As I'm driving by on 104°F heat, I can't help but comment the outdoor kennels with dogs sitting out there enduring such inhumane conditions. I understand it's a small shelter, but there has to be other options other than covered shade for them; and with the facility being closed today, is there anyone checking on these rescues? Refilling water? Feeding them? I'd be happy to revise if proper authorities respond and explain the reasoning for their living conditions. Please don't take rescues here if you can prevent it. They seem to almost be better off in the wild.

I live in the rural area of Navasota and was told by police and shelter staff that Navasota Animal Shelter facility building and services was only good for Navasota residents who live in the Navasota (downtown) City Limits - NOT in Navasota rural areas. This is a government office, and all taxpayers pay for it, but all who pay taxes not allowed to use it?People dump sick, pregnant, or unwanted cats and dogs in cattle, coyote and Copperhead country where they CAN'T survive without food and water and only a few houses, in scorching heat or wet rainy days and nowhere to shelter or hide. But we have to watch this animal cruelty because the Navasota (city) shelter only helps those living in City Limits? Now who's cruel? Try living with Coyotes and wildlife, venomous snakes and Raptors after you, after being without food or water, sick or having newborns to nurse not producing milk being dried up from dehydration and starvation. The shelter should be opened to anyone in the Navasota area paying taxesfor it. But I have to take animals needing low-cost spayed or neutered or for adoption, or surrender to Texas A & M.How is this proper government oversight for Navasota residents paying taxes but getting No services????You might think it unfair of me to rate them since I haven't used their services. But I've tried, and seen plenty of animals and newborn kittens DIE because I live outside of city limits. There are few rescuers available to us, either no longer in business, too far to drive, full up having no shelters. But there's plenty rescuers getting called and no one comes. Or unreliable and a bad reputation having hoarding situations, starvation, undersized or improper crates or kennels. So we watch the abandoned, sick, starving cats and dogs, and newborns DIE, waiting for the buzzards to get their fill. The nice people who work there, empathetic as can be, can't and won't help me. After all, it's a government office.

Very nice people. They knew specifics about each dog from having them and caring for them. They deoerstely need food so I bring them a 50 bag of Sam's dog food ever so often. Just leave it outside the door if they are not open. Great food also I have used it for 20 plus years and my dogs live forever. Support your local NAC!

I had a Pit Bull/ Boxer mix that was starting to show signs of aggression. I have a 3 year old son, and a 4 year old daughter. I was no longer comfortable having the dog around my children.I work 6 days a week 12 hours a day. Needless to say, I was not able to make it during normal business hours. I loaded the dog in his large crate with a full bowl of food and water along with his favorite chew toys and dropped him out in front of the shelter. The next day my Wife calls me at work saying animal control and police officer just left My personal house questioning my wife about the dog. She told them that I was at work and to call me for further assistance. They called and asked if I worked at so and so address and if so to come out and speak with them. NOW they are at my place of Business. Long story short I got a citation from a very unprofessional and rude lady for dog abandonment. UNBELIEVABLE!! I’ll know what to do next time. Kick him out of your car in the middle of their City, drop him off out in the country somewhere and hope he survives. Heaven forbid you try and do the right thing these days. OUR SYSTEM IS INSANE PEOPLE. WAKE UP AMERICA!!

These guys are doing a great job trying to rehome pets. They need just a little help from a few people. If you don't want to take a pet home, go by and see if you can give the guys a little help. They need petters, walkers and people to play.

This place does not have a good reputation because it is a kill shelter. They will partner with other rescue programs so give a chance.

I have been trying to adopt a cat from this business for 2 weeks no one is ever there and no one ever returns my call. It's no wonder they have to destroy so many animals when they're not even there for their business hours that they state

I called and email my complaint about horses being abuse, and they didn't do anything about it. Government should close this place.

These guys don't get the credit for all they do , the city needs to step it up and stop acting like it's not an issue with the cats and dogs that are abandoned or abused
