house secluded from all of the other animals that looked to be having a seizure, or some sort of neurological disorder and in the hour that we spent there we did not see one person go back and check on it. Very disturbing.

The people here truly care for the animals and love their jobs. They do their best at finding really good homes for the animals in their care. They even have events on some weekends where you can get discounted shots (but not rabies shots), wormer and flea/tick meds. Plus let people volunteer for community service hours.

Let me tell you all about this place. First, there are really nice people working there. My GSP broke loose and ran away a couple weeks ago. My dog was found by a lady driving on 16th street. She took my dog there so she wouldnt get hurt. The ladies at the Humane Society took very good care of my dog the few hours they had her. Im thankful for the lady who found my dog and thankful for the ladies who took care of my dog. I took my dog in yesterday to get her nails trimmed. The ladies there are super great. I appreciate the Humane Society for what they do and for taking care of my dog when she got loose.

Adopted a kitten today. They are usually very friendly and they have a lot of animals to tend to. I edited my commentary to reflect something a bit more positive about this place. It's a blessing to have people that truly care for animals. I am looking forward to adopting from them again in the future.

Just wanted to acknowledge my boss, the director, Heather Silvia. I just wanted you to know that I see all the hard work, tears, sweat, blood and personal sacrifices you've made over the years to help get this shelter to where it is today. We're never gonna please everyone, and as much as we'd like to, we can't save every animal. For those who do work in rescue, I want to thank you all. It's a never ending job, and although it's a selfless act of love, that has no request for a 'Thank you', it's nice to be reminded sometimes, of how much one has done, and that's why I'm writing this. I've watched Heather choose to not go on vacation with her family because she was caring for elderly, sickly dogs that needed around the clock care, I watched her leave the shelter, long after the sun went down to ensure every single animal had toys to play with, I've seen her take in countless animals, even when we had absolutely no where to place them, she would take them into her home and love them. The list could go on and on, I just wanted to post this to let you know how much you inspire me to be a better person, I see all that you do, and although I don't always tell you, your one of the most caring people I've ever met, I'm so thankful to work with you. Keep doing all that you do.
