One of the best lunches I’ve ever had. I entered hungry and left full in every sense. It went beyond the bounds of nutrition, and right to the core of my being. The beautiful singing from the girls in the kitchen, “Alleluia, Alleluia” softened my heart, and I knew right then the food was being made with love. The hamburger steak was so delicious, juicy. Generous portion! Smothered in a flavorful gravy and caramelized onions, this amazing taste was bringing me to actual tears. The sweet tea was a perfect accompaniment to this dish, and it hit me that I drank the whole thing so quick. The song had switched to another with Jesus as the focus, and more beautiful singing from the kitchen. My full belly. My thirst quenched. My heart full of love in the moment, more than it could take. The tears poured out. Thank you to those who work here and allow the Lord to work through you. You have a very special place there, I’m so very thankful for today’s experience.

Came here with my girlfriend last weekend for breakfast because I've heard so many good things about the food. It definitely lives up to the hype and will now be our Saturday morning breakfast motorcycle ride destination.Parking: Plenty of parking out back and in the front.

The historic New Baden General Store has served homestyle comfort food to locals and travelers for generations. Hungry patrons can dine on breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the menu through out the week. Fridays is the award winning catfish buffet and Saturdays the grill is ready to cook up a mouth watering steak just the way you like. Hamburgers are always available and I recommend the onion rings on the side. Breakfast is a great way to start your day with a filling breakfast burrito or a stack of pancakes that overshadow the plates they are served on.

We come in at 8pm, 1 hr til closing. We were 3 adults 4 kids. There was approximately 20 fish pieces left and a good handful of fries left. We each got enough for barely a single plate and the remainder of the time, it was not refilled or anything.I asked what time they stopped making buffet food and was told 9:30? Yet there was zero food. We were charged full buffet price for each adult and kids were charged as adults as well. Over $100 for a plate we had to scrape together. I used to love this place not sure what happened. I definitely would not recommend coming towards the end of the day at all. Really wish things would have turned out better!

We were passing through on a Thursday night about 8 p.m. and stopped in for dinner. The staff was all friendly and the atmosphere was great, and the food was superb! Burgers, chicken fried steak sandwiches, fries and onion rings....nothing disappointed!!! The sweet tea was southern approved! We had a kiddo with us and the owner watched and when we were finished eating he fired up his cotton candy machine and brought her a cotton candy for dessert! Great place to stop if you are ever around this area. But come hungry- you will leave stuffed!!

Hole-in-the-wall outside, warm friendly service inside. Truly one of the best bacon cheeseburgers and steak fries! Excellent chicken fingers too. Topped off with a huge scoop of Blue Bell ice cream. If you are traveling on Hwy 79 definitely worth a stop.

HUGE burgers.Very cool old general store from 1906 (I think)People are friendly. Friday is all you can eat catfish. I'm sure there are other daily specials but I dont know what they are.

This place was a sweet little find on the way to Palestine! So glad we stopped! Best burger and onion rings I’ve had in awhile! My son thought it was such a cool building and the staff was super friendly! Definitely a good choice whether you’re from the area or just passing through!

We had dinner there and it was great! My husband had been there earlier this year and said it was, so I'm glad it hadn't changed. My husband had the hamburger steak and with the onions, it was on point!! I had the steak fingers (homemade), and they were delicious as well! I'm also picky about my chicken fried steak, so this place is definitely on my short list! Can't wait until the next time we're in town for another stop!!!

This place is an absolute must go to if you are anywhere near the general vicinity of New Baden. The food is fresh and delicious, and they have a daily buffet! Friday is the fish fry day and their award winning fried catfish is worthy of all the awards. The burgers are huge and spot on juicy, the hand battered onion rings are a must have. Can't wait to go back!!!

Great small town cafe in a large historic general store. Chicken fried steak on buffet was delicious as were the sides. Also has a full menu. This place is not fancy, it is just good old fashioned grub. Definately worth making a trip if close to the area.

Best all you can eat catfish on Friday nights. We always bring friends here when they come to visit us at Camp Creek. My grandson says the hamburgers are the best he has ever experienced. And the seasoned fries are good, too. If you don't like catfish, they always have chicken tenders, too.
